Damn if you do, damn if you don't

Hi,

Ever had one of this dilemma:

I was running towards the back door in battery as a covop when a fight broke out by the back bunker. I charge forward and stepped on a mine, so I stood still. At that moment, the axis fieldop call an airstrike at my position. Should I stay or should I go … :bash:

I was laughing at myself after that.

Well, you were given a choice about who you want to give the kill to. Personally, I would have stayed and let the field ops have it. The lower the enemy engineer’s XP, the better. Field ops will make L4 in 20 minutes anyway, might as well let him take 3 more XP.

Incorrect. I’ve always thought that NEVER EVER give field ops XP, because when they get to level 3 = two airplanes + enhanced artillery and all your reasoning and counting of shells go to crap. I’ve been hit on the second round of aircraft bombing many times becasue I thought the barrage was over. Where engineers just waste their XP on a Flak Jacket that doesn’t do too much help. Of course, they do get the bonus of being able to build faster, but it’s not that big of a deal. :moo:

You get a warning when the field ops has two planes. When you see smoke, listen. If you hear two planes, you’ll know there’ll be two strikes. An engineed with L3 is dangerous, though. They can plant 4 dynamites one right after the other. Engineers have to work for XP, field ops get it fast anyway. When I play field ops, I hardly ever throw an airstrike until I get L2. I get L2 in 10 minutes just dropping ammo, I get L3 soon after that with artillery and ammo. One kills makes little difference.

This is when you hit hit /kill.

(weasel) #6

If I ran a server, I’d ban you for that.

(amazinglarry) #7

errr… ok… I guess this is where you drop a grenade in front of you and blow your own ass up then.

(weasel) #8

If you know you’re about to die, you don’t suicide to deny the other team the xp that they have earned. That’s not how the game was meant to work. It is perfectly within your right to decide who you want to let kill you if you’re about to die, though.

(amazinglarry) #9

I understand that’s not the way the game was meant to work. And if somebody is using the /kill command in the middle of firefights, that’s one thing… but if they’re hopelessly dead without direct contact to another player then I don’t see the problem in commiting suicide. Why help out the opposing team?

Like I said it’s one thing to me, if one is in the middle of a firefight and they’re going to lose… that’s just retarded… but if you have time to think about death by landmine or airstrike, then why not just toss a grenade at yourself…

The only time I’ve /killed myself while being shot at is when I was at the allied command post as Axis on Fuel Dump and allies planted the fuel dump, and naturally there were no engineers, so with 5 seconds before the next spawn I changed my class to a engineer and as I was /killing myself someobdy started shooting at me, then called me a lamer “cause you were gonna lose the fight, you’re a fag.”

A bit off topic but… he wasn’t there when I made the decision.

Sorry to go a little off topic there but with regard AmazinGLarry and the grenade thing, sometimes whenever I see someone stop dead in their tracks, drop a grenade at their feet, say “goodbye” in whatever language, vanish in a boom and a puff only for you to hear “Ah sehr gut”/“wooohoooo” on the astral plane, it just cracks me up totally :blah: :blah: :blah:

There is a 7 page thread dedicated to this possible problem. Look up at “Please Nerf /kill”

Apparently not too many people think this can actually be used as a strategy :???:

So would you be happy if everytime you were just about to kill someone after a firefight they /kill out to deny you the XP/kill? I bet not.

It’s no different to /kill when stepping on a mine. An engineer has put himself at risk to lay that mine, and obviously outwitted you in the process. He deserves his kill for that.

I don’t know if you can class it as cheating, but it’s certainly bad sportsmanship. It’s just not cricket old chap.

(kotkis) #13

On public I’d step off the mine and revard the engineer, on clan war I’d hit /kill.

(Pamper) #14

They could change this in the game code. Make it so that when you /kill, the enemy who most recently damaged you gets some XP. Or maybe the enemy who is standing nearest to you. Whichever.

This has been all through in another thread.
