A new blog post has been added:

Dirty Bomb becomes Extraction

We’re excited to reveal that Splash Damage is partnering with Nexon America to operate our free-to-play multiplayer shooter Extraction in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Known as Dirty Bomb during our limited Closed Alpha, Extraction is set in London, now abandoned after a mysterious radiological attack. Groups of mercenaries now fight to extract (ah ha!) the secrets left behind. Read on to find out about our new partnership with Nexon, what’s changing (hint: nothing much), and Extraction’s debut at PAX this month.

Fingers crossed this will be a positive change in direction!

That’s very interesting about the name. I prefer Dirty Bomb over Extraction though. =p

I like Nexon. Vindictus was the very first free-to-play game that truly impressed me.

I really look forward to Extraction. It looks freakin awesome! I love the s*** out of Brink guys. I really do. It’s the best multiplayer shooter game I’ve ever played. My favorite modes are always team objectives though so I think that makes sense.

Seems to me most FPS players are a bunch of tards that only care about their kills. I can’t tell you how crazy it drives me when spectating a player or watching a youtube video where the player pulls up the scoreboard every 2 seconds. I stop watching immediately. It’s ridiculous.

Anyways, really look forward to this! =) And I’m super freakin excited you guys did the multiplayer for Batman Origins!!!

Extraction sounds much better and gives a more robust argument to the game. Fingers crossed here too for your Nexon partnership.

I like the direction Splash Damage is going.Company has become very positive over the last 12months .Good Job.

Yes Yes Yes Yes!!!
I agree Extraction sounds better and I can see the game is really starting to take shape. As A long time RTCW & Enemy territory player(I’m over 50 …yes you guys will still be playing at my age too so shut up…LOL) this will bring back the great memories of great games that were truly paramount. In todays world where players have become twitchie button pushers and don’t have to think about what they are doing and just run around and kill everyone. This game will be a great experience in teamwork and comradery. Yes Brink had it’s problems(Concept and gameplay ideas where great) but I know Paul and the gang at Splash Damage do learn from there mistakes and they will come out on top with this one… I can feel it.
If any company can put a real competetive truly team based game together these folks can.
Way to go guys can’t wait to see you on the battlefield…I mean looking forward to hearing the call of duty…I mean…See you at the EXTRACTION point!!!

Cheers!

Pfiew… reading " Extraction will not be pay 2 win " was the better part in that news…

There’s a point to that, in Counterstrike you get money from kills so taking out the top person a few rounds in a row will keep them in check and stop them from buying a Scar or AWP and decimating your team. In CoD there are killstreak bonuses which can be combo’d so shutting down that bonus is very important. Even when there is no physical reward from a kill streak, it pays to deliver a confidence hit that is a shotgun-to-the-face/sniper-to-the-head as often as possible to high scoring players so they don’t get that confidence high that tends to turn them into invincible killing machines with perfect reflexes. In gungame modes where you level up guns by getting kills, targeting the top person and taking a level away can be invaluable in securing a win.

Good players tend to bring their team up as well, so if someone is always in the thick of things then consider them an officer and take them out first. It applies to all games as well; in non-FPS games like League of Legends a killstreak will give bonus gold on a kill so target them and make sure a good player gets the shutdown reward. Just remember to always shut down the kill streak players, always target the top players, and if you have to repeatedly hit the scoreboard to see that then so be it.

lol That is such a load of crap Ceci. Please. The only reason people spam scoreboards is to see how well they are doing. I can’t believe you just tried to pass that off as some legitimate excuse.

Extraction is a good name, I just think Dirty Bomb sounds more fun. =p

Edit: I apologize for my tone. I feel the way I do, but I don’t hate you or anything.

I’m gone for like 2 minutes and THIS happens? o_O

This can be a great thing, actually.
Let’s hope Nexon does both Extraction and Splash Damage the justice ATVI never did!

The new extraction website has poor mobile capability.

Min Kim, Nexon America’s CEO:
Extraction’s refreshing blend of action and team-oriented strategy
provides the depth PC shooter fans have been looking for.

Using words like refreshing and looking (for)?

I liked the old name and Nexon… eww.

(Raide) #14

Pretty much this.

Yes, Nexon is big. But they’re also infamous for their terrible service and failure to fight hacks.
And Dirty Bomb is SO much catchier and stands out way more than “Extraction”.

Extraction just sounds and looks so generic and bland.

I was super-hyped for this game, but now, I don’t know. Still reserving judgment for the final product, but I don’t know. I just feel… disappointed now.

You’ve never played CoD then, or CS. :stuck_out_tongue: Ever play World at War? That was one of the more egregious examples of combo wins, but it kept up through Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops, etc. You get three kills, you get a bonus, which gives you more kills, which gives you more kills, which gives you more kills, which wins the game. Turrets and gunships did get patched so they no longer count towards kill streak bonuses, but you should still shut them down. It’s a good habit to get into for most games and can have a large effect on the game. In Battlefield, taking out the top player deprives the other team of a disproportionate amount of skill, same in Combat Arms, Brink, etc. The only time it doesn’t matter is in non-team games with instant respawn, then it’s checking kills. Which as they are the only measure of skill in such games makes sense.

And you know it. :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT: I say this not as someone making excuses for CoD players (appalling game outside of the ninja builds), but as an old Quake player who spams scoreboards in most games. In LoL I want to know who’s getting ahead, in CoD I want to shutdown killstreaks, in CS I want to stop people getting AWPs and dakdaks, in Battlefield/Brink I want to stop the influential people from bringing their team up, etc. I do play more of an assassin than a spammer, but that’s my reasoning which came before the action. Again not all people do that but it’s generally either a valid measurement of skill, or a valid strategy, not just “killwhoring”.

(rorgoroth) #16

I’m not sure about it, new name sounds more like a rainbow six or cod title. Saying that though I haven’t played the game so maybe it does fit the gameplay much better.

I discovered very recently (like, last week) about Dirty Bomb / Extraction. I am now so happy that SD is still around and kicking. I can’t believe how I missed this news until now… I almost thought that SD had gone under. So it’s awesome news for an old W:ET, ET:QW and Brink player like myself !

Although like some people here I found “Dirty Bomb” a bit more catchy than “Extraction”, what really matters is what’s inside the beast’s belly. As far as I can tell, the trademark features of most SD games are in there (yay !), and some mistakes of previous games seem to be avoided (yay !).

I’m about to back the game. I’m still usually very careful with Free2play model, although I was always thinking that Brink, for instance, could have exploited that with extended appearance customization items (I would have spent some money on that, definitely.).

In any case, be it Dirty Bomb or Extraction, I support you guys, and I’m glad the kings of objective-based online multiplayer FPS are back !!

(f00st) #18

Many other fps shooters are presently struggling to contain a somewhat rampant problem with hackers.

If Dirty Bomb / Extraction was, however, able to achieve this, the community may well find that many players from other franchises would drift over.

Unfortunately, Nexon doesn’t have a particularly good history with this part of their f2p model - only time will tell I suppose.

(cunningmunki) #19

Is it too late to change the name back?! “Dirty Bomb” sounded FUN, “Extraction” sounds like every other boring, run-of-the-mill, military-based FPS.

Even the new Extraction logo is dull, whereas the old Dirty Bomb logo was FUN.

Let’s hear it for FUN!

(potty200) #20

I just hope people give it a try. Get hooked then we have a decent FPS being played once again!
