Dirty Bomb stand-alone version?

(henki000) #1

Hello!

I just wanted to ask, if there is stand-alone version coming?

I dont like steam. Actually this game was the only reason I came back to steam. I haven’t bought a single game from there, everything I own there is free/gift. I think it isn’t fair that they force you to watch their ads, even if you are a paying customer. I cant add friends in steam because limited account. It isn’t very social enviroment for social game like Dirty Bomb. In theory, it makes Dirty Bomb p2w, because you cant connect up with other people inside steam. Unless you donate steam with 5 bucks buyng something I would play only if my life is threatened. Then there is also performance issue, when not using steam it uses 45,2 MB ram and ~0,2% CPU and requires some valuable space in disk. I don’t want even know how much it uses resources in heavy load or what else hidden operations it does. On steam sales it’s almost unusable because lack of server capacity. Even if there is not anything special going on, I have to suffer from glitchy videos or unprioritized connection issues because of unprioritized updating system. So, I need a new software to keep network traffic in balance and my ram/cpu/hdd gets filled again. Why would I buy anything if there is no certain that steam works? I actually tried to buy something and it didn’t accept my credit card. When I just want to play Dirty Bomb, sometimes it takes half hour to boot up. It’s just too long time to wait if you just want to casually jump to server and leave. But worst of all, steam is a machine to design people to buy stuff they dont need. I said, I almost were able to buy something from steam, but I’m glad it didn’t happen. I have sworn oath to not spend money to waste of not existing beta games where you dont have any rights and might just get banned because of false positive detections or devs deciding to make updates that increaces much needed performance. What if someone steals your steam account? What if digital game markets are monopolized by steam, causing prizes to go up and preventing new games to appear? Dirty Bomb should have own client that is free of all the steam crap we don’t need. I know many of you will disagree or don’t see the deeper level of problem, I dont care. Someday steam just stop working or betray your trust. Then you can only remember what did I said.

tl;dr
So, all I’m asking is a steam free version of dirty bomb and other possible payment methods.

Regards
Henki

yeah maybe they can start shelling out some Client mode only skin or something

(henki000) #3

@GatoCommodore

No reason to do that.

Can we also have a version that runs on MS-DOS? Because i really dont like Windows, uses too many resources, you never know what its really doing etc.

Steam has update scheduling, bandwidth capping, hardly uses any resources if your computer was manufactured this side of the 90’s and honestly is pretty unobtrusive. A Steam-free version of Dirty bomb would make for a ton of development, reworking the friend and party system entirely for a start. And for what? The ~three guys that are in full on tinfoil hat mode and wont use the biggest gaming platform on the planet? Yeah no.

You only have to spend $5 i believe to get all the features of steam. With the summer sale on now you could get a whole lot of game for that. Or even just add $10 to your steam wallet and buy a bunch of DB cases.
And its hardly Steam/Dirty Bombs fault if you lack the willpower to not buy stuff. Do you have a habit of walking into a supermarket and just picking random stuff up off the shelves?

If you hate steam, what do you think of EA Origin? Or UPlay?

(n-x) #5

I think this was the most far fetched argument about DB being p2w I have ever read.

(neverplayseriou) #6

People can still add you if you haven’t spend 5 euro’s on steam so uh yea how is that p2w…?

(henki000) #7

@DrRageQuit

Steam has update scheduling, its just not automatic or synchronized to other software. I want updates asap, but then I want to watch youtube videos while updating. I fear I have to choose between those 2 activitys on/off if used in full network speed. Yes it uses resources to my 2009 built PC. I cant buy anything on steam, unless I walk to local supermarket and buy paysafecard. It’s not very spontaneous anymore. I tought thats normal procedure when visiting supermarket? You pick random stuff to your basket and pay them. I dont have great family or long distances to reach civilization. So, I dont plan stuff, I do them spontaneous. Its just a point of idea, how to lure more cutomers. That same idea steam is using at the cost of dirty bomb users. Why would I buy stuff to dirty bomb, when there is other stuff to buy that aren’t related and adversited non-stop?

I hate EA and UPlay too. They have totally destroyed game markets. “Buy this and this crap, which was made by child labour in china but we say its totally made in homeland and pay our taxes”.

@n-x

Dirty Bomb is p2w, because the air you breath is cleaner in different places. You just have to move or invest expensive air filtering/humidity equipment to gain better aim.

@neverplayseriou

I have heard it’s impossible to add me trought Dirty Bomb, so you are forced to use steam
search engine and if there is a lot same name people it makes things too difficult. What if there is full team of limited accounts that cant add each other and cannot create party?

(DrRageQuit) #8

So what you’re saying is you want steam to automatically play nice and load balance with whatever web browser or other application you’re using, and of course have that other software ALSO play nice with steam? Are you high? Just cap your max download rate through steam while you’re watching youtube, then uncap when you’re done. Or install a third party bandwidth manager and use that.

I’m stuck here on a <2mbps connection. If i can manage it, so can you. And as for the payment issue, that is unfortunate, but its steam taking steps to cover both themselves and the people that use their service. If Paysafe is the only option available in whatever country you live in, theres obviously some issue with either exchange rates or card fraud.

Steam is not going away, i would be highly surprised, and honestly a little irritated if SD dropped everything to make extensive modifications to the game in order to cater for such a tiny minority.

(neverplayseriou) #9

@henki000 then that team has to get a job for a single day so they can pay 5 euro’s…

Robbery. Or prostitution, whatever suits your fancy.

Yep. I dont like that neither. But I use Steam for home streaming. Maybe check those settings out for those invasive adds :

I know you’re trying to be funny and sarcastic, but Steam is exactly trying to get rid of Windows for that with SteamOS. And that’s the real irony of it.

(kopyright) #18

when not using steam it uses 45,2 MB ram and ~0,2% CPU

I sure hope you are not using Firefox or Chrome to browse the web.

If one worries about 45 MB RAM and 0,2% CPU usage? Probably telnet.
