Dirtybomb map resemblance.

I’ve been looking into the maps to see if they’re places in modern London today and after looking through the selections I chose Underground.

Apparently its based on the Canary Wharf Tube Station which is maintained by a company named Tubelines, Tubelines is an asset management company responsible for maintenance, renewal and upgrade of the infrastructure, including tracks and trains…? WAIT!

So they manage trains? There are at least 2 maps I can recall as of this moment while writing this with trains, Overground and Trainyard. According to the Dirtybomb maps website they say Overground is a long abandoned area with lots of train tracks, why would Tubelines abandon this place before the Dirty Bomb events occurred? And thus I delved deeper.

According to the lore the CDA bought the area to make use of the space for 2 pylons, pylons have a hidden use that we’re unaware of but I’m assuming its power according to the description of the map Overground " two precious pylons that help to power a modern marvel of technology". But we see these things in Dome which must mean they’re powering something that needs that power?

In Dome we know that you have to deliver datacores to a Pylon in order to get through the first stage, albeit I don’t know whats in them we know its needed but where did we get them from? wait a second we’ve seen them before, there were 2 previously but due to balance reasons we only need one now but where did we see them? Wait what about Trainyard?

Back in Trainyard there’s an armored train with 2 special datacores that JACKAL wants to steal and hires mercs to put them into a copter that is seen in Dome! And that train belonged to some one, it was armored and had data, the tacks were blown and weren’t maintained, OH MY GOD!

TUBELINE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EVENTS BETWEEN THE CDA AND JACKAL!!! This must mean Half life 3 is confirmed to release in London 2020 during a Dirtybomb event and the Illuminati is real!

In all seriousness though I feel we’re missing something here…

(inscrutableShow) #2

Well, the pylons power the containment shield.

The possibility that the datacores that you steal in Trainyard are the same ones you plant in Dome is very high when you think about it.

If somebody wants to give me a bunch of money, I’d be willing to have a go at suing a real life company over something that hasn’t happened in a video game yet.

(sgtCrookyGrin) #3

Interesting, maybe there’s more to the maps than we think?

What lore is there that we’re staring at every match but forget to study it? I’m going to delve deeper in the weekend, what about you?

I’m jokin about the help but it’ll be interesting to see what the CDA, JACKAL, and Tubelines true role in this is.

(Terminal_6) #4

You can go further if you take Dockyard into account. I played during its beta test but I can’t remember the events exactly. I’m pretty sure the last objective has to do with planting C4 on something in the crashed airship, which is confirmed to be the one that Jackal retrieved from Dome.

Basically Jackal has to cover their tracks with that mishap. Kind of guts that story thread, though.

Also I’m just theorizing that all of the execution maps contribute to deactivating the containment shield at Dome.

@Terminal_6

Holy shit terminal I think we’re onto something! I’m kidding maybe there’s more to these 2 year old maps than it seems? We need to check the small details in the maps to understand what’s going on, especially the new ones coming out.

If you want more vehicles that are on rails (thus possibly railway related), the containers you blow up at the 2nd stage of Terminal are clearly brought there by rails, they can be seen on the floor. For what I recall the place is an old trainstation actually but thats a shady memory which I’m not entirely sure of.

(Nibbles02) #7

Yep, Terminal takes place in the London Victoria Train Station.

https://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/dirtybomb.gamepedia.com/b/bb/ConceptArt_Terminal.jpg

The data cores in Dome are “doorknockers”, which is a fun nickname for EMP charges, anti-firewall computer viruses, or otherwise explosive devices that break through a set of armor or defenses, in this case the containment shield.

You can also look at maps and their descriptions here: dirtybomb.nexon.net/game/maps

Huh, you learn something new everyday from people who’ve practiced in such a field
(please don’t doorknock me :P)

And thanks for the info, we now know that it’s in a Train Station which must mean Tubelines has something they did that was recorded there…

Indeed, on the official website, the description of the map says “Two rail containers full of documents. A train station, sealed off behind a fortified wall, a last rail link to the world outside the contaminated zone. Why are these hard copy-crammed containers so important? As evidence? Of what? Anyway, they need destroying. Or protecting. Your mission orders may vary.”

If you look into it, Jackal’s main goal in the missions is to prevent the CDA from cleaning up the radiation and restoring order because it would put all the mercs out of jobs, although from the graffiti and the lack of clean-up effort, it seems like the CDA seized control of London under the guise of a clean-up/decontamination effort but has made very little effort to actually clean up London. That leads me to believe that they’re just capitalizing on the situation for free government funds.

In case you were wondering, there’s still remnants of maps prior to the current build of DB hidden in the game files:

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\DirtyBomb\ShooterGame\Localization\INT\dialogue

I was poking through the INT folder a while ago while editing the badge text (yes, you can do that!), and inside the “dialogue” folder, there’s some juicy lore tidbits. I have them organized by map.

Underground
“There’s something fishy going on in the bowels of Canary Wharf station. Never mind what. You’ve been hired to clean it up. Permanently.”

“There’s a secret archive hidden in the lower levels of Canary Wharf station containing the bodies from the original Dirty Bomb attack. We need to know what happened. Someone’s trying to stop us by destroying the evidence. You have to stop them.”

"A lot of people died in the Dirty Bomb attacks. Some of their bodies are kept here, a morgue in the lower levels of this Underground station, surrounded by preservative gas. Someone’s trying to destroy the bodies. Our client says we stop them. We’re near the Thames here, it takes constant pumping to keep this place un-flooded.

Bridge
“Gentlemen, Ladies, it’s a beautiful day, and once again our mission is a Data Extraction, with shooting. Objective is the GH Research Centre. There’s Data in them servers. Two Data cores in particular. Our Client wants them. Someone else will kill to keep them where they are. You know the drill.”

"Our client is developing an improved anti-radiation drug in the old GH Medical building. Corrupt oligarchs want it all for themselves, and have sent a squad of Mercs to steal the only drug samples.

“OK, chaps. We have a rival team of mercs inbound to London Bridge. They want to steal intel. Our client really doesn’t want that to happen. The enemy is going to activate an Extraction Vehicle, an ““EV””, escort it to the GH Research Centre, blow it open and nick two Data Cores. Stop them at all costs. You’re cleared to use anything up to and including drone strikes. And so are they, so watch yourselves.”

Trainyard
"Someone’s moving an Armoured Train full of…stuff. Our client has hired us to destroy it. The only way to break the Armoured Train open is to drive it at full speed off an unfinished bridge. Trouble is the rail tracks need to be switched, AND there’s a blocker carriage in the way. "

"After years of decontamination effort, cleanup and filtering the CDA have removed the very worst of the dirty radioactive waste and are moving it for safe reprocessing in a secure carriage by rail. Our client’s just told us that a team of Mercs are trying to crash the train off an unfinished bridge, break open the secure carriage and recontaminate London with the radioactive waste.

Terminal
"Our client tells us a gang of thieves have stolen two whole containers’ worth of people’s personal stuff from the contaminated zone: treasured possessions, pre-biometric passports, birth certificates, that sort of thing. They’re going to use the passports to forge fake identities, drain bank accounts, it’s identity theft on a colossal scale. You HAVE to stop them.

"Our Client has two containers full of archived evidence they need to extract by rail. Their enemy’s hired a team of Mercs to destroy the containers.

"Our client has recovered some important assets, they’re moving them out of the Hot Zone by rail through Waterloo station in two big rail Containers. Someone else wants those assets to stay lost.

Chapel
"Our Client has some data that badly needs deleting. It’s held on air-gapped servers so they can’t virus it. Which is where we come in.

Etc.
“Do not bring anything out of the contaminated zone. If anyone asks you to bring items out of the contaminated zone, report them to the police at once.”

“You are in a restricted area. Leave immediately. Looters will be shot on sight.”

“London lies empty, irradiated. The only ones still venturing into the Exclusion Zone are teams of Mercs fighting over valuable data left behind.”

“London, 2020: a radioactive Dirty Bomb has left the inner city uninhabitable, but groups of mercenaries still venture into the contaminated zone to extract vital data - or prevent its theft.”

I’m starting to get an ominous something Fischy is going on here and it’s going to be very fun!

I think it’s worth mentioning that the CDA logo has been graffitied over on the right side to appear like a skull made with the “branches” making up the eyes, nose, and mouth. The words “CDA KILLERS” are also sprayed underneath that.

Based on this and the old dialogue I posted, perhaps the CDA is performing inhumane experiments and they were, in fact, responsible for the Dirty Bomb attacks to cash in on government funding and use the radiation as an excuse to research tech that couldn’t otherwise be funded normally.

We know the Jackals (probably the attacker’s ‘clients’) are using the chaos to extract valuable corporate information and sell it to the highest bidder, but I have a hunch that they’ve discovered some of the CDA’s grisly secrets/illegal tech and are attempting to whistleblow or destroy it all (hence blowing up whatever’s in the airship in Dockyard and the events of Chapel, Terminal, and Trainyard). Or perhaps take it for themselves.

Just my headcanon though.

AKA Trump 2020, JK but holy shit nice find mate. I’m betting SD has an art team designing the maps and also creating the story, there must be a lot of lore hidden in the maps that the players don’t pay attention to.

(Aazhyd) #14

Canary Wharf metro station.

(BlackboltLW) #15

Also Victoria Train Station. (Terminal Map)

It’s wider than in the game lmao

(sgtCrookyGrin) #16

These maps sure are accurate to the game :stuck_out_tongue:

Found this on Bridge. 570 hours in this game and I haven’t seen it before.

It says “Ignore Rumours and don’t spread them yourself,” “To date NO ONE has developed special powers and no animals are growing to gigantic size.” This is my new favorite poster.

We need a merc with some kind of super power that’s explained away by this.

The CDA is not as they seem…

Have you seen how smart AND strong Rhino is?

In all honesty, it is probably Proxy. She is using the radiation to treat that cancer.
