Demo speccing / makin video - camerainfo needed

(squadjot) #1

Ive got some questions about playing/viewing demos

In spectator mode u can orbit around the player…thats cool…but can u set up/down angle too??

What commands has something to do with the camera… or has an influence…

Can u go “true” spectator… watching what u want…like…flying around the map…as normal specator?

Is there a cfg or manual…for setting THE absolute best graphics settings… (im also thinking of whats possible when game runs in demo mode, (game not cheatprotected against surtain cvars nomore). F.ex r_lodbias, is noramlly locked to 5… would i gain higher graphic quality if i set i to 10? or 50?

thnx jot

Theres quite a few:

cg_cameraOrbit “0” change the step or increment units of the orbit rotation from one angle how much of a step to next angle
cg_cameraOrbitDelay “50” change the rate at wich the camara moves to the next orbit position the higher the number the slower
cg_thirdPerson “0” toggle the use of and third person view
cg_thirdPersonAngle “0” change the angle of perspective you view your player (180 changes view to the front of the model)
cg_thirdPersonRange “40” change the distance you view your player from when in 3rd person view

Taken from an old Q3 site I used to use. Should still all be there…

thnx Piggy, i was more or less aware of those commands tho… im still interested in free specmode…and the other stuff i wrote about

(Sauron|EFG) #4

Free spec isn’t possible, but a future version of ETPro will include Extended Demo Viewer which has some really cool features (like freecam, rocket cam and grenade cam).

(squadjot) #5

Oke…sounds cool…when could we exspect this release? :o

(pgh) #6

STILL not tried to get round to using it yet, but is the MultiView cam fully implemented and functional yet? Was Coaching our Q3TDM side last nite, well, spectating them with the odd team chat (I dont do OSPTDM) and it was split into a 4 way so I can watch all 4 players at once… was the greatest game to watch even it was just like a Capture and Hold with the Quad/MH/RL/Rail.

Also still got ALL my demos from Savage ET season one when I played for 83rd and season two currently underway obv at lsr. Got some stuff ripped and stuff waiting, sooner these new spec/demo features are implemented the better.

cg_cameraorbit
cg_cameraorbit delay

theese two variables, doesent seem to have any visual effect. ?

(pgh) #8

If they do work it will ONLY be in Thirdperson. It wont have an effect in First. Also try, I think, cg_orbit <1-360> which is another orbit command for first person but varied in speed depending what the value is.

(squadjot) #9

i tried it… offcourse :)…

so ure saying if i set…cameraorbitdelay to 180 … then i would turn around the player in two clicks…but thats just not what happens…maybe im doing something wrong…??

btw…i use the 3rdperson function, from the ET demo menu…

(pgh) #10

Nah, the value is the speed the camera moves at. 1 Being a 360 turn round the player slowly, where as 180 is a 360 turn at 180 x the speed as before. If you wish for instant turns straight round bind a key for cg_thirdpersonangle 180 then default and hit em for a standard behind thirdperson person, hit it and it switchs 180 in front and then again to go back to before.

(squadjot) #11

hm…Piggy…im not sure i understood ur last post…but…cameraorbitdelay is default at 50 …if im right… and cameraorbit = 1…

but no matter what values i put it…it seems like…nothing changes…

(pgh) #12

Hrms, if you can m8 grab me on IRC later on Quakenet @ #lsr.et as pgh sometime this evening. If not i’ll have a looksy when I get home as usual and let ya know…

(squadjot) #13

will do that, thnx

still, others…if u know about Demo recording, tips and tricks…scripts…

(Kendle) #14

That’s because it doesn’t. Values for all these things (and key binds as well) are hard-coded in ET, so you can’t write demo playback scripts for ET like you could for RTCW etc.

(pgh) #15

I’ve got one from Q3 i’ve implemented fine? Will

it later at home and i've had no problems. Obv things that didnt work is g_syncclients etc..

*blinks*.

thats exactly what i thought…and i can “feel”…that there IS no actual official documentaion of WHAT is actually “locked” by hardcoding in ET…am i right?

(The_Jesus_Zeppelin) #17

this is most likely off topic, but im avoiding making more useless threads.

i wanted to make a vid with some first person stuff in it but what are the commands for changing your hud, as of…i want that stupid little face that mocks me when i get shot GONE! and i kinda want to change the xp meter and skill table to just the numbers on the side. not the icon system.

also, whatever happened to the enhanced spectator project, that would be useful for a vid.

(Kendle) #18

You’ll need a mod then, ETPro has various alternative huds you can use. There’s no cvar in standard ET to get rid of the face afaik.

I doubt there’s any documentation, but I’m finding you can change cvars no problem, even play back demos using cheat protected cvars (try r_lightmap 1 for instance!) but you can’t bind keys it seems. I had a nice demo playback script for RTCW using the cursor keys to speed up / slow down playback and start / stop capturing screenies, but I can’t get it to work in ET. :frowning:
