Currently Hurling Controllers/Mice At... Space, Pew Pew, and Shotgun Heels

[drupal=590]Currently Hurling Controllers/Mice At… Space, Pew Pew, and Shotgun Heels[/drupal]

Here it is, the latest installment of our regular look at what games we’ve been playing here at Splash Damage. Somewhat predicably, Mass Effect 2 is the talk of the town/office this week, and it’s garning high praise all around.
Less predictably, the other big gaming story this week is after extensive and no doubt harrowing training sessions, our IT magicians Ben ‘Randles’ Hopkinson and Joe ‘Rex-theGrunt’ Gibson at long last stand victoriously at the very top of Pixeljunk Shooter (right). Or more specifically, the leaderboard for the first stage of episode 1 after somehow squeezing 311,500 points out of the thing. Watching them play is a bit like watching two brain surgeons go about their business simultaneously - it’s all very precise, meticulously coordinated, and probably supremely confusing to onlookers. Our metaphorical hats are off to them.
Now, Mass Effect 2 isn’t the only thing in our trays, of course. Read to see what else we managed to get our thumbs on:

what do you guys see in bayonetta? it sells quite good and obviously there’s sth in it, but i tried the demo and always ended up thinking “wtf just happened?”

i especially like jRAD review for ME2.

Is it a game? Is it a movie? Whatever it is, Mass Effect 2 is great! The character depth is awesome and engaging. The story is immersive and personal. No suprises. How could this game be anything except at the top of your play lists?

nice post… I really want ME2 now, lol… I want it so badly, lol… O_o

Pixel junk shooter is awesome

i will get my bro in on perfection when he gets back! your score is going down! :stuck_out_tongue:

sure.
they invent new genre, called, “uinteractive FPS/TPS soap opera with portions of quest and rpg gamplay”. but i vote more for Farenheit creators approach or even something purely machinima-alike[this not arrive to market, until GFX hardware become capable to generate 2D/3D content procedurally, fast enough]
at least until they try to promote its as RPG.
which is more or less acceptable for TESIV, but looks weird in ME1/ME2 case.

badman, great feature!

I haven’t had a chance to play ME2 yet, but I hear it is phenomenal. I hope that Bioware can somehow bring ME3 to us in a mulitplayer co-op form. It is the obvious next step, though I don’t deny the challenges in making it so.

I’ve been playing a lot of BF:BC2 demo, but it has a weakness. Unless you have full teams, and your teammates don’t just trash the vehicles, it isn’t much fun. Those are two variables that are completely out of the typical developers’ and gamer’s (or at least my) control. Even active communities can only get together in large numbers so often, and you can never stop the noobs or griefers (on XBL anyway) completely. 8v8 is about as big as most game need be. TF2 is another example of a game that is best played with 8v8 max, imo.

thats what i sayd in my recent Crysis Wars reviews - [good]map design is ESSENTIAL 4 success.
especially if game have no [customizable]complex objectives, no[usable]SDK and no decent game modes “in box”[C&H in BF/CW/CS just suxx as 10 years ago].
