WaW does improve, but only slightly - at no point does it really reach the same level of excellence as CoD4 maintained (essentially) throughout. Admittedly, I was playing it purely as a form of dogged punishment (ie, on veteran - for the 'chieves) so my view of the entire thing is covered with a veil of rage and blood. But the story isn’t as interesting as it is in CoD4 (there’s no real over arching plot other than that of the war itself… which has been done to death a thousand times till sunday).
Though there are some nice set pieces (arsing about on the turrets in “Black Cats” is good fun) but overall, it’s a bit of a “meh” - I didn’t even hang around for much MP. Though the coop is entertaining, so might be worth going down that route instead if you can find some peoples to play regularly with.
I’ve enjoyed my time with PoP, not entirely convinced by the new mechanic of having Elika save you at every error (at least Sands let you fail completely by running out of… well, sand) - the combat is nice, but after the first few healed fertile grounds the enemies just end up blocking everything, so you never get into a decent flow of combo moves and instead end up just battering them to the edge and one hitting them. Good fun none the less!
Welcome to 2008’s final edition of Currently Hurling, but not to worry, we’ll be back in full force next year. While Prince of Persia was the major release of last week, most of us still way too swamped with other things and Fallout to even contemplate playing it. Luckily there won’t be any major releases for the next few weeks, giving us some much needed breathing room to work our way through everything.
