Dedicated Servers

(Psygnosis.) #1

As thread title :

There will be Dedicated Servers and not the hosted-rooms fullfist of lag (ie: unplayable) ?!

If yes, they will be rentable from the classic Hosting Providers (such Swissquake, Gamehosting, etc etc)

I really hope to see Dedi in Dirty Bomb, since we need them to play CW and official stuff

Dedicated servers would definitely help but as long as you can specify the parameters of the server you are using that is fine to provided its not client side like call of duty.

I want some ! Teams need to host servers to let the community “engaged”
It’s a social way, you can meet some others clans, organise wars, it’s like a meating point made by players for players.
Best way imo to keep the community involve, if there is no server to be hosted it’s like an already dead game you just gonna play without any attachment, just connected or not like every little Korean F2P …

keep admin on servers, good admins make good servers ! and 1rst person spectator is the best way to avoid cheaters &Co. Admin can check by themself ! and not kick and ban just because of a suspicion. (BF3 is going to die just for this … cheaters all the way around and without spec mode nobody can detect them … so admin ban and kick like they want just because like they say : you are Suspect ! … just lol )

It would be nice to leave some responsibility to the community that supported you so far. If not imo, it would be a lack of respect for those who sustain you for so long.

totally agreed with all this

+1 for what BomBaKiaK said, in fact I won’t be buying it if there aren’t dedicated servers, I don’t buy games I don’t think will last more than a couple of months, and this game won’t last more than a couple of months if there are no dedicated servers, it’s clans / communities and the servers they rent / admin that contribute to the longevity of games IMHO.

(KlausMorgenholz) #6

Me neither, it’s gonna be free2play

(BomBaKlaK) #7

let’s see if they wanna listen to the community … last “Brink-time” they just dont do it at all.
you had my trust SD and you clearly lost it with brink, you just ignored community feedback and fall deeper than ever.
Now you need to regain that trust with your community. … so wait and see.

(NeoRussia) #8

I doubt that it is SD’s fault for what happened with Brink, it was a fine game just all of the problems have to do with Bathesda most likely. Bathesda is known for being a crappy devoloper for their community and they don’t give 2 ****s about the PC gaming community especially. GG Bathesdasoft and your castrated titles thank you for ruining id software quake con will never be the same.

(BomBaKlaK) #9

Main fault is for bethesda but not all.

(phoen1x) #10

You remember when SD said they have finished the game even earlier than it was supposed to be finished? LOL  But yeah i guess bethesda put a lot of pressure on SD to release it as soon as possible. Day 1 patches eh?

(xarQi) #11

yes dedicated servers are the key for clans, competetive play!

(Dysfunkshion) #12

Dedicated servers are a must. I don’t get why devs nowadays even think about working with hosts, they’ve grown up on dedicated servers and experienced how much it is to play with and against the same people everyday. Without dedicated servers, there’s no feel of community at all.

(Patriotqube) #13

Linux please

(DarkKnightDK) #14

Dedicated Servers!!! A must!

I would like confirmation about proper stand alone dedicated server files. Seems so many developers have forgotten what that means.

Will there be “proper stand alone dedicated server files” released? Let me define. This is a much smaller version of the game, including only that which is necessary to host a game. No need for a listen host, video drivers, sound drivers etc. Can be downloaded separately from the game, and run on a dedicated server box. Will be fully ranked/unranked, depending on what the server owner wants. Fully customize-able. Proper working rcon.

How many players will there be on a server? SD seems to be going backwards. As computers and technology become better, the ability to host MORE players should be easier and more evident. SD goes backwards…

RTCW = 64 players
W: Enemy territory = 64 players
ET Quake Wars = 32 players
Wolfenstein 2009 = 12 players (yes I know SD didnt develop it, here for a reference)
Brink = 16 players

If this trend continues, then Dirty Bomb will be 8 players. Unacceptable. Can we see a 128 player server like the old days? Say Chaser or BF1942?

Is there going to be a proper rcon implemented? Again, seems to be something developers have forgotten about. The “r” for rcon is REMOTE, meaning we can send commands remotely to affect the behavior of the server. I shouldnt need to be on the server, open the console on the server, in order to execute commands on the server. I would like to be able to use an admin tool, such as Big Brother Bot to administrate the server, and assign admins to other members. Rcon and proper logs are necessary for this.

How many maps will there be on release day? How large are the maps?

TIA

(BomBaKlaK) #16

Wolf ET has 24 players most of the time except some servers with big maps with 64 players same for RTCW
ETQW has 24 players to ! Did you play this games ?

and yeah Brink got only 16 slots maybe to small for pub servers.

For me 24 is the best number ! 128 players is a way to much !
if you wanna large fight then go play planetside with 2000 players.

(Psygnosis.) #17

Yeap, 128 way too many… For that you will need very Huge maps and in Dirty Bomb this will not happen

Better 24 players max in Fun matches - otherwise you spawn and die in 2 sec. after pressing " respawn " button and the gameplay goes stright to hell if the maps are suited for 24 players (or even less) and not for 128…

(DrD3ath) #18

Have we had any further information on dedicated servers yet ?

(Ston3Cold) #19

None at this stage, lets hope that we’ll have access to the dedicated server files and that we’re not stuck with peer-to-peer hosting.

(montheponies) #20

I’m struggling a bit with how 3rd party hosted dedicated servers would work in a f2p model?
