Do Operatives always have back packs?

(LastGun) #1

i noticed in the new trailer that every operative that was shown they had some sort of back pack on them. (almost always blue for security) will this be permanent? couldnt it mess up some people’s look for their characters?

Some trailers show back packs, others do not. The one guy in the choir of guns trailer-- with the sort of Yakuza looking tattoos, the black full face mask, and the big revolver, didn’t seem to have one. And some of the guys in the screen shots don’t have them either.

I don’t know.

I answered this in another thread, but I didnt really explain the reason.

The backpacks are supposed to give you “instant deep context” of class. cough
What I mean by that is, say you are defending a plant objective and there are 4 enemies in front of you - Medic, Operative, Engie, Soldier. As a player you need to know who is what class instantly so that you can prioritise who you kill.

In this example a good player will kill the medic first, then the soldier. Prevents the soldier being revived, and prevents the soldier from planting. An average player might not be able to kill 2 players, so he might go for the most important one - Soldier.

At the moment they are blue and black backpacks - but I’m banking on them being different colours by the end of it ( a bit like the gloves ). Dont take my word for it though - you should send SD a PM, and let us know what youve found out

No backpack at all can be a very obvious class indicator though.

What baffles me the more is the idea that only operatives need to be concerned about their looks, as if there’s such a thing as an operative only costume.

(Auzner) #5

Hey, his lunch is in there! James Bond needs to eat. I forgot soldiers plant and not engineers!

(JeP) #6

What Humate said. Plus for what I’ve seen, not only operatives have backpacks, but I didn’t achieved to get the devs to detail how each class will be distinct from one another, except for icones when you aim each guy, but that sounds slower.

(tokamak) #7

Each class has a different back pack (or whatever they have hanging on their back).

(A.i) #8

I think, absence of a back pack for operative would be the greatest give away, then you only need to memorise the other 3 to differentiate between classes.

Also, why not just point a crosshair towards enemy - that would show the class…

(tokamak) #9

Because you can’t point your crosshair at multiple targets at once (though the friggin fluorescent jelly does help).

(A.i) #10

Well, I doubt, you would be able to see all enemies back packs at once either

(JeP) #11

Not all the time, no, but if it’s well done it could be of great help.

(A.i) #12

I agree, but I would prefere operatives without one

(JeP) #13

Well, yeah, it’s a good way of standing out.

(LyndonL) #14

Your operative is not going to be a shadow walker. This is not Assassin’s Creed just because it has parkour. Deal with it

(Jess Alon) #15

There’s only one sam fisher and you are not him sorry.

Edit: And even sam fisher carried a murse in conviction.

Now you’ve got me thinking of making Sam.

(A.i) #17

Stealth is not my reason though, its just a personal preference

(brbrbr) #18

you cannot carry/wear mission-critical equipment for Operatives duty WITHOUT backpack.
others classes can wear it straight on BDU, but operatives can’t. sneaky bastards.

(tokamak) #19

You’d be surprised.

It would be a void reason anyway. There’s no such thing as stealth (or subtlety for that matter) in this game.

(Schwarzeis) #20

Hoo… Can we expect Night-vision goggles for the Security? :stuck_out_tongue:
