[DoD:S]: Machinima showing new ingame graphic effects

(nUllSkillZ) #1

Hi,

not sure if I can post this here.
Feel free to delete this thread.

But I think this movie is a real cool machinima.
It shows some (as I understand correct) new ingame graphic features of the DoD:S engine.
The graphic features are among other things motion blur and depth of field.
Not sure if this also could be achieved with post processing.

Bit-tech did a large piece on it. The HL2 engine has always been able to do DOF (garrys mod etc). You can actually get some good DOF in ET (well all Q3 engine based games) using the TGA Hook… can also get good resmapling to give a very smooth motion blur. Or just cheat and use Vegas supersampling :stuck_out_tongue:

just more crap nobody needs or will use in multiplayer. DoD:S already required the best hardware. this is going to cripple the game to slideshow-like framerates. when will devs realize gameplay means more than graphics?

perfect example: http://www.warsow.net/ - free game, “cellshader” style graphics, and gameplay so good you’ll wish you could get a refund on Q4…

there is truly nothing less important to a multiplayer game than eye-candy. it should be the absolute last consideration in online game development.

tech demonstrations are for singleplayer games. that’s where all that DoD:S crap belongs. serious online gamers will not tolerate “performance-induced-death”.

it’s for movie and machinima making… no MP

Valve were also kind enough to impliment spline cameras within the game itself, and also the ability to rewind demos while creating the camera. Few bugs but still nice.
