Defending Dynamite Plants

(schmeisser) #1

A noob question, no doubt, but humor me:

Oasis- I plant at North or South gun, an axis engie lobs a few grenades through the door, I get killed, he defuses. Would I be better off outside trying to kill any engies who come along to defuse? Does climbing on top of the gun give better protection from grenades?

Fuel Dump - I plant, a whorde of axis come through the East gate from the back tunnel, waste me, and defuse. I have tried mining the axis spawn back tunnel exit and main fence gate, but that usually only kills one axis, assuming you have time to mine both approaches (and engie regen power to do it). I have tried planting on top of the tanks, but usually get killed by axis on the roof.

Any collective wisdom appreciated.

Oasis…
Usually I’m better off sitting outside, so that I can see the axis engis approaching. Then you can decide to (1) run and try to defend your dyna from a distance… ( if using riflegren), or (2) fight them… if there are only a few of them… or (3) something else

clear the area before you plant

then plant on top of gun, it take them like a few more secs to get on top and some noobs just try and jump to it

then wait round the corner of a doorway they are gona come through, they are usualy so worked up bout the dyno the dont see anyone in from of them and go right past you then shoot em in the back easily, if there are load let the run past then when u see an engie try take him out fast before the others realise whats happening and always try to gib him so you took out the one that matters

oasis - depends how clear it is. I’d only ever really assume that all you’re going to be able to do is delay axis, unless you have teammates backing you up. On pubs usually the best place to defend the dyna is out the back, get up the dune and shoot in (planting in certain positions allows you to cover better), but tbh I doubt its worth trying to get out there after planting, unless you snuck in under their noses an eng is going to have to come far and be really short on time, so a small delay is often enough.

fueldump - again your just trying to delay axis, or if you’re lucky manage to gib their only eng who responds. sheltered creates good for delays, hiding in the fuel containers tends to be better for gibbing the eng. If theyre smart enough to clear you out before sending the eng in, then youre screwed both ways of course, but hey its a team game and it is supposed to be good fortune if you can pull off a win by yourself.

Make sure you have some buddies redy to back you up.
A Fd ops to Arty the steps will seriously hinder the Axis’s attempts to defuse.

I plant and run around back to launch nades thru the gun’s window or I kamikazee nade them, they hate that. Go out fighting !!!

Yeah, don’t stand in room if you can avoid it. South gun: plant and hide at tank (the tank’s right side - crouch). Guard the plant from there.
Both guns: How about planting a few mines before you go to the gun? I do that alot and it’s always fun to see them axis engis KABOOM on my mines as they run toward the gun.

Thanks for the suggestions, all. On pub servers, you are often on your own. Even if a clan is playing on pub, they tend to ignore anyone they don’t know, so usually I’m on my own. I have tried hiding just inside the Fueldump East gate, tight to the building. Sometimes they will run right by like you said, and you can nail them from behind.

Running out to the dune and nading through the window on Oasis sounds iffy. How do you know when someone is in the room? I like the tank idea, or maybe hiding in the hall way opposite the South gun doorway and riflenading them as they go through.

Well, if you are an engineer you will have 4-8 nades most likely. So if you add up the time to run out there and then nade launching time added in, you’re pretty much set.
---- Low on nades ? I call it headphones and listening for footsteps (you should anyways)also keep track of what footsteps are associated with which gun sound(locational hearing).

I would always run out of the gun room since you an easy target for rifle nades or pf in there. If there is time enough always run out and hide: let the enemy pass and concentrate to shot (and gib) all engis who try to get to the gun for defusing.
Deploy some landmines before planting if possible.

My personal, dastardly preference is to retire to the little room on the South Wall. It’s fairly easy to get to, covers the only entrance to the Gun Room, is in easy hand grenade range of the Gun and you stand a good chance of stopping or at least delaying any Axis Engies stampeding around the wall from the West. Of course, my main satisfaction is shooting Engies in the back, or pinging rifle grenades into the Gun Room. But then I’m just a bad person, and incapable of killing anyone in open play.

Someone in a frag movie was shooting rifle nades from the old city to the north gun - that’s a nice way to defend the plant.

Oasis - If u can’t kill the incoming defenders, make sure they don’t kill u. If u can have their attention for about 20 secs, u win. Just run around like mad, cover wherever u can and don’t let them shoot.

Goldrush - N-E-V-E-R blow the east defenses. Either blow the west defenses, jump from the roof or trickjump the defenses but NEVER blow the east one. Then just keep the enemy fighting u and not defusing the dynamite.

Hint for tank-escort missions - if u have to escort the tank on ur own under very heavy fire, keep entering and leaving the vehicle. That’ll confuse the defenders for a few seconds and buy u some time (they won’t know where to shoot).

Gold Rush and east defenses :nag:
Fuel Dump! (?)

We never even build the east(?) defenses on fuel dump :stuck_out_tongue:

You mean Fueldump, not Goldrush? From what I’ve been seeing, axis never builds east defense anyway, they build the fence, but no gate, and they just mine the hell out of it. I got in through east today by grenading the mines, ran in, planted, got wasted by axis arty on the fueldump, a fairly effective defense of last resort. HA!

(next_ghost) #18

Errr, sorry, that was a little quick post so I made a small thinko…

When Axis don’t build the east defenses, u can either try engineer rush (taking 3+ engineers for ONE round and spam the fuel dump with dynamites if match rules allow it) or get the rest of team covering the east defenses with heavy fire (MG-42 deployed in the curve between central cave exit and allied CP is very effective). If u have none of these, try to spam the east defenses with nades/artillery.

When I first saw this thread title I somehow assumed that someone was taking the fairly uncontroversial stance that planting dynamite was a good thing, and they were doing to defend the practice thereof. I was kind of curious to see what opposition he’d meet. “No, we decry this foul and unnatural practice! This planting of dynamite must stop. Stop it. Stop it now.”

For the record, I’m all in favour of the dynamite planting. If you have dynamite, plant it, say I.

Unless I’m playing Axis.

Can I have some of whatever you’re taking Bongoboy ?
