Dev Q&A Response: 5th October

(Faraleth) #1

These questions were recently submitted to our lovely community manager, Shoe, over at Splash Damage. Thanks to everyone for their awesome questions - these answer are directly from the devs themselves.

Could we hear more on the upcoming “solution for useless cobalts” that was talked about the other day in the Nexon stream?
We will have more details on our solution for non-desired/duplicate Cobalts in the coming days as part of the latest update. We are also planning to balance Loadouts in the future.

The REVIVR hit-box for reviving people is still incredibly buggy/glitchy. I can often miss people when shooting them directly - even standing completely on top of them an not moving… It can miss. Any updates on this?
Nothing has been changed in the latest update, but we shall investigate for the next one.

Sometimes Sparks’ med-packs can land in places that are unreachable due to their small size. Could we see a detection box increase so that they can be picked up from a little further away, so they don’t get stuck? Here’s an example: http://i.imgur.com/uJWShCJ.jpg
Interesting bug. Will be investigated.

Will Proxy ever get “lock on”? Only Bushwhacker and Fletcher have it right now.
The Loadout Cards that are currently out are the first ‘generation’. More cards with come in the future, but no telling when at this point.

Can we see Pineapple Juggler replaced with something more useful? Right now, it’s just a dead augment that most people have never even pulled off.
We have ideas for what to do with Pineapple Juggler.

Can the “Competitive” missions be removed or replaced with something else? Forcing people into competitive matches is not how to persuade people to play it.
Missions aren’t intended to ‘force’ people into any particular method of play, but instead encourage people to move outside of their comfort zones and experience more of the game. If players don’t want to complete a particular mission, they can easily be abandoned and do re-stock every 3 hours.

Some of the iron-sights in the game are misaligned when aiming down sights. Could we get these looked at and adjusted?
These are being looked at. In previous and the upcoming update ironsight animations have been corrected.

Is “Lock On” for Fletcher being reworked/fixed?
Fletcher’s sticky bombs are receiving some timing changes in the next update and these timings do receive the 30% reduction in detonation from ‘Lock-On’.

Is there any update on the possibility of knife skins? (like bronze, silver, gold knives) I remember Shoe noting it down a little while ago, but we haven’t heard anything since then.
We have no answer for this one currently.

Some of the spawn points on Chapel feel a little too close or far away from the objectives at times. Is there any possibility these will be fixed in the near future?
Maps are constantly being looked at and tweaked in different ways. If it is too biased to one side then spawns will change, but this requires data to back this up before we make the change.

Could we ever see improvements to the drop-rate on elite cases? (ie. If you buy 5 or 10 cases, you are guaranteed at least one cobalt.)
It’s a good idea and something which we would be happy to look at, but it is not a priority for us at the moment as the current ‘Trade Up’ system allows you to access Cobalts too.

Will there ever be a reset or roll-back?
We are looking at doing Competitive Seasons. To what extent they will roll back is still yet to be decided. This will not affect players’ inventories.

Thanks again to Shoe for doing this for us! These questions were taken from this week’s Dev/Nexon stream Q&A thread, so if you have any questions yourself that you want answered on-stream or directly from the devs, feel free to post it there, or in the current week’s thread!

Enjoy… Until next time! #devQ&A

thanks as always

but wtf is up with these “timings” on fletcher? I “sniff” a nerf coming.

(Faraleth) #3

@kAndyREW I am worried you might be right… :frowning: Fletcher is not the best the worst Engineer right now for comp, not sure why they’d nerf him to be honest :L I mean, he’s not bad by any stretch of the imagination, a competent player can be great at him! But he don’t need a nerf D:

EDIT: Probably should have thought about wording before writing Fletcher was the “worst”. Thought my follow up statement would clarify my reasoning, because I assumed Proxy to be pretty good, but eh… I was wrong. Sorry folks. ^.^ Changed now.

Fletcher spam op…

Well if that is the purpose then why the win 1 comp match is in there, it doesn’t help “experiencing” more of the game it is just a stupid initiative that I haven’t saw one person take and if he does then congrats but still.
This mission is so bad and it doesn’t do shit except annoying people that they got that one.
Especially since this mission is not only depended on how you play but on how your teammates play which is impossible to control.

Inb4 I play comp all the time and I always win so this mission is no problem.

(affableTricycle) #6

I would say that Proxy is much worse than Fletcher. That’s not to say Fletcher needs a nerf, but he’s definitely viable right now, even with how buggy and finicky he can be.

No answers on sniper rifles :frowning:

(Faraleth) #8

@Xavien That won’t be something Shoe can answer right off the bat :3 I will send that one in my next batch of questions for the devs! <3

EDIT: Oops, thought I was on my round-up thread! XD But yes, that will be in the next batch of questions… I’d already sent the email by the time you commented :frowning:

The answer to the competitive mission highlights the difference between how we view things.

“If players don’t want to complete a particular mission, they can easily be abandoned and do re-stock every 3 hours.” is a massive finger given to any casual player who may not have several hours per working day to enjoy DB.

Yes, it is a minor detail in the overall scheme, but flawed thinking like this rubs me the wrong way. Shouldn’t every single mission be enticing and enjoyable?

I don’t want to be “moved out of my comfort zone”. I want to remain in the comfortable place that I enjoy and where I am far more likely to spend some money than in the dark place you are trying to lure me into.

thanks for forwarding

What is the “with” supposed to be? Will? May?

(MilkyBear) #15

R.i.p Fletcher 2015-2015

(Mr-Penguin) #16

Who is this “Flercher” you speak of?

And no, just because they’re adjusting the timing on stickies doesn’t mean that they’ll be nerfed to oblivion.

It could mean it. We don’t know yet though. I think I’ll keep most of my thoughts about it to myself until we know for sure what is happening. Though I will say I am happy they are making my cobalt A31 more useful. :stuck_out_tongue:

(pumpkinmeerkat) #18

Are sticky bomb timing changes definitely a nerf?? Kinda hoping the devs will address some of the many fletcher specific glitches before making any drastic balance changes.

(cornJester) #19

Nothing is definite yet.

(MilkyBear) #20

Stickies got a timing change which i believe they will slightly increase the time to detonate in order to make lock on works (30% decrease in time) or maybe they just keep it as normal but now including a functionally lock on.
