(ouroboro) #2

schwaaa? exsqueeze me? i baking powder? :weird:

(Detoeni) #3

@matt
Not sure whats up(cant get on my self), I’v been meaning to contact Ausman but…
Let me get back to you on this

(Loffy) #4

There are other Et mapping forums?

(Ifurita) #5

Atm its looks as though I can’t access the server with ftp and our forums are not working either, so unless Wolfensteinx start helping solve some problems Surface might be joining many a list of Wolf resources that have been fragged to obliteration, hopefully it doesn’t come to that though.

(Detoeni) #6

Thanks Ifurita, although that does not look promising…

(Ifurita) #7

:frowning:

Too bad. I used the Surface tutorials a lot when I started mapping and got that reply from Ausman when I offered my ET tutorials for the site

(Vitriol) #8

i wonder if Ausman can just move the surface site to a different host?

(Ifurita) #9

If you want, RTCW4Newbies is hosted by Gamespy. You can use that site if you want or you can contact Pappy-R for hosting. Someone else would have to admin it though as I know nothing about php, forums, etc

(Oxygen - o2) #10

no, hell no

gamespy sucks, i cant go anywhere near it without being blasted with pop ups spyware and add banners

use initialhost www.initialhost.com, its down right now because the server is off and the admin went on holiday  but its a god host

you get 1 mysql database, 1 pop 3 email address, no adds or banners what so ever for free

(Sauron|EFG) #11

It takes one line in your hosts file to get rid of all ads on all gamespy sites, and I’m not even sure hosted community sites have any ads to begin with.

A site that is down because the admin is on holiday doesn’t sound very good.

(ausman) #12

G’day all. Well so far it’s not looking so great for the surface forums. I believe the problem is to do with our database on Wolfensteinx’s server but i’m unable to access the server to see what’s the issue. It seems I can’t use ftp (there goes moving the site across), myphp admin, check emails, or use our news service to post news items, so I think it definately has something to do with Wolfensteinx. And that leads me onto Wolfensteinx, I’ve tried emailing both their feedback and news emails, PM their forum’s admin, leaving a thread on their forums but i’m yet to hear back from them. I still remain hopefull that the problem can be resolved, it would be a damn shame to lose all the valuable info that our forums had, as for the tuts, I think it might be a good idea if I saved them all just in case things turn sour.
Fingers crossed.

(Ifurita) #13

yes, the hosted sites have ads. Few things come free and many that do don’t stay around long.

(ausman) #14

Ok I’ve finally reached an admin at Wolfensteinx and it seems they’re in the process of changing servers so all is not lost, once i’m able to access the server again i’ll let you’s all know.

(bacon) #15

Maybe they’re trying to tell you not to use IE? :stuck_out_tongue:

use initialhost www.initialhost.com, its down right now because the server is off and the admin went on holiday  but its a god host

you get 1 mysql database, 1 pop 3 email address, no adds or banners what so ever for free

Yeah, because when the admin goes away and shuts down the server(s), that’s the BEST kind of hosting! -_-
There’s nothing wrong with being hosted by gamespy. AFAIK you get more with gamespy than with most hosts, including uptime when the admin goes on vacation

(Oxygen - o2) #16

i know

try RTCWfiles.com

i dont think community sites have adverts, ive never seen any on pop

BTW bacon, they have IE detectors, if its not IE they find some otherway to bullshit you with adds, oh and BTW i use firefox, and would never dream of going back to IE
