At least DX11. would love for dx12. this game NEEDS to be optimized better, especially because its about as competitive as CS:GO… Is this going to happen any time soon?
Dirty Bombs needs a better DX version..
I doubt it’ll happen period. Since it’s not a simple “upgrade to DX11/12” thing, as the devs have commented on before I believe.
Yea it’s not an easy transition unfortunately, but it begsthe question why they didn’t at least do DX 10, I can’t imagine still having anything before Vista.
I know its not easy, but it would be well worth it… Making the game on dx9 in the first place was careless and ignorant, and a stupid move
The game needs more content, many mechanics changed/fixed and devs caring about it instead being focused on other projects and not a DX version.
While I agree I don’t think you realize how much work it’d be.
Like literally a good couple months or more just to convert over, and that’s 2 months without content or fixes to the current version of the game.
While I agree DX 9 was a terrible decision, we’re pretty much stuck with it for now. Hopefully when Unreal 4 comes out they’ll make their next game on that.
yes, while making the game onto a new dx version would halt updates, i think that if they wait, that will be more content that came out in the updates to switch over…
Essentially, the amount of effort it’d take to upgrade the DX version would result in some people finding improved performance, some finding it worse (through the inevitable bugs and incompatibilities etc.) and then there would be a bunch who just don’t notice a difference and are annoyed that they aren’t getting new content.
I think it’s safe to say we’re stuck with UE4 and DX9 until Dirty Bomb 2. Honestly, I’m not that concerned - the game has had only minor issues since closed beta on my end.
Let them finish off the game first otherwise this beta period will last forever xD
Also its a f2p game so having DX9 makes sense, since there is a higher chance of getting more players in the game who don’t have the want/need/money to upgrade there laptops/pcs or are stuck with lower end hardware.
DX11 would shut alot of people out and the last thing we need is to negate the already considerably low player base.
DX12 however might be a good path if it is true that it will be backwards compatible with really old hardware, at least if everything they have claimed isn’t marketing spiel… which i assume it is since I think DX12 is and always will be a Windows 10 exclusive… alot of people are happy with windows xp, others like me are still running Windows 7 for very good reasons.
You have not a slightest idea of game developing and game engines, do you?
DX10 is the bastard child of the DX world and has barely been supported by most games. You either get 9 or you get 11 or you get both. Now, with 12 out and due to the massive changes that comes with it in regards to performance, I believe it will become the new baseline standard (which 9 still is). But it will still be a year or two before we all start reaping the benefits of dx12 since games have to be developed from the ground up with DX12 in mind. And even then DX9 might still be supported for a little while longer due to hardware/compatibility issues of a lot of systems still in circulation and DX12 requiring Win10. Free updates from MS helps adoption though which is part of why DX10 never caught on (nobody wanted to pay to upgrade to Vista) but there are going to still be a lot of win7 and win8 users out there for years.
DX9 is fine, game looks amazing. I don’t want it to look any different. It supports low end PC’s and does not affect graphics. (Unreal engine 3=best engine imo)
yess add dx11 or 12 support but leave dx9 as default maybe? maybe ability to change in ini files, or auto detect the best dx version for your hardware?
UE3 supports DX9 natively but DX11 after a certain build, not sure which license they have, but it’s not a simple changover at all
It would be nice but doubtful it would be worth the effort. I’ve noticed the game approaches/uses up to 4Gb of memory so a 64 bit client would’ve also been nice
DX11 is such a crappy resource hog that many turn it off right away after looking at all the pretty features it has for about 2 minutes in games that support DX11 features. I have a pretty high end system and pretty much universally always use DX9 over DX11 if it’s an option.
Ironically CS:GO is directx 9 :P[/quote]
CS:GO is dx9 becuse its old, and thats ok. because when the game was made dx9 was newer. also, csgo runs on source engine, which is also pretty old, so on my system i can run csgo and around 500 or 600 fps on my 90hz monitor, on 1080p… but with the SAME system, and with DB at lowest settings i only get ~50 fps… dont get me wrong, the game is pretty. but i think aesthetics are the least of worries for a game as competitive and fast paced as dirty bomb…

Which I find hilarious because tons and tons of people for the first year + after CS:GO hit complained about how awful CS:GO ran. But these were people with Compaq Presario computers from 2002 who were used to getting 90fps in CS 1.6 after setting the graphics to their lowest.
