Disabling rocket trails/plasma glow in DOOM 3 deathmatch

When using the commands g_skipParticles 1, r_skipParticles 1, and g_projectileLights 0, I’m still getting the smoke in my rockets and the blue glow effect on my plasma cells.

At first, I tried to disable them in multiplayer and none of them worked. I decided that this was just Splash Damage’s philosophy from Wolf ET – standardize the visual content as much as possible, to level the playing field. That is OK by me.

But then, I couldn’t even get the commands to work in single player.

So, are these the correct commands to put in my autoexec.cfg? I would prefer the rocket trails/plasma effect to be disabled in deathmatch, but I can also totally relate with why the option to disable them in mp might be blocked.

What is the final verdict? Can it be done? If so, how?

well i’ve torn into the cvars pretty thoroughly and havn’t noticed anything like you ask, but then again i wasn’t looking for that specifically. does ui_showgun hide those effects (i can’t recall)? anyway no gun is a bit unbearable in this game i think.

Already tried Planet DOOM. No help there yet (after about 12+ hours).

By the way, there are a few avi videos flying around the net of deathmatch and at least one of them features a player who has no smoke trail OR plasma glow.

Apparently then, it can be done. But I have no idea how…

ANY ideas?

Put com_allowConsole 1 in your autoexec.

Alas, we only helped with the levels, we didn’t make the game. I did briefly mug Digibob about it and just off the top of his head he wondered if it’s a particle-emitting surface on the model itself. Anyhow, we don’t know, sorry : {
