Deciding on if I should play?

(BiigDaddyDellta) #21

you should play, that is all.

(DirtyLarry) #22

Few more (final) questions.

  1. [li]Does it use any other service for MP? like a Gamespy, etc? If so I need to try and recall my username(s) and password for whatever service it may be.
[/li][li]Is VOIP supported in-match, and if so, do people use it? Or do people use Ventrillo or similar services? I would imagine without even playing, voice communication is definitely preferred in a game where teamwork is so paramount, so just wondering what that whole aspect is like as well.
[/li][li]Finally, I am to late for the free DLC correct? That two weeks was well over two weeks ago?
[/li]main reason I ask is I imagine that may pose some issues. If everyone is now playing the DLC, and I do not own it, I could potentially be screwed there no?

Thanks again for all of your assistance so far everyone. I will be installing it when I get home from work tonight, through Steam I am hoping.

(thesuzukimethod) #23

no idea about 1 and 2 (not on pc)…but free dlc window starts Aug 3. so just in time!

(gooey79) #24

1] No. Only thing is that it’s tied to your Steam account.
2] VOIP can be enabled but I don’t think it’s used much.
3] Nope, DLC coming next week. Unless they’ve got it wrong again, Lol.

Game seems worth it for $20, even if just for the achievement hunting. Just don’t go in the with expectation of it having a big player based or being played for years (like W:ET or ET:QW).

(FireWorks) #25

ETQW didnt have a big player base either… We had those “QW is dead” discussions back then like we have “brink is dead” now… Still both are played to this very day

Its only bound to steam, which is a smaller annoyance then I thought thb.

VOIP is rarely used in EU for different reasons but those who do, are usually a good help

DLC was a hot topic for the last month and now it is finally announced for release on wednesday, so you got a good timing there!

  1. No, only Steamworks
  2. Yes, you would think that, but SD decided VOIP should be off by default
  3. DLC should have been here over a month ago, but guess what, you are still on time since it hasn’t been released yet.

EDIT:
Just went on BRINK to see if I could finnaly bind melee on my scrollwheel (which I STILL CANNOT), and went to check the server count.

There was one server which was 10/10, and full. Then there were 7 more servers with 2 players or more with 8 players max and you play against a bot team.

So that’s the playercount. 1 full human server of 10 people, and then a handfull (7) of half bot filled servers.
Ow, and it is 20:00 CET.

(DirtyLarry) #27

Crytiqal, you are not making me very confident in my decision to keep the game LOL
Thanks again for the responses, definitely happy to hear it is not tied to some other service like Gamespy, also who knows, maybe the DLC will revive some people into playing. So that was good timing. Nice.
perhaps I will see some of you this weekend.

Hmmmmm,
Hmmmmm,

“North America: 1. Medal of Honor (EA Games, PS3), 2. Brink (Bethesda, X360), 3. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft, Wii), 4. Zumba Fitness (Majesco, Wii), 5. Brink (Bethesda, PS3).”

selling well for consoles, sadly he has it on the pc

And I would really watch the brink servers through steam before even opening the game.
Yes the game is pretty damn good but the lack of players for one is killing it.
It might be better in EU servers but NA servers are nearly all gone normally i find about 11-20 active servers during prime time but most of the have 1-4 players but maybe 2-3 are full but they also have over 150 ping.

I’ve kept my copy installed and waiting for the dlc to come out but i really dont have high hopes

Yeah if you scroll down you can see it was #1 for the week on 360:
“Xbox 360 - North America: 1. Brink (Bethesda), 2. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 3. Medal of Honor (EA Games), 4. Kinect Sports (Microsoft), 5. Halo Reach (Microsoft).”

Surely there are PC players out there that are satisfied with pub-level competition? Or is it your estimation that invariably all PC players gravitate to wanting/needing a more competitive environment to continue playing?

Part of me can totally see how a PC FPS player by default might be more geared to a higher level of play, but it’s also hard to comprehend that there isn’t a pool of PC players that just want to have fun (read: playing purely for the entertainment value).

Honest question.

I am PC. I play for fun. I have never, ever had time in my life for clans although I have toyed with them. I would not want to play profesionally or competitively as I would only be wasting my team mates time by not being able to dedicate enough time.

I am a busy working man and a full time husband and father. This game suits my needs to the ground.

Basically, boiled down to the bare nuts and bolts, the only difference I see from RTCWET, QWET and Brink is that RTCWET was free, QWET had vehicles and both earlier games had far less team work and an awful lot more Rambos.

Brink pretty much forces players to be a team, weirdly it reminds me of L4D1.

I enjoy it.

$20???

(thesuzukimethod) #34

(i feel like i’m following you around)…amazon gold box dotd last tues. (prob) helps explain how Brink hit top 5 for xbox/ps3/multiplatform sales for week ending yesterday.

Sorry, below char limit. I meant “Sweeeeeeeet.”

I do believe that there’s a pretty big casual playerbase out there. Currently, that playerbase is playing a lot of CS:S, SC2 and COD:MW2. All games with a large competitive scene.

Thing is: Competition is all about rewarding you for the effort you put in. The moment players don’t feel their effort is paying off, or feel that other players get similar rewards without putting in effort, they stop playing the game. This doesn’t just go for competitive gamers. I would say Brink on PC, in its current state, is a good example of how not to do things.

DirtyLarry: I’d say buy it. Despite it’s shortcomings, it’s not a bad game. Just don’t expect to play online in 2 months.

(Crytiqal) #37
I finally picked this game up since it was on sale at amazon for $20 a few days ago.
Just ask yourself, why a brand new game dropped so much in price so short after it’s release…

(DrpPlates) #38

Wrong, ETWQ had a rather Large player base…
it took ETQW 3 years to die, unlike Brink, which took 3 months…

should note, more peeps are playing ETQW then Brink… on PC of course…

if you are ok with a PC Port game- play away, — against Bots… cause thats all your going to get… PC is dead… DLC comes out next week, might revive the game for a short while, new maps and all… but in no time, the game will be dead on PC once again… the One key to rule them all (F) killed the game for me and many PC gamers…

once this free DLC runs it course, i say 2-3 weeks, the PC version will die completely…

if i were you, take the game back and buy ETQW - steam has it for 19.99…
guaranteed to have a few full servers, plus there on the East coast - so you’ll enjoy a nice low PING!

(Crytiqal) #39

Definitaly, if you have to choose between BRINK and ETQW, get ETQW, no doubt.

ETQW costs about 5 bucks I reckon.

(xTriXxy) #40

i suggest you to purchase Brink. Maybe you will like it.
