Demo Gameplay Questions

(TX_RED_ANT) #1

While playing the demo at Qcon, a few questions have now filtered there way back to the head.

Vehicles: While moving around the map I coudln’t tell :
a) If ramming a ground opponent did damage, b) ramming opponent vehicle did damage, c) if team damage will be done if a & b happpens?

XP Gain: As in ET, one of the issues was if you happened to disconnect from server for whatever reason you lost your XP. Will there be a save for players returning to the same server within a given timelimit? Is XP gained cross class? If I unlock a feature as a Field Ops persay for a deployable/item, is it unlocked for the team? Is there team XP gain for some of the objectives, ie team/or solo?

Input… Thoughts… Answers would be appriciated if possible.

@TX_RED_ANT: did you see anyone at quakecon filming the game demos? it sucks that it’s been one week since quakecon and nobody put a decent gameplay vid on the web :frowning:

(TX_RED_ANT) #3

Nein, saw a bunch of people walking around with cameras and such, but unless authorized by SD/ID, I hope it wasnt crappally filmed.

Hmm, actually XP gain, awards and everything is carried over in W:ET if you haven’t quit the game completely (to the OS), just disconnected from the server and reconnected back. At least in ETPro it does.

Right, talking non-mod add-ons and such. As well if the XP is carried over from map to map, is there a cutoff so someone with high XP can no longer recieve solo based missions for XP?

Anyone?

a) If ramming a ground opponent did damage, b) ramming opponent vehicle did damage, c) if team damage will be done if a & b happpens?

to A and B one strog vehicle is reported to have a powerfull raming attack and looking at the speeds vehicles can move it would be pretty stupid not to have them damage infintary

C although its not mentioned afaik i would be extreamly surpried if teamdamage is not implemented. id say its highly likely that it will be a server setting

I am expecting team damage, just asking if vehicles will cause the effect.

Team damage from vehicles was simultaniously the funniest part and the worst part of vehicles in Halo. Probably had something to do with the fact that just being tapped by a warthog was an instant death, making “meet you in the middle” passenger pickups almost always fatal except for the most experienced players. I expect it will be better polished in ETQW.

realy? i found it almost imposible to kill anyone with vehicles in halo since you seemed to jump right over them and then float slowly to the ground

Umm, err… how much does shotgun headshot deal ?

Is constructor’s nailgun a mirror image of shotgun, or something like original weapon from Quake ? I ask because now even hyperblaster seems to be a hitscan weapon. Anyway, something that I assume is hyperblaster.

It appears flying vehicles can be taken down with machinegun. How about tanks ? Do bullets do any visible damage to them ?

Do vehicles run out of ammo ? Do they ever have to run back to base or something ? (except for repairs)

Seems like tanks (and possibly other vehicles) have machineguns which can be manned. But if machinegun operator is exposed, doesn’t it make him very vulnerable ? I mean, foot soldiers can at least hide, use cover, or at least actually control their movement. And tank/mg42 operators in W:ET are extremely vulnerable. Can they at least pop in and out ?

How does the strogg force shield work ? I mean the one their ‘medic’ uses.

What are the unlockable weapons ? Just pistol replacements ?

How do strogg weapons overheat ? Similar to sten in W:ET ? Do they make some kind of noise when overheating or what ? (presumably no animation).

How many shots to kill someone with a sniper rifle ?

Handgrenades ? Why no information about handgrenades ? No grenades in videos etc ?

Team damage is in from vehicles, at least from one of the latest videos. You see a GDF run out the base toward the bridge and then all of a sudden he’s in the limbo menu… he spawns right away and you can see from the air that a tank ‘bumped’ him. I replayed that part a few times to figure out what killed him.

(Nail) #13

Grenades were mentioned in one of the videos with Paul

(B0rsuk) #14

Perhaps, but did he say ‘handgrenades’, or ‘grenades’ ? Grenades could be just rifle grenades.

I’d love to see number of handgrenades cut in half for each class, but they would be more impressive to compensate. Result: less spam, and now it actually takes skill to kill someone with a handgrenade.

Tribes grenades :moo:

that’s from E3.

(nUllSkillZ) #18

BTW will ET:QW be localised.

(TX_RED_ANT) #19

Stay Tuned… These questions and more will be answered…by someone…somehow…someday…maybe…

(Wils) #20

Some answers, in no particular order:

Hand-held grenades: yes

Vehicle player damage: yes

Localised: yes

Shotgun headshot damage: depends how many pellets hit you. Lethal close range.

Strogg weapon overheat: similar to Sten.
