So I ask this since ages (more than a year), do you have any plan for this ?
- Free Binaries ?
- provider list with licence ?
- Nothing at all ?
So I ask this since ages (more than a year), do you have any plan for this ?
This is sort of related to the topic. Does anyone know what tickrate the servers run at?
I heard something about 60, something like 90 or 120 for comp side can be nice.
So @MissMurder ? any new about servers ?
We wanna help support turneys and cups so we will be working with our dear friends @ Evaczone
After looking up Evaczone I am not exactly sure what they do. The site is a bit sparse from what I can see. I didn’t go to the forums though.
I guess the main question is can players have their own servers for their own communities and can teams have servers to practice and scrim on that only they can use?
@MissMurder Did you make politics ? Cause maybe you can !
I ask something and you are totally off my question …
Like asked before : any way to rent dedicated servers ?
Are you interested to build a community or what ?
@BOMBA we won’t have private servers by tomorrow, no. Of course we know they are important and are looking at options for later down the road.
@MissMurder OK ! they when can we have a bit of new about this point ?
What options are you studdy ?
Some infos are needed at this point if you want a real community.
People must be crazy to think we will be able to host servers for free like we can with source games… we will probably be able to rent servers from someone like gameservers.
and i agree with BOMBA, information is really lacking about this
There is a lack of information on this because we haven’t decided anything yet.
I will give you news when I have it. What would be your preference?
Free server binaries so we can host servers on our own and have 100% control over them.
Yup, binaries so that we can host our own servers would definitely be the best option. Also, multiple certified providers would be acceptable even though I’d rather have this in conjunction with binaries. Let people who have the bandwidth and hardware host their own community servers while letting people rent from well known companies. Best of both worlds. CS:GO and TF2 does this quite nicely I think.
1 000 000 % For binaries !!
Best for Pub to build a community around some servers.
if there is a clan support then link the clan page to a dedicated server.
Be able to create meeting points is important.
Custom server settings like for TDM pistol only, or shotgun only, etc … to get some practise
Best for comp to be able to change some settings if needed (Mercs limitations, etc …)
Be able to Link a “Team” to a server, & with match making you can play directly on the best of the 2 team server, or directly on your server if the other team don’t have any.
If the DB community is not involved in the hosting process then just forget about building a real and solid community. So think about it and decide it quickly cause is for me one of the main factor for the success of this game. (With maps !)
Couldn’t agree more with @BOMBA . This will define the game, how you implement dedicated server options. Let the community to host their own games, with HW of their choice. Enable as much different options as possible, so that clans/teams can create somewhat unique servers to the community.
What comes to cash, as there is no free lunch, I bet @MissMurder need to get paid somehow. I personally would pay X money for server binaries to you guys, rather than some random server renting company.
If the only option is to rent the server from 3rd party, then this is no go for me and my clan/community. I build community around ET when it was published and this is exactly what we have been waiting for since time went past ET.
I can see non ranked rental servers as being available, server binaries, not so much, they just don’t make any sense for the business model imo

@Amerika , Hello! Yes we are still working out for ourselves what we are looking to concentrate on. I guess for now we are looking to be the competitive “hub” as it were of Dirtybomb. News, cups, drama, anything else worthy will be there eventually. I am more or less doing the website alone with a little help from @Pauluzz from Fragwise.eu who is hosting the website. Got Sean writing a few bits, but life has gotten the best of him
I am sure as time goes by, it’ll be a little clearer what we will be doing!
Thanks
I’d really like the opportunity to have rented servers. Community/Team servers are definitely the best way to have people meeting each other and let them build something together. Imo, that’s the best way to support communities and comp scene. On the downside tho, that’s also allowing people to have a regard on their server kick/ban which can cause drama.
Like many games did in the past, for server binaries, I’d go for “non-ranked” servers (does not keep track of progression and do not give any reward). Simply because it’d prevent people from fiddling with the code and try to grab extra xp bonuses. Imo, any passworded server should not keep track of stats as well, to prevent statpadding too.
Official and non-passworded rented servers = “ranked”
Any passworded server or with special rules and servers directly run by somebody = “not ranked”
Needless to say, this implies that there is some kind of approval for server renters as well. I know renting is somehow frustrating and costly, but, on the dev/editor side, you can’t allow someone to host a server with a low quality broadband and approve it. If ranked, this server might be joined by some gamers who are not aware. This might lower their game experience.
Please do not stay only on this provider. On numerous occasions on other games, they were cheaply maintained with not so good broadband. Good servers with steady tickrate is not their cup of tea.
