Dlc

(Jess Alon) #41

DLC I bet is mostly going to be outfits, people will bitch if there is weapon DLC unless they are just skins. Maps need to be free guys.

(BioSnark) #42

I said elsewhere what I thought about maps and weapons. That said, I fully expect there to be dlc maps and weapons.

(Crytiqal) #43

Hey, can’t we tag threads anymore?

(DarkangelUK) #44

No, thankfully.

(Humate) #45

Brother chen will not be pleased imo…

ps we need some brink emoticons

(wazups2x) #46

I’m completely fine with DLC as long as it’s just for aesthetics. Maps only split up the community and weapons create an unfair playing field.

I wish every company would copy the way Tripwire does their DLC. Their way we can still support them and get some nice skins but avoid splitting up the community or giving certain players advantages.

In case anyone doesn’t know who Tripwire is, they are the PC developers that made Killing Floor and are in the process of making Red Orchestra 2. They release a ton of free content for their games and fund it with the DLC skins.

(LyndonL) #47

+1 for the TripWire model. I always buy all the character packs since they have been quite loyal to the community in their patch updates.

(CVIChEK) #48

Hopefully, the DLCs will be only community maps made by pc gamers, shipped to console.
Like, Splash Damage chooses 5 bests community maps and makes them a free dlc every 2 months or so, if that is possible.

(LyndonL) #49

Polished of course

(Mustkunstn1k) #50

Wow… I am a PC gamer, but I am disappointed with all the kids who think they deserve free stuff for no reason. Why should the people behind Brink work for free? They want to eat too you know.

The only reason why DLC often doesn’t work is because with modding etc you can just mod the maps in. Which is probably the reason Brink will also be locked up. I just hope that they don’t think that they can compete with CoD and start asking 15$ for every 5 maps.

They could maybe ask money for the DLC on consoles and get a sponsor for the PC version. I don’t mind seeing a little ad on the loading screen. That’s what World in War did.

(DarkangelUK) #51

It’s called ‘supporting your game’, and happened for a lot longer than charging for it has. What changed over the years that it suddenly costs millions to produce additional maps? What part of the billions of revue earned with the likes of MW2 and BO couldn’t go towards the creation of additional maps, and they have to make a few million more? Answer… nothing… they did it because they could… and because people will pay.

Someone mentioned the Killing Floor method and I like that, small-fee cosmetic skin packs which helps pay for additional content, that way the community isn’t split. Stop hiding behind your whiney kid analogy and apply some thinking.

(Joe999) #52

yeah, as if ads got us anywhere with quake wars

(DarkangelUK) #53

Didn’t iD also say they’re more or less getting no-where with ingame ads with Quake Live, and that’s why they went to a subscription service?

(Joe999) #54

well, every gamer knew that ads were bad for games and that they wouldn’t give the required revenue. unfortunately gamemakers fell for what the ad companies are good: making ads. and by that i mean ads for themselves in which they mock how beneficial ingame advertising can be, while in fact it’s ruining business.

(Weeohhweeohh) #55

Agreed.
10.

(.TehTank.) #56

I dont think it should be for free but i definately think it shouldn’t be anywhere near as much as CoD’s DLC i think for about 5 new archetypes in 1 DLC should be £5 PSN money or 600MS points

(Apples) #57

Since when do we pay for maps?

For the skins they can do what they want, I’m not buying them… I would rather a “donate” button @ SD and will give small amounts everytime I can.

/thread…

As for the community made map released for free as a DLC, if you expect 5 polished map each two monthes I think you’ll be prolly disapointed

Peace

(crazyfoolish) #58

Yes i think that we should pay for maps but not $15 for four average maps (blops). I think $1 a map is reasonable.

I would definitely donate with frequency.

£1 for a new archetype would be brilliant. and they dont have to come in bundles that way you have the variety of an intem shop but no the overpricing and they could come in budles of 6 for £5 so you save money by buying more.
