DLC and the Value Realistically

(BiigDaddyDellta) #21

To me its already worth it but I would like to see some “story” expansion and some maps with some more happening durring the games. I think they should have made more use of the system they created I find myself hoping for objectives sometimes instead of just shooting off heads.

I think you make good points about the abilities and some more variation to spice things up would be fantastic and very welcome especially if it does mean someone else can have something different to you whilst still being the same class.

This one would be a lot of work but even something like 2 branchs per class, so for example you could have Attacking Medic and Defensive Medic and each type has seperate abilities but you can only proceed down one route per character, therefore adding more variation but still only having the 4 main classes…

(Wildkarrde) #23

8 more maps to go with 3rd campaign(I dont know outsiders get to brink)
5 more abilities 5 more weapons and loads of weapon upgrades, don’t think that’s to unjust to make up for what was released. After that SD can charge extra for DLC.

(Bloodbite) #24

well the free DLC will have 4 maps… an additional DLC pack after that with maps that comes with a price tag should come with a decent amount of content like a proper expansion, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with pricing it the way older expansions were priced either. A big expansion pack is worth more than the facade of chump change for 3 or 4 maps though.

(tokamak) #25

Really depends on the quality of the maps. There’s so much you can do with Brink’s core. If they make one legendary map for Brink then I’m already happy.

(Hurlbag) #26

Personally for the gameplay itself I feel the game was worth its price - however for all the technical issues it isn’t, but those will be resolved this week I hope.

As for DLC, I feel 8 maps is ridiculously small and having played 26 hours of Brink so far (with over 20+ bluescreens in those hours, sigh) it feels like a game worth £20, if a little less.

I feel at the very least, 4 more maps, a new game mode and perhaps a few more weapons (and balancing of them) would justify buying the game for £30.

Also I feel they need to add the graphical ‘upgrades’ to video options so the game can look as shiny as it did in the 2009 trailer. The game is pretty as it is, but it’s pretty far off from what it was before.

I really think that the idea of an attacking or defending and only choosing from one set limits variation. I think that there should be a lot of unique PAIRS of abilities. So if you choose a particular ability that has it’s opposite you can’t choose the other one. Basically because if you had both you would be overpowered. So this would foster variation in character creation. Instead of being restricted to two paths you get to make SEVERAL either/or choices.

An example would be having increase accuracy in knocked down fire OR being able to get up from getting knocked down faster. Having both would be a little ridiculous and make you too responsive in that situation of being knocked down.

Right got ya, so key word to make BRINK even better is UNIQUE especially when it comes to abilities, so every one could effectively been slightly different within a 16 player game obviously.
So there’s been issues at launch, but we haven’t even gotten to the end of the month yet. So I’m still waiting and I don’t want to make any “official” complaints yet.

Keep in mind this thread addresses console gamers not PC gamers who want a SDK.

What I would like to know from my community is how much content would make Brink be worth 60 dollars to you? If you knew that Splash Damage was going to be releasing DLC for free on a monthly basis until the end of the year with a significant amount of content each time.

How many maps would Brink require for you to feel you’ve gotten what you paid for?

I don’t care about all the other stuff people are arguing about. I just want numbers on maps.

Because I honestly feel like once my gameplay is mostly lag free with full teams. This DLC is really icing on the cake. Because Brink has been worth the money for me. I love it.

So tell me… how much free DLC would have to drop in addition to the fixed lag for you to feel happy about what you spent?

I’m curious about people’s answers. And I’m wondering how many people can just get over the “bad launch” in order to enjoy the game. This forum’s seen too much negativity.
Brink is already worth $60 for me. (Sacrilege!) I got what I wanted with Brink and have been craving, its not a bad game. I have already played at least 60 or more hours of Brink! I got every single achievement, and I only do that with games I really really enjoy (Bioshock, CODMW, Gears of War, and Brink) We are getting FREE DLC for Brink which is the icing on the cake for me. I have previously experienced game breaking lag in some of my favorite games already (Gears of War and 2 and even Halo 3) so am not hitting the panic button when a game has lag. COD doesn’t have lag because it has zero animations and has card-board cutouts for backgrounds and scenery.

The most disappointing game for me is still Gears of War 2, but mostly in the multiplayer (Horde and Campaign are really good). Brink is more fun for me than Gears of War 2. I just don’t like COD multiplayer at all. Not fun.

So, I really like the story in Brink, the customization, and the team aspect that is paramount to achieving victory. And now when I play other games like Halo, I wish I could have SMART movement. You can’t get over a chest-high barrel in those games? I love winning a match with random people and watching the cinematic for the victory and my character is in the cinematic! How cool is that? I understand how the game industry has changed not for the better imo, (The Call of Duty Effect**) but can’t quite fathom why there’s so many people who dislike brink (even when they say its fun!) save for it being very challenging for a lone wolf and in general.

**Call of Duty Effect: when it has a negative influence on other games mainly due to its financial popularity, casual gamer, and Madden football business model. (Industry pressure to make every game like COD.) Example: when Call of Duty mechanics are added to other games like adding Stopping Power and Ranks or Gold Guns to Gears of War.

It is refreshing to be able to play Brink. I hope more developers make games like Brink. That try to carve their own niche.

One of the selling points of the game IS that you can play it your way. So you should have more freedom to tweak your character to perform in the way you find is best for you. If you find that you get knocked down by nades or slide tackles a lot. An ability that gets you on your feet faster is going to be a no brainer for you. In addition they should add an ability that people can take instead of combat intuition that is equally effective that way every single player doesn’t have ESP at a distance with cloaked players. Like maybe a combat intuition alternative could be called “paranoid” and it warns you when someone is directly behind you within a certain distance. Whether they are using a silencer or not. You could even add one into the mix that helps you detect people hiding just outside the sides of your vision and you can only pick one of those three perks. That way a whole team has to work together and not everyone is operating on the same wavelength but operating based on preferences by how they play the game. That takes some balancing but it can be done.

Basically the more abilities there are in the mix that force people to play their character differently. The less likely people will be to get bored. In my opinion. Guns will always be guns. But the abilities are the game changers. And release a good map every once and a while and Brink is set really.

(Sanch3z) #31

SDK with source code would be a valuable addition

(Bakercompany) #32

If they could do this, and pull from user made contents best stuff, you could have killer future DLC.

Sometimes players come up with amazing stuff.

I would gladly pay $$$ for a community map pack(s) on X360 if the SDK were released. Do it SD

(Jess Alon) #34

Did you even read the original post at all?

(Jess Alon) #35

I didn’t make this thread to discuss an SDK though. It’s about the value of Brink as a package with DLC in regards to what people who have bought the game feel should have been packaged.

Some people think there should have been more maps.

It’s a console as the game comes thread. Not an SDK thread. Sorry.

(Sanch3z) #36

I read maybe the first sentence and got bored.

(Jess Alon) #37

Yeah bored. You obviously didn’t understand the direction or spirit of the thread. It’s not about an SDK. It’s about people sharing their opinions about how much content would make them feel like they got their money’s worth with Brink. Developers could end up reading people posting their constructive opinions and some decent free DLC could make it’s way to the console community.

I’ve already seen 17 or more threads about SDK. So your unoriginal post is boring.

(xzen) #38

Back on topic, I’m happy with the game as it is now and I’m hoping for 2-4 new maps in the free DLC, anything else would be a nice extra.

(Jess Alon) #39

So would you say the 2-4 maps would be a nice bonus or would make it just right for your money and the lag issue?

(donmichelangelo) #40

I can feel initial intention of the gameplay and I begin to like it but as earlier mentioned here in this thread, Brink is still full of bugs, ok maybe not full but there are still some (also annoying) bugs present that no one can deny.

ETQW for example was shipped with 12 maps when it was released and due the fail start of Brink I would rather like to see, beside the free DLC another free (small) DLC, for my sake only for customers who purchased the game within the first 3 weeks as well as pre-orderes.

To answer the thread openers question:
The announced DLC is the least that I do await from SD and depending on the quality of the maps and goodies I will then be able to decide if the game “feels” complete and worth the bucks that I spent for, with the free DLC.

Alternatively to another small DLC release the SDK AND the linux dedicated binaries!
