DIRTY BOMB UPDATE: Version 22519 - August 8th 2013

(MrFunkyFunk) #261

The past few weeks we were already told that we were a niche and that the most active testers on DB (game and/or forums) were not a representative sample of modern fps players expectations.
I feel like only obvious feedback backed by ECHO (holy grail of DB) is taken into consideration. I guess those stats are certainly more readable than my lame engrish feedback posts.

I had hoped for meaningful & varied objectives (main & side) to emphasize each class but instead we get classless objs.
It’s like a quickfix and it certainly makes public play a decent & fun tdm spam fest with a correct gun gameplay and pretty graphics but I really can’t see myself playing it more than once in a while, I’m not the target of the model it’s moving towards.

And yes, if it wasn’t for those frontpage quotes I would have waited to know more about DB before buying my way in.

This is true. Instant buy when I saw this:

Ahah, unlike to DB, I saw it coming for Brink (Bethesda, game for consoles/Tested on gamepad).
Yeah, thats why I joined
With brink I was really looking forward, but the closer the release came, the more I was sure, it will be a fail and I dont spend money on it. I wasnt that wrong

I have the same feeling, dont worry
The actual gameplay in objective mode isnt pleasing, I hope we get a more balanced and well-thought update to test and improve the classless gameplay. If it’s just not working, we still can go back to class based gameplay

(ailmanki) #263

I don’t see the problem with classless and objectives.

It was like that with Objectives you have to grab and deliver, everyone can grab em. That worked, and already with that mechanic, it becomes obvious that some players will never pickup an objective. While others will lemming to it.

Current problem is more, that every class has the same speed doing stuff.
edit: Sure its crap for competitive at the moment.

And lasty I think TDM should be removed from the game. If any add another mode where you have todo something else then just fragging.
CTF? King of the Hill, just not TDM - please.

edit: Not going into fps problems, LOL.

(Evil-Doer) #264

Not trying to be rude, but If you don’t like TDM, don’t play it. A lot of us been asking for a TDM or shoot around map for a long time, to run around in more and play with characters without having objectives.

(rookie1) #265

There is probably a way to get the best of both world …just give some time
less spamming ,nades to certain char, objectives restriction to some char ,weapons balance, longer cooldown for certain abilities,New maps strategy…

(Bangtastic) #266

actually the gameplay itself and the dev profiles convinced me to believe in SD and throw my money at them  catch phrases? a classic.

when it gets to obj, the way how its played is NOT different. Again: rush with engineer only on bomb, or rush mixed classes on bomb lol. Still the same, but more fun

This is the way it will work best; When game is released without agnostic playstyle. YOU will always be the one switching class in order to get the job done; 80 per cent of players simply dont give one.

And in comp? There will be assault, medic, engineer only to get through the map, and that should be better? Play one class only for obj A and change class for objective B? You do that because the game forces you to do. There is not much tactics or serious comp business involved because only one specific char on the planet can plant the bomb.

IT IS Better than before, and performancewise it is still playable, framerate also stable! More stable than Bf3 xD

There can be still side objectives for certain classes/group of chars; breach door or walls, build ladder or bridge, repair holes in roof to be safe from above, hack elevator, automatic doors, lights in certain areas/rooms, burn some bushes, cut down trees in order to open another way! whatsoever.

What about having some meta objective and micro objective stuff? not big deal just more variety for the small stuff and simple yet.

What about having neutral enemies (robots, drones) to farm or being attacked by to make the small objectives more tricky? (WOW even more crazy stuff xD could at least be considered for some pub mode?) Or you can even hack to activate some drones to attack enemies for 15 seconds before they explode.

Btw there should be more radiation elements; like ppl sick and medic heals; and so on… where is THE DIRTY BOMB?
This is too true. DB is faster paced than all prev games in terms of constant engagements, which is why objs are so difficult to complete. These changes indeed solve that problem for most of the biggest past hold-up objs on maps, but the question is if it is the best way? All that happens now is objs are actually completed because someone can pickup where the other guy started, however the chaos is still there. People say it’s more TDM now than before, but I don’t see that. It’s about the same, and those who did objs before still are the only ones doing objs now. The TDM is from the lack of true spawn waves and the map layouts.

We need to test some extreme proficiency stuff asap also. If proficiencies exist already, they are not significant enough to be worth being there.

Things I think we need to try also;

1.True spawn waves and timers
2.More non-exposed objs
3.More forward spawns for offense and defense (that actually cause disadvantage *cough not waterloo)
4.Contestable map flow side-objs
yeah, +1 to all of that.

i find shooter game gets really boring/frustrating/rage inducing when it boils down to just one big cauldron of crossfire from all directions at once with an unprotected objective area in the middle. london bridge, waterloo, whitechapel lift area and last objective at camden seem like the best examples. it’s kinda hard to get any real teamplay going when you’re constantly in “survival mode” and crossing the street is likely to get you killed or down to 10% health.

i haven’t read all the threads, so i’ll just ask: has anyone actually argued in favour of no-sprint while reloading?

(Rex) #268

How isn’t it different if everyone can do the job now? And engineer only rush doesn’t make sense anymore.

Every player will play what is most fun for him. So even if you don’t play objective you can still help your team if you do frags.

By all respect Tast1c, but that’s nonsense what you just said. Without havening played one of the previous SD games you seriosuly say “There is not much tactics or serious comp business involved”? You should really watch some comp matches and judge again.
There is a lot more tactic and difficulty involved than some may think. If not everyone can do the objective each push turns into an escort mission somehow and if your objective players die you almost ruined your push. So you always have to care about your team mates, that’s real teamplay!

No.

(BomBaKlaK) #269

that’s the problem ! nobody care about obj …

When I saw the maps timeline during loading screen that was a big hurt … the game look almost ready to go in the new direction, maps are for SD already finished (Beta) and that’s just some few small maps totally claustrophobic. With maybe only few meters between objectives or capturable spawn points, in this case medics are just useless you have autoregen or you just respawn there is no real meaning in all of this, only meatgrind spamfest.

DB look like a bad copy of TF2 with some wobbly gameplay, and meaningless objectives …
I still follow the game to know the end of the process and still play a bit cause I follow the alpha since a long time.
but in the end I don’t know what to think about

Yer maps really need some love, I though it would be difficult to change the maps, but having seen the TDM maps - hm maybe it ain’t so hard’

Yet I think these are the first “real” maps from DB. And I think SD really needs some finished maps, to be able to argue about the potential of the art; to be able to tune fps, and probably to attract more players. Since a blockout video wouldn’t be so appealing. And also internally to find out which work process works best.

(BomBaKlaK) #271

Little Maps and Obj design are just BAD !
Look at the comments about maps, every thread talking about it …

(rookie1) #272

Whatever will be the outcome ,dont forget that the First few rounds (for the majority) of a new player will be decisive if he like or not …so its better be good

(Rex) #273

Welcome to pub! Was this ever different?

(BomBaKlaK) #274

“Pub” is a good excuse for everything …

(ailmanki) #275

How you mean that?

(Sonbot) #276

Grenade launcher is a little useless. Its almost impossible to hit anything with it and its splash is very small. Also, if you manage to hit them it still takes two grenades to kill them.

(prophett) #277

Is big splash and a lot of spam kills a good thing?

I think it is fine the way it is. Reload time should increase with splash, if it goes that route.

(Nail) #278

think of it as a suppression weapon

(Volcano) #279

chip damage if anything if your not direct hitting your still doing some damage for someone else to clean up

(Brinkman) #280
Once the launcher is updated, you’ll need to run the game via ‘Launch Game’ before being able to connect to a server.
hope this gets fixed soon.
