Damage fall off why was it ever put in et

we are at a point were a mod maker has removed the ET damage fall off with a cvar. I am not a big fan of this. i am posting here today in the hopes that some one from SD can give me clear concise reason why damage fall off was put into et in the first place.

Here’s another (related) thought: Considering the state of falloff damage in etmain 1.0 it can be argued that the “corrected” 20% damage is incorrect: after all it was never lower than 60% when SD playtested ET.

The increased distance in ET compared to RtCW meant we were headshotting each other from miles away with the Sten, to the point where nobody wanted to use any other weapon.

Go play RtCW on one of the more open maps, like Assault and you’ll see why.

SMG headshots from 50million miles away.

But if someone wants to remove damage fallof or give admins the ability to remove it then what is the problem? Isn’t that what mods are all about - changing the game.
