DirtyCups.gg Closes Its Doors

(Ceres) #1

Since there isn’t a topic here and this is the easiest way for SD to see the mess they have created.

"It is with great regret that I must announce the closure of DirtyCups’ doors. Unfortunately, the staff team no longer has the resources or time to support Dirty Bomb, especially in its current state. I’d like to thank all participants, viewers, dedicated supporters and of course our lovely past & present staff members. It was a joy creating a bundle of exciting and memorable moments with everyone. With that said, I would like to make it clear that this certainly isn’t a permanent termination. I am quite optimistic that there is still a chance for this title to succeed as an esport. However, there are clear changes that need to be made which the developers & publishers are fully aware of. My hope is that they execute these changes and we can revitalize the competitive scene. In spirit of keeping our announcements short & sweet, I’ll end it here. If anyone has any questions/concerns feel free to comment or contact me privately.

To clarify, the Summer Open Leagues are now suspended until further notice. Should they fail to resume within the next 30 days, they will be terminated in their entirety.

All the best,
Oen"

Looks like the cheaters have won. :frowning:
RIP Dirty Bomb

(chickenNwaffles) #3

Cheating is the #1 problem in this game: it’s just too easy for people to cheat, and too hard to catch cheaters.

Flakey community. If you are going to be a fan of a niche genre, you should be willing to bear through the little issues. It’s not like there are any other Enemy Territory style games coming out soon.

(Kroad) #6

“little issues”

such as literally no anticheat so anyone can cheat as long as they’re not too blatant and never be banned

They said they are working on it. People just got mad that they haven’t released it yet in half-baked form.

(Kl3ppy) #8

They are working on it since 2 years and now they realised that the AC from Nexon is ****. There have been hackers in the closed beta and they banned them manually because AC was just in listening mode. Obviously they didnt notice that the AC never detected a cheater, so it is SD/Nexon fault on not having a prober AC. I would say the open beta came too early and the missing AC now kills the game.

(BioSnark) #9

It’s perfectly understandable to hold off on competition if contestants aren’t on or don’t feel they’re competing on a level field. Hope to watch dirtycups again when or if they return in the future.

(tangoliber) #10

They had Xingcode from before Nexon, and they just recently have been working on a different anti-cheat, as the situation was worst than we thought.

The game is not “killed” yet, but it seems that some people in the competitive community are trying to hurt it as much as possible.

(tangoliber) #11

Holding off on competition is fine…but cancelling something that they were already in the middle of is flakey. Making dramatic resignation posts and blaming SD is childish. See the same thing with so many games… people don’t think the devs work fast enough for their liking so they have to make their “one last nail in the coffin” posts and tell the world how they are quitting or retiring.

(Kl3ppy) #12

I remember a statement that SD was impressed by the AC of Nexon. They thought it is super but actually, it is ****.

Not yet, but ppl get frustrated pretty fast when so many hackers are around.

(potty200) #13

I told my team they wouldn’t last. The support is awful for competitive and I was fed up of being let down.

I am considering doing a little something but I cannot guarantee anything will go through right now because of numerous things; Cheaters, servers, support, lack of other people to help.

It is a shame to see them go, their first set of cups were cool but this latest one was a bit of a mess.

(titan) #14

Whoever picks up the pieces pls bring back bracket style tournaments on a weekly / bi-weekly basis
The league system that was implemented was so boring… 1 match a week against a (most likely) unbalanced opponent, no casts, no hype, nothing on the line till months from now, this league was killing competitive hype as much as the cheaters

(Domipheus) #15

Sagan on Roids edit: We will be bringing back bi-weekly tournaments soon with new management. Stay tuned for more information

So, there seems to be a little more to this than the usual gripes about the state of the game. Admin ragequit? Fallout? What’s the real deal here.

Regardless, pottys points are what needs sorting. Yes it’s beta, yes things change. But if it’s been touted as a competitive game from the off it needs changes to actually support that aim. We know the anti-cheat is coming - the biggest issue (of a longer list) just now. It’s a complex thing, lets hope it’s weeks and not months.

(NoSoup4U) #16

This ^

Either make a definite decision, and say you quit your tournament, or temporarily suspend the tournament while no proper anti-cheat is in place.
This whole melodramatic bull**** is just sad.

(Loffy) #17

Take the pain.

(Protekt1) #18

I don’t want to talk poorly of the recently deceased, but I wasn’t a fan. Still sad to see them give up on a game that still isn’t even out of beta.

(BioSnark) #19

^ reread the statement.

(Protekt1) #20

The people that left gave up. I’m being intentionally vague with who I am referring to, although that wasn’t probably clear. But whatever, I’ve always felt like if this game actually developed a real competitive community it would need much more than dirtycups anyway.

People joke about “when is overwatch”, but the reality is that game was and is going to eclipse dirty bomb in a matter of time regardless of what dirtycups does, however poorly they do it (imo).
