Dedicated Servers
Uhhh nope. I didnt donate a large sum of money as a founder to be lead around like we were going to have dedicated servers and then to not. They can have the crappy t-shirt back, just give me a damn refund.
I don’t think they ever claimed they are going to let people host their own dedicated servers. But to be honest, I’m really disappointed, too.
nope, despite what the Nexon moderators seem to think, customer owned servers were never promised, rentals were hinted as being important but never promised.
those colonials have no real understanding of English
Correction, it was private servers that were discussed, the idea of rentals only came in right near the end.
Although I can’t be bothered going into all the details as it’s clearly not an agenda item right now.
Unfortunately hosting a Dirty Bomb server on your own hardware won’t ever be an option due to how secure we need dedicated servers to be.
We are looking in to a system for ‘Community Rented Servers’ via authorised Game Server Providers, however I can’t provide any sort of ETA at this point, sorry.
The idea behind ‘Community Rented Servers’ is that we’d allow the admins to set certain things like Server Name, Game Mode, Map List, Friendly Fire etc. and provide them with an Admin control for moderating players, teams, maps, restarts etc. Enough control to let them make their server their own and build a community around it, something that has been missing from Dirty Bomb so far.

Don’t forget to allow server tunings / allow renters to set different renting price for different number of slots / server capabilities / bandwidth, so anyone willing to pay a good amount of money can have good tickrate and quality server broadband. Because only allowing server rental with the current service would be totally presposterous and literal cow milking. I would only pay if I can have extra quality on top of community aspects.

this is realy bad!
just think about why was ET so great? a big reason was because all the server wich there hostet by the conmunity (for free) with all the special stuff everyone had. mods, maps, whatever.
I’m willing to host a db server with "my"settings an who also like it can join and shoot me
I’m not willing to rent some.
Regards
ASD
none of our servers were free (for us) neither was our website or FTP server
most servers were rented from a server provider, don’t remember ever playing on someone’s home server (would have been absolute crap then)
W:ET was great, but only because ETPro made comp possible and shrub w/xp save brought all the idiots in
try get DB people to play W:ET, they won’t (it’s too hard)
Well you didn’t have to pay a premium to run the software to host a server in W:ET.
Anyway I don’t see the point of investing resources into allowing people to rent their own server in DB.
I don’t understand what that has to do with the topic, but something like 10?
But I based my comment off past experience with other games. If the server hosts have exclusive rights to run servers then they tend to be more expensive. As for my other remark I think the whole basing your community around 1 server in 1 game is outdated. Games don’t have the longevity that they used to (and even then they were going to de out eventually) so better to base your community around a discord server or website, something that can be used across different games.
but if i have already ded (root) server… its “free” to run ET, QW, whatever… I do not need to pay for some “gameserver provieder”
in the past I had ET 2 times…one shrub (for the kids and me … i always play to have fun not to have had comp … but little bit comp is also good but dont take it 2 serious…) on TJ… the later one QW and for some time a dogfight server…
for DB i would like to see FF public server… I dont need al this ranked stuff only let us have some fun …

More like it’s too dead.

It’s free to run an unranked server, not a ranked one. When it comes to f2p games that have credits, XP, leveling and crates it’s just not viable to allow that to be run on home kit. I also don’t think SD want what happened with ETQW where half the community were on custom unranked servers and the other half were on ranked to get their XP and rank progression, basically splitting the community in half.
yes there is always some who care about XP and there are other who play because of the fun with the game
Are you suggesting those that play for XP aren’t having fun doing it? What an ignorant comment.

…to me this sounds like a fair compromise.
in a f2p enviroment we wont see all the mods and community-stuff like we had in W:ET - thats illusive.
but without certain servercontrol for Clans the game is dead already. with the stated above ist possible to give a certain flavour to a server, organize matches, train as a Team … wouldn´t be perfect but way enough to meet the Needs.
