Dirty Bomb wins

(Aseph) #1

I’ve played the following counter terrorism games (or similar) recently:

Black Ops II
Battlefield 3
Counter Strike: Global Offensive
Arctic Combat
Alliance of Valiant Arms
Soldier Front 2
Combat Arms
Blackshot

Not a single one of these games even comes close to what I’ve seen so far of Dirty Bomb. If you released this game as is today, I believe a huge number of the players playing all of those games would easily switch over. I’m not saying you should release it today, I just wanted to give some positive feedback.

Hopefully we can see an open beta release soon as I’m sure you won’t be scaring anyone away with the state it is in now. Dirty Bomb is a very impressive game so far and right now the people need a good game like this.

Congrats on an amazing game Splash Damage! :stroggtapir:

I’ve wanted to start a similar thread today.

Yesterday I’ve played BF3 and MW3 for the first time, and what can I say? I was extremely underwhelmed, especially with BF3. It was so boring and somehow chaotic, nothing had a real direction and people and objectives where scattered all over the place. And the frickin area-alarm went on all the time and nearly drove me insane. All in all, BF3 = very nice graphics, but everything aside from that = crap. I’m so incredibly glad I haven’t bought this ty game. Oh, and did I allready mentioned how much the vehicles annoyed me? Because, they fg annoyed me as hell.

I can’t really judge MW3, cause the frickin game wouldn’t connect to the frickin servers(we’ve tried it for over 1hr), so I had to play the horde mode. And I’ve seen a lot of gameplay vids from MW’s MP previously and had allready no interest in it, and now, since I’ve seen it first hand, I have no doubt my decision was absolutely right. The aiming was way better than in BF3 though.

After I’ve played those two games I’ve really learned to value SD and their goal to produce a real shooter, with clear objectives and very tight and action packed flashpoints, far more than before. And in hindsight to BF3 and MW3 the controls from DB are a dream and I’ll never complain about them, even though I still wish they’d be, at least a tiny bit, more responsive(“A”+"D"keys/strafe especially), just a tiny bit:)

Now I know for certain, that I’d never have to consider about buying me a game from the COD, or BF series; absolutely not my cup of tea. But I could imagine, on the other hand, that many people who are really enjoying those games wouldn’t like DB that much either(even though I hope they would, of course).

Unconstructive positive feedback isn’t really more useful than unconstructive negative feedback.

(Anti) #6

Speak for yourself, we quite like it!

Glad you folks are enjoying it but we have a lot more to do yet to get it to where we want it to be.

(tokamak) #7

Ha, I’m sure you rather would learn about at what points DB can have an edge over these shooters.

(RasteRayzeR) #8

For sure we highlights all the negative aspects of the game, making us forget sometimes that it has come a long road already. I think it is great time we get a new update.

Yes, this post is a bit vague, I just wanted the devs to know they were on the right track. I will have to post more specific feedback when I can sort out the details I appreciate most in the game.

Off the top of my head right now I think the best qualities are:

  • The movement is a good fast pace, I don’t have to stop to shoot and I’m not penalized too bad for firing from the hip or jumping in a fight.
  • The time to kill an enemy is well balanced, I’m able to return fire if I get shot but I’m not invincible either.
  • The interface is super clean, I know it’s not the final version but even at alpha it’s quite well done.
  • The options for setting controls is not limiting so I can set the controls to my comfort level (toggles, hit sounds, fov etc).
  • The classes are pretty well balanced, I haven’t found one to be the ultimate class yet.
  • The graphics are amazing, the gun models, textures, characters etc.
  • The maps are well thought out for good firefights and alternate routes so people aren’t all bunched up in one choke point.

I’m sure there’s more, I will make sure to keep posting my feedback both positive and negative. I too want this game to be the best it can be.

 I’m surprised you declared this as “best qualities”, as these points are rather work in progress.

I think that’s what everybody in here wants it to be.

I think a post like this was needed, since most of the recent threads have been so negative, they always seem to go into this negative spiral. Pretty depressing to read tbh.

Having said that I don’t think DB is better then those other titles, each strives for different things. For instance BF3 is heavy on the vehicle gameplay, on some maps / gamemodes if you don’t have a vehicle you’re in trouble. As for CoD games they haven’t innovated much, they always look pretty good, have quick TTK and even a complete noob has a chance to kill a good player because of this (and the spawn system).

Anyway nice job SD and I’m still looking forward to the next patches.

(Violator) #12

Agreed. There is a lot of negativity, but in software dev customers never tell you when something is working, but can’t wait to tell you when its not

(pulley) #13

SD are really making a nice game. I really hope it will become a great success and will last for a couple of years!

(Kl3ppy) #14

I think its normal. If something is fine, you dont hear anything from them, but as soon as it is not working as it should, the screaming starts

Most of the negative feedback could be based on the fact, that DB runs already pretty well and is actually playable. Many people forget, that DB is an alpha version. When I play it, I always forget, that it is an alpha because it runs much better than I thought.
So far, SD did a good job, but it is now the time, to make an excellent job. I have high hopes, so dont let me down SD Guys

(BomBaKlaK) #15

Really ? Heu … did we play the same game ? maps = Major issue to me

For the rest yes it’s an alpha.

(nexgen) #16

DB still being alpha and getting the type of game play we have currently seems just fine. I have owned BF3 for a few months now and is… blaa. Hard for me to stick around for just one map. Takes forever to get to spots in the maps for a good gunfight. The close quarter combat fights dont even compare to DB. Feel like I have to use iron sights way more than needed just to get a accurate shot, BF3 shoot from the hip is crap. Cant even customize your cross hair to the little dot we all like.

So I am all for SD doing what “they” need to do and filter all this feedback to get it right.

(Dormamu) #17

Overall DB is on the right road, not their yet but not too far away. All the bumps and falls make this road a great one. I’m glad to be here.
Trust you instincts, listen to your community and deliver the great game we all expect from you. It took you more then 10 years to be here, and this is just the first step in your great journey ahead.

(warbie) #18

It is great being able to run around at a quick pace and be able to fire accurately from the hip! This alone gives DB the edge over those other games for me.

(ImageOmega) #19

Agreed. Fast movement plus firing from the hip accurately is a must. Now, about that reload while sprinting…

(INF3RN0) #20

I think we all agree on the fact that yes… DB is better than all those games, but… it could be even better :D! Most games churn out a sequel every year, but I’d really like to find enjoyment in DB for years and years.
