well, i want to buy the dedicated one…
dont know how strong machine should i get yet
and wanna know how many ET servers can i put there
(20 slot servers f.e?)

FIRST:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3700+
RAM: 1 gb ddr400
NIC: 100mbits

SECOND:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Dual Core
RAM: 2 gb ddr400
NIC 100mbits

and i know that there is guide at:
http://rtcw.jolt.co.uk/content/enemy_territory/server_guide/requirements.html

but i dunno how should i calculate… coz this stuff is much younger

any ideas?

Well unless SD say something i think its fairly impossible to say you cant compare it to that link because its not the same game and you can compare it to Doom 3 or whatever games use that engine because they have said they completely redid the net code.

If the net code is better than BF2 (and really thats not hard to beat) then your looking at 32> for the first option and 64> for the second.

My server has an AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 1GB or ram and a 100MBit connection and has no trouble at all running 32 BF2 slots so hopefully ill be able to squeeze a bit more out of QW.

btw where are you planing to get your server if you dont mind my asking?

and i dont know how the machine behave if there will be few servs…

i mean: can i calculate it like in guide- 30 hz per player f.e. - or should use other value(s)?

ah my mistake. Well I don’t see any problem with the 30MHz calculation, assuming its correct i don’t see why you couldn’t have 2 or 3 20/30 slot servers running.

If I push it I can run 2 32 BF2 servers, as long as both arnt full at the same time theres no strain on the server so you should also take into consideration how popular the servers will be.

edit: I looked at that server provider i’ve heard there quite good. I went with easyspeedy instead and shoved Gentoo on my box

My server has AMD Athlon 64 3800+ with RAM 1 gb (CL 2.5 - 466 Mhz). 120 gb HDD.
It can handle 40 players at the same time without any lag. (ETPUB 7.2 mod)

My another older server is aged “PIII 800” with 768 mb antique SDRAM 133 Mhz. 20 gb stone age HDD.
It can handle at least 22 players without any lag. (ETPUB 6.5)
Yes!!! No kidding. I’ve tried 24 players and it still works well. Sure, I mean when the server is full.

All run with Ubuntu Linux 6.06. Dedicated servers, no other service is on.

So both your settings are enough for a 20 slot server. Dual Core doesn’t help because ET isn’t optimized for that but maybe you can invest for the future game. CPU are cheap anyway.

Regarding the RAM, I found my ET thread never uses more than 200 mb when 40 players are online. Add other programs and Linux core itself, you don’t need more than 512 mb. But again, 1 gb seems to be the minimum RAM you can get from the market.

Now you know ET dedicated server doesn’t require high spec. but make sure your internet connection is good enough.

He wants to run multiple servers, so a multi-core CPU won’t hurt.
