Do i need a Voodoo card?

(Jahuu) #1

When I start the game under debian (2.4.xx)

I get this:

gd error (glide): Can’t find or access Banshee/V3 board

So do I need Voodoo/Banshee card in order to play or what??

:banghead: :banghead:

I would imaging unless you have some opengl wrappers you cant use a lower end card like that. THATS a VERY old card!!! That card is based on glide. You need an openGL card to play this game(Like a GEforce 4 or something)

Yeah yeah.

I personally have RADEON 9100 series card, but I am asking if I need a 3dfx (aka NVIDIA) voodoo family card.

By the way: Has anyone else ever gotten this error???

Sounds like a driver configuration issue to me. opengl is expect a voodoo card, but you have an ATI. Do you have the latest ATI drivers for your card ? Do any other opengl apps work ? If they do, try to find one which tells you what the renderer is.

my friend got the same prob with his old ati rage 128 graphics card the prob was the driver
if you got win xp it installing a default driver for this card
it looks ok but it isnt since i swapped the old driver with the referencedriver
it works now

sorry for my englisch

1.) Do you have the most recent update for your driver?

2.) Can you play other games that use your 3D graphics card?

3.) If you answered yes to the first question, are you sure you have the right drivers?

Is there Debian 2.4.xx? Or did you mean the Linux kernel 2.4.xx.

a. Have you installed the latest drivers from ATI’s site?

b. What version of X do you run? Run this command in an X terminal to find out: X -version

c. Have you set up OpenGL/GLX at all? Run this command in an X terminal, and tell us the output you get: glxinfo | grep vendor

d. Do any other OpenGL games run at all? You can try apt-get tuxracer and do a test run to verify.
