DB's Menus Give a Poor First Impression to Newbies

(hawkeyeguy99) #1

I’m not talking design, but the menu’s themselves give a very poor first impression. When you open the the game for the first time you usually spend the first couple of minutes exploring menus and options, but here’s the problem with Dirty Bomb’s menus: they’re laggy as hell. They’re unoptimized and move slower than a turtle on molasses. Get in-game and everything is silky smooth, but getting there is a laggy nightmare.

If I had never played Dirty Bomb before and had just downloaded it from Steam I would immediately think negatively of the game “Oh that’s why it’s still in beta”. I would hope this would be a minor fix but there has ALWAYS been at least some sort of laggy menu crap since I started playing. It’s never been completely fixed. The most recent culprit: everything with CMM. SD please, spend some time optimizing your menus, it’s embarrassing.

You must be playing on Grandmas PC with a hamster running on a wheel to keep your integrated graphics powered, because menus are incredibly responsive on my gaming PC, and on my parents Best Buy premade PC.

You must always be lagging on your crappy pc if you don’t notice how terribly optimized db’s main menu is.

You obviously didn’t take the time to read my post because the game it self is silky smooth on high everything but menus lag the heck out. It’s optimization it has nothing to do with my machine.

Wow relax salt it was just a joke about the hamster wheel thing, no need to be so uptight because someone thought differently than you, But seriously the UI is perfectly fine and responsive on 3 PCs in my home. I think its your computer.

Op has got a point, but when you look at games like PUBG the whole freakin game lags! Including menus that are super sluggish. …yet there are thousands playing dat sh*t

PUBG is already a popular game. DB on the other hand has barely any players, which is already a red flag. An unoptimized interface in a big game isn’t that bad, because the game is already popular. But when it’s a small game like DB, it can impact the game a lot more

PubG is DayZ with no zombies and a smaller map.
DB is a different take on a common FPS that everyone knows.

You literally cannot compare them lmao

I dunno what laggy menus you’re talking about because mine run just fine. If you mean having to load data between some menus then oh, I see. But as for frame rate and responsiveness, mine is excellent.

(hawkeyeguy99) #9

Maybe it isn’t a global issue but it’s easy to see from other comments that it’s not just me that has only the menus lag. Particularly after a CMM match with the results screen. That is particularly awful.

What video and CPU hardware are you using? AMD or Intel/NVidia?

What OS?

What version?

Are your drivers up to date?

It could be a build issue that the devs haven’t optimized for. When dealing with technical issues, it’s helpful to have technical specs too.

Maybe put this in the Tech Issues forum with your build, OS, OS Version, and driver versions, instead of framing it as a “DB sucks” problem.

“My menus are really laggy, here’s my specs, what’s going on?” Good.
“My menus are really laggy your game sucks and this looks terrible to noobs.” Unhelpful

(frostyvampire) #11

It’s un-optimized but it depends on your specs.
My laptop has only a tiny bit of lag in the menu and my actual PC has no problem with it at all

Wrong again. It’s not even a problem FOR HIM. He probably couldn’t really care less about lag in his menu screens. It’s a problem FOR NEW PLAYERS because a laggy menu gives an awful first impression. Which you would know if you bothered to read the post you are replying to.

If the menu lags for some, which I haven’t experienced, then that’s something that needs to be fixed. It should not take high end hardware to smoothly navigate a UI.

And Yoshi, if you post one more semiliterate shill derailing thing on here, I will flame you like you have never been flamed before. Count on it. I don’t care if they ban me; doesn’t seem like this forum is read much anyway.

When you click things, there is always slowish respond. Respond time vary and feels time to time laggy. I can notice it especially when clicking slides from home screen, barracks… etc. It should be as fast responsiveness as writing letters in this forum. It was probably even slower or even bugged before. Startup time is also suspicious slow, it takes 26 seconds to launch game to home screen. My computer launches faster my firefox from complete shut down.

Wrong AGAIN, if YOU read the post you are replying to, you would see that bgyoshi wasnt talking about having high end hardware he was talking about giving specific data on specs, drivers, OS, and therefore pointing at the possibility of a technical issue, instead of A “DB Sucks” problem. Which you would know if you bothered to read the post you’re replying to.

I like the old UI more to be honest. Wish that came back. Keep it simple and intuitive, don’t hide words and buttons. That gives me a bad impression as a new player. As for the current menus, they aren’t as responsive as before and there’s some weird bugs and annoying popups to them.

#16

Let’s keep it cool in here. There is no need for such aggressive posts to prove your point.

Thanks!

(AlbinMatt) #17

I would agree, the older UI was much classier and clear. I don’t mind the gamemode picking tab, but the main menu stuff just looks pretentious without the box and borders. Really the only improvement I’ve seen is the games tab, and the friends list being on the bottom left. The HUD, for the most part, is still great, and the improvements to it are appreciated.

You clearly have no idea how coding works.

Hint: Just because it works perfectly on Windows 10 doesn’t mean it’ll work on Windows 7/Linux/iOS. Just because it works perfectly on one video card doesn’t mean it’ll work on another, etc etc etc etc

DB menus are actually seriously clunky, sure, they respond and they load stuff. But the current CMM and simply switching to the store tab or the barracks can play the sound, then half slowly instantly load. I totally see what OP is saying, and they should be improved upon.

I run a decent computer too, and have seen the screens load faster and much much slower on the crappier computers downstairs too. They are not balanced and consistent experiences for anyone. Period, having 3 different computers, all run the menus randomly at fast or slow speeds.

@bgyoshi

You are probably the most worthlessly low IQ poster I have ever seen. It’s not that you’re the dumbest; your stupidity is only modestly impressive. But you are persistent. You manage to pull even the most innocuous comments to the summit of Mount R e t a r d, every time, brown-nosing every step of the way.

Like here. We’re talking about a clunky UI that doesn’t perform consistently across different specs. Instead of just letting this mildest criticism pass, you’re Ewok tier dev worship heuristic interprets everyone else as not understanding that different software performs differently on different hardware. As with all of your other insights, this is so obvious everyone takes it for granted. Menus are responsive and smooth on most systems in most all AAA games, because despite your insipid point x explaining why some thing in this game is hard to improve because of insipid point y, that thing can still be improved, and in fact is perfected in most AAA games. Your drivel above is logically equivalent to replying to a thread titled: “This game stutters unplayably on my system, optimization needs work” with “lol idiot, the game runs different on different systems.” Yes, r e t a r d, we know, and it isn’t a defense.

Your childlike reflex to interpret all feedback as coming from bad faith makes you a blight. Stupid is as stupid does. Even very dim comments are usually just ignored. But pair your 105 IQ with reflexive aggression and a ‘Forest Gump goes to Law School’ oblivious condescension and you really can be less than worthless.
