Yes to both Dead Space and RA3. I’ve put a couple of hours into Dead Space so far (most of it last night) and am quite impressed, there’s a distinct system shock vibe to it (which doesn’t surprise me, as rumours indicate that it was for a while going to be SS3), the decapitation system is a nice addition - I’ve found myself perpetually aiming low so I can take off legs.
The zero g and space sections are both particularly well done, the space / vacuum areas do awesome things to the sound (all the audio is muffled, making it feel like it’s vibrations through the suit rather than actual sounds). I feared the zero g would be disorientating and to be honest, it is - but the constant change of angles isn’t too hard to deal with though combat can get a bit tough as enemies are harder to track.
RA3 is pure over the top cheese, which is awesome - the FMVs are amusing and not actually as terrible as I feared they might be, just don’t go in expecting anything above Michael Bay. The gameplay is pretty standard RTS (well, C&C) fare, I’ve only done a few of the russian missions so far but the units are amusingly weird (armoured bears, apcs that fire troops out of giant cannons, the list goes on).
I tend not to play RTS games online, as the hardcore RTS players that destroy you in about 3 minutes ruin my turtle tactics and I suspect the same will be true of RA3 (especially considering how fast it is).
I’ve also found some time to put in to the F sequels, but only a couple of hours of the african one so far - it’s well, assassins creed in first person form so far, but my understanding is that with a bit more time it does expand out into a bit more.
8 hours has gone into Fallout 3, which has barely scratched the surface for adventuring, but I’ve done my share of raider killing and I think I’m in love with how well VATS works. I’ve not done much of the storyline so far, preferring instead to wander around doing random missions for the peoples of megaton (and elsewhere).
I’ve probably put the most time into Fable 2, I’m enjoying being a colossally evil, corrupt human being who has happily gotten married only to sacrifice his new wife (and new born babe) about 2 minutes later (the time it took to take her to the marital home, make the baby then run to the temple of shadow with her in tow). I proceeded to return to her village and kill everyone who lived there, just for not being nice enough to give me wedding presents really.
But now I need to turn my attention to yet another sequel (Gears) and techno-babble galore with End War (“unit 3, attack hostile 4”), damn the fact that I work most weekends…
