Dirty Bomb Closed Alpha Progress Update - August 6th 2013

(Seanza) #61

Not sure what to say. This game has just changed its path altogether and is heading down a route that I don’t feel entirely comfortable with, nor a route that I particularly like the sound of.

Regardless, I’ll do my bit as an alpha tester and provide as much feedback and my opinion on this (hopefully my opinion will change).

What happened to DB being the class-based objective shooter we’ve been missing all these years? Damn…

(LeeStyle) #62

Will there be beta access for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in time for the holiday season?

(scre4m.) #63

true story; alpha versions are for testing. Dont believe though that the dev team will dump a months’ work at this stage of alpha. I doubt they have the time and money to do this.

I wouldnt give too much on negative feedback before the patch is actually released.

(Seanza) #64

This game is PC only. Be fed.

(Smooth) #65

Very droll…

We’re developing PC only game :stroggbanana:

I think you mis-read, he just meant “in the other thread”.

Or at least… that’s the plan. As the alpha has progressed so far we’ve felt that we’ve not really been delivering on the character front, and we’ve not always infused them with the gameplay personality and individuality they deserve.

Could you see this back in the survey?

I remember that you had to answer a character specific question. I always filled in the option that I couldn’t fill in the question. I mean, all those character names, I saw them for the first time in the survey and still don’t know who is who and which characters there are ( I still don’t know :frowning: ).

You guys have a lot to do if you want it to be character based game. From my casual perspective I both like and dislike it. I remember a lot of cools things that happened with class based games, that will not happen in this game, ex. push out for the engie so the other team couldn’t finish an objective etc etc.

In LoL I really liked the different characters, they where unique and created different gameplay. However the characters in DB are not unique enough in my opinion, so a lot have to be done.

But I can completely understand it from a business perspective. It’s easier to sell unique characters and without the classes you can create tons and tons of different characters. However I hope you won’t make the characters to OP in the beginning, because I got the feeling that LoL does this, so a lot of people buy the character when it’s released and after a few weeks they will nerf it again.

Hmm!

Interesting indeed. But I will certainly miss those intense c4 objectives where you try to protect or gib objective classes. I also have a feeling that this will make engineers redundant unless they are much quicker than other classes at repairing or defusing.

Hope the patch will come before the draft cup on thursday so we get to try it out and break it properly. :stroggbanana:

I got into the alpha to help you guys test the game, I thought the final release would be on next gen consoles. May I have a refund? I get that you’re developing and we are testing on a PC because that makes sense. but I thought we would be playing on the sticks. My stick game is fierce, I was 2010 all madden champ on gamebattles. i

I understand that it’s necessary to attract the players to buy characters, it’s necessary for the profitability of the game, but I don’t like the concept classless objectives.

For me, this will destroy a part of the teamplay, cover the engineer so that it achieve an objective is one of the most important element of the success of ET. And for the ennemy team, focus the correct ennemy is also one thing which is really fun.
The game is not fast/skilled as ET/ETQW, now if it don’t have the objectives system of ET/ETQW, I don’t see where it can attract me. We lose the essence of the licence and it will be hard to differiate it from others FPS (especially others F2P).

From my gamer perspective, I find that the system of mercs is not the best system to make profits on a F2P. I prefer the classic system of weapons and perks to buy.

The great thing with characters however is that you know what they’ll carry and can anticipate what kind of weapons and tools they have. The problem I feel is that they really don’t stand out at all compared to like Team Fortress 2 where you inmeadiatly know "oh, that’s a heavy, oh, that’s a sniper etc). I feel like DB is in a tough spot where art style they really can’t deviate too much unless they’re going to do a massive revamp on all the assets which is bonkers but at the same time they’re going with a character based system where the characters don’t stand out too much. For me personally I reconize a medic only with the icon above their head, not how they look like because too me during the fast and frantic gameplay everyone looks kinda the same to me.

I think removing frag-nades is not a good idea, seriously: nades provides several personal fight-tactics. suppress opponents indoor, pin-point kill @ objs, spawnwave kill with good timing etc. If frags are going to be char-dependent, that curtainly prevent gamers from choosing some characters.
As well as only-close range characters. A player should be able to change his deffensive/offensive style during a game! even during a fight. Object is taken - we all chase him and point-aim his head, weapons should allow that.We are always up for changes, but there should o lot of thinking here and testing.

(prophett) #75

It is also going to be more difficult to damage the EV now. Hopefully the arty and airstrike are much more effective now.

(shaftz0r) #76

i just really dont understand the point of basically removing classes. what’s the point of the game now? so now if i see a soldier moving to a barrier to plant c4, i wont care and just frag away as if nothing is amiss? the entire point of classes ups the skill curve. focus fire the eng and gib when he’s trying to build/defuse ect. you’re taking away a MASSIVE part of the game by removing specific classes

(Nail) #77

still going to have grenade launcher and rpg

Wow… Interesting direction and unlike some I understand it is just something you are trying in Alpha. I also see that what you have defined in the OP isn’t the perfect balance but is a preliminary test. The system as defined right now could make some “characters” not used at all.
To simplify, it looks like you are kind of turning this patch into BF Squad Rush without nades and squad spawning. This isn’t necessarily bad as I thought Squad Rush with its smaller, focused infantry maps was the best mode for BC2 even thought I thought they could have balanced some things better for that mode. I definitely think this could make DB more attractive to the current gen of COD/BF infantry players at the expense of alienating your core players.
The main reason I have played your games thus far is the class based system that you guys have championed. Escorting the engie/soldier to a constructable/destructible objective was something I really liked but I’m willing to give the update a go. Rather than see you guys leave this classes behind I’d rather see you guys move away from escort objectives and brainstorm on new objectives (rather than destroy, build, hack, and escort) which are fun and novel.

(BomBaKlaK) #79

Yep like said before now that’s a BF3 squad rush game …
SD touch is gone …

(fer0x) #80

Strange patch.
