DLC hype?

(Duke) #1

After reading numerous threads about the DLC saving the game and such; I’ve come here to ask one question…

Do you really believe 2 maps and some clothes will save this game from extinction? :stroggbanana:

(jazevec) #2

No.

The two new maps sound like they will be indoors, with twisted passages. Not much parkour.

The abilities sound like recycled ideas, but you have to pay for them now:

  • UAV like flyer drone from ET:QW
  • Napalm grenade for soldier will most likely be like napalm grenade from Quake 3 Fortress by Splash Damage. It will create a lasting flame which damages anything caught in the area, over time. Especially good for spawn camping and defense in general.
  • Healing stations for medic: because every class healing to full health by default isn’t good enough. And defense really needs a boost on most maps. Like medic’s crate (ET:QW) or engy’s supply station, except less interesting (more of the same, SS an crate also gave you ammo).

Pyro mine might actually be interesting, if it works like it sounds like (damage over time in the area). It could be better for protecting command posts.

(taodemon) #3

Unfortunately it will likely be too little too late.:frowning:

(NigelDocker) #4

No.

It will just prolong it for a few weeks, thewn it will go back down and keep on dropping in playerbase. Im no future teller. But there is no doubt in my mind that is whats gonna happen.
Just my opinion

To little ! to late ! to expensive ! to unbalanced ! to poor from the begining (8 maps) ! to strict (no custom crosshair ! no hud custom)

definitly to weak for the players expectations !
That’s gonna give few more weeks with players on servers and after that, the end for good !

This year to many FPS were just so crappy !
it’s like they all want to do the same crap !

  • bulletstorm >>> FAIL
  • Homefront >>> FAIL
  • Crysis 2 >>> FAIL
  • Operation flashpoint >>> FAIL
  • Duke Nukem >>>> EPIC MASTER FAIL OF THE VIDEO GAMES INDUSTRY !!
  • BRINK >>> Just after the Duke epic fail !

ans I’m sure I forget some other “AAA” titles futur of the FPS as they say !

Nope, simple as that.

I dont argue with 99% of the statement. I only wanted to say that you cant call a game(Homefront) that has 32 player games, 24 hours a day a fail.

In responese to the OP, no it wont save the game. Too little, too late as mentioned. If the game had not been in such a poor state at release, it may have different story.

(Kurushi) #8

To all those that don’t like the game now, then probably not, they’ll never be happy. Forever alone.jpg

To those that are still enjoying Brink, of course, it can only get better with the DLC and future patches. It’s not going to get fixed in one patch and people that are still enjoying the game will accept that.

It should be a good turning point though; Brink will shed its skin of current know it all whingers and we’ll all move on happily

(BomBaKlaK) #9

for me and for lot of people homefront is definitly a fail !
after if there is still some players that’s good for them ! at least even bad games can have more players online than brink !

To each his own. A fail to some is not to others and vice versa…

Think of it this way, It’s opinions, BRINK may be great for you but just like Homefront there are people who think this game called BRINK just plain suck, Brink is no different from any other game when it comes to people liking or not liking it… I personally like BRINK but the game messed up with a bad release due to bugs, glitches etc, with BRiNK trying to do something new, Splash Damage should have been very clinical in making sure there were no major game breaking bugs during release so people can concentrate on the different style of gameplay it has, But instead Brink got a lot people just hating the hell out of it and just being drama queens about it.

I think there are going to be loads of complaints when the DLC is launched since there seems to be some strange belief that the DLC will solve everyone’s issues with the game. This is just an unrealistic expectation of many.

Personally I don’t see it as a saving grace, just some extras to add the a game that’s got progressively better since release.

It doesn’t matter if the DLC handed out free money to every player, cured cancer, and created world peace, because:

I don’t think everyone sees the DLC as solving every issue with the game (I’m sure there are some that do though and agree with you that this is a problem). For me the number 1 issue was lag. Now every other fix and addition is icing on the cake. I’m not saying there aren’t other issues that deserve a lot of work (balancing body types, addressing weapon spread and recoil, getting out an SDK, etc. for example), but I anticipated ahead of time that within the class based shooter genre an ongoing balancing and tweaking act would be necessary (especially at launch). However, for well over a month now I can play full, lag free, games that are fun.

For me the DLC will finally give me a chance to test out the weapon balancing patch, a few new abilities some of which I’m really looking forward to, some tweaking of my builds with a few extra lvls/points, and a couple maps to break up the maps I already know so well (sorry I don’t care about clothes). Overall IMO it’s simply going to reinvigorate a game I already enjoy. I’m pretty sure it’s not going to bring masses of people back permanently, change the game as we know it, or fix every issue we might have. However, despite all that, I’m still looking forward to its release with great anticipation.

(neg0ne) #15

the DLC wont make a fail into a win. thats for shure. the dissapointed may come back to try out, but - i guess - wont stay.

but… if they bring some wise update and improvements with it, it may keep the ones that like the game and help to build a small but lasting ( at least for a while ) fanbase.

but as mentioned before: haters gonna hate. so no matter what improvements the patch and DLC brings, it will never be enough to please them.

Too true.

Like I’ve said in previous posts, the DLC is probably going to weed out a lot of the haters. The players waiting for the simple fixes will be back. Good times ahead

(Esso) #17

My guess: No

(Wildkarrde) #18

Fanboyerrific.

(Kurushi) #19

Playing them at their own game more like :>

(BiigDaddyDellta) #20

Its all about breaking up the monotony. And the patch man.
