DirtyCups.gg Closes Its Doors

Don’t panic peeps. We may not have an Anti-Cheat just yet and lost the competitive side of the game… But we have Redeye now to counter an already shitty Phantom. We’re getting somewhere.

@Mercy We all make decisions we regret in life. I pray that Lumfish comes to regret his and that I never regret mine. My current plan is to stick with it and continue to simply play the game to enjoy the game. I never had an itch to become top in competitive or anything like that, but I am passionate about Dirty Bomb. Over the last 5 months of playing it I have had a lot of fun and I hope to continue to enjoy my time in game and on the forums.

Numbers will rise and numbers will fall. My consolation is that the lobby I am in is usually full and most often has no hackers. I play with my friends and we enjoy each others company in teamspeak and in a match. That is what a game is to me. It is about the community, not as much the game itself. As long as I continue to enjoy the game I will continue to wholeheartedly support it.

Not blindly, no. I am aware there are problems with the existing AC(Which does exist, opposed to the denial of several people who say it doesn’t), yet both Nexon AND Splash Damage have stated a solution will be here as soon as they can manage it.

I am aware there are balance problem, but if the recent patches say anything Splash Damage is willing to listen. Sometimes you just need to tug on their ear a bit from multiple places.

I am also aware that Nexon supports this community. Beyond providing support via prize money, skins and credits for streamers and youtubers to give away(which albeit is free advertising, it helps both the playerbase and the users in the end) they also have dedicated password protected servers free to use for anybody to practice anytime they want. This is with additional private options for matches as confirmed by Splash Damage to come in the future.

So while yes, problems exist, they are being worked on. Although I am unable to personally see the fruits of those efforts until they are released, I will continue to enjoy Dirty Bomb because it is still a fun GAME when I play it.

@Merciless Dirty Cups has announced they will continue to host tournaments, bi-weekly, under new management.

This will be my last post on this topic unless something is either directed at me or I need to step in as a moderator(which I doubt I will need to do).

So tired of hearing this. The game is available on Steam, for anyone that wants to play it, and the cash shop is open.

As far as we are all concerned, the game IS released, the beta tag is just a convenient excuse for shoddy work.

This is why I’m glad I haven’t spent a penny on DB, seen this happen too many times now to want to waste money on a blatant cash grab. And if this game isn’t a blatant cash grab, then both Nexon and Splash Damage are just plain incompetent.

Could almost feel sorry for Sniff if it wasn’t for the fact he seemed so happy and proud to have spent so much money on the game.

its pretty common now for company’s to throw on a beta tag so they can blame that if it goes to shit and when people report issues nothing gets fixed. battlefield 3/4/hardline comes to mind for this kind of thing

(immenseWalnut) #45

Sadly, too true. I wonder how many times this has to happen before players wise up to it. It is that devotion to a game, and willingness to throw money at it in the belief that they are actually helping the development of the game that is causing publishers to take this quick cash grab approach with games.

For me, I wont be spending any cash on F2P games unless the essential components are in place BEFORE the open beta begins, and issues are tackled quickly and effectively. I refuse to pay for promises/hope, or spend money on content that can later be changed at any time. Made that mistake too many times now to willingly do it again.

DIRTYCUPS.GG CLOSES ITS DOORS? Why CAPS? I absolutely DONT CARE.

These news are sad to hear, but I hope that the hope of new tournaments isn’t completely gone.

I’ve always had that competitive soul and I found it super amazing that whole game Dirty Bomb supports competitive gameplay and competitive side - what comes about clans - is quite alive. Meanwhile I enjoy playing public matches alone or with friends, still I don’t want to throw the hope away and I still would like to enter with my clan to the tournament in the future, if we just get chance to do so.

And what comes about cheaters, they are in every online multiplayer game.
Having a game without cheaters is only a dream, but sadly we have to face the reality: A game without cheaters doesn’t exist.
So far I have met only few cheaters during these few months I’ve been playing the game and I wouldn’t go crazy because of that. Don’t get me wrong, I understand how big issue cheaters are and how they ruin fun from everyone. I also would like to see something done for cheaters and before cheater problem is a bit “smaller”, I think I will stay at public side before I go to play more in competitive matches.

However I’m not expecting that everything will happen immediately in a second.
At last livestream where Redeye was also announced, people asked several times will new anti-cheat happen and how soon. It was nice to hear that they are working on it, but everybody who think a bit rationally should also understand that “working on it” will take some time. Going mad about it will not help, but at the same time I understand the frustration. This game has a lot potential, but having bigger amount of cheaters in competitive matches will not help the community to stay.

Still after all when the new anti-cheat system gets released, it’s still good to keep in mind that the game will not become completely clean from cheaters. When new anti-cheat system gets released, newest cheating programs will get created, trying to bypass new AC.
Having smaller amount of cheaters would be nice of course and I hope that’s the result when new AC comes out, but everybody should keep in mind that fight against cheaters will never end.

I can’t help but feel that this is yet another nail in Dirty Bomb’s coffin.

Another victim of the absent anti-cheat… wp gee gee ez!

But we have mercs!

I saw Dirtycups from Youtube channel and that’s why I started playing the game couple of weeks ago.
It was competitive, it was teamwork and after I heard there were more merc roles available than those mostly used in Dirtycups I was excited.

It’s really disheartening to hear from someone like lumfish that he’s giving up the game because devs aren’t hearing them since the way his team played was one the reasons I installed Dirty Bomb.
Unfortunate events but I still keeping support something that has lot of potential.

[quote=“Ardez;62066”]@singular How was DirtyCups the only opportunity? It was just the first. It was run primarily by players who hadn’t run anything of it’s scale before. They learned some lessons from the experience I hope.

Progress can be made when the game is ready for competitive. They started too early. Give the game time to mature, then try and make a space for itself. It isn’t even released yet.

Actually evaczone was the first to fall. Considering all of evaczone admins were valued VIPs over at splash damage and all but me have now quit playing dirtybomb is saying something. We invested 2 years of alpha play and competitions for literally nothing. I predicted this happening when they first popped up on the scene just after I canceled the first ever open beta cup (Twice in a row btw)

I predict another set of admins will come, run two or three cups. Be let down again and “regrettably” leave their roles in the community.

(misspo) #52

Like i said lately: Will overwatch be a better game than DB? I don’t think so but competitivly OF COURSE and that why people gonna leave this game.

And it’s a UE3 game, it’s not roquet science to use demorecorder and release binaries server.
Community ask for it since almost Day 1. And you don’t even answere to the question…
At least, do like EA/DICE with battlefield. Do some exclusivity.

(NuclearSharkhead) #53

(Yes) #54

You also forgot that’s a pretty poor excuse.

It’s hardly an excuse. Am I not allowed to forget things once in a while? Chill.

I agree that anti-cheat needs to be potent or the ingame comp MM scene won’t take off for real. And DC.gg closing is an angry red mark on the game that SHOULD get the devs’ attention and get the game the changes it so desperately needs.

I like how people are trying to jump in and say this is because phantom was nerfed lol. Nice try but this started from Phantom being introduced in the 1st place, it’s a lot more enjoyable now Phantom isn’t getting cheap kills on the whole server. You had a lot of people quitting because of it.

The main issue here is free to play and in turn a lot of hackers. It single handily ruins games so quickly. They need to start adding a price tag to games like this. Even if it’s just £5 so hackers can’t just keep coming back again and again. Unless they pay a shit ton to do so. They will at least be losing something.

(watsyurdeal) #58

I find it funny people quitting because of Phantom, because holy fuck if Phantom’s bad you guys haven’t seen the rest yet, and not only that but there’s more mercs possibly that the devs have not even mentioned.

It’s not the introduction of the merc, but how they nerfed him. They changed aspects that affect EVERYONE just to deal with one class, same thing with aimpunch. Stuff like tthat changes how people play more than a single merc, all Phantom does is force people stop going off on their own and not working together. Which is why you saw him smash on pubs but only be so so in a serious environment.

They are listening to the wrong people in my eyes, and Dirty Cups closing down is a way of them saying they aren’t going to put up with it.

Splash needs to decide who their market is, and give it everything they got to make sure that market is happy.

The casual crowd who’d stop playing because a new merc is released is surely not it, at least imo.

(Pogo) #59

I really don’t think phantom is what made oen decide to close DirtyCups. I mean, if it’s anything, the terrible anti-cheat is probably the #1 problem with Dirty Bomb at the moment when it comes to competitive play.

Very sad, unexpected. RIP in Dirty pepperonis
