A new blog entry has been added:
[drupal=438]Currently Hurling Controllers / Mice At… Clashing Zenos[/drupal]

Hello and welcome to another edition of Currently Hurling, our semi-regular look at what we’ve been playing lately here at Splash Damage. New releases are still few and far between, though independent game Zeno Clash has managed to make a rather lasting impression around these parts. Let’s have Ed explain why, shall we?
Ed ‘BongoBoy’ Stern (Senior Game Designer):
Zeno Clash: just trying to describe this game is itself something of a psychedelic dream sequence. One suddenly finds oneself being stared at in fascinated horror as previously unconnected syllables tumble from one’s lips. “Look, the Chicken-Head guy is throwing skulls at me”, “See how the blind sniper hurls squirrels on parachutes and they have barrels of gunpowder on their back?” etc.

I’m still enjoying slinging digital crack in chinatown, but I’ve found that I’m doing that more than I am following the story missions - I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not! Besides that, I’ve had some quality time with Mr Fiddy Cent mopping up some blood on the sand while taking down a fraternity of assassins in Wanted. There’s been some old sega classics (damn Dr Robotnik and his Mean Bean Machine! Damn him!) thrown in briefly too and I intend to spend a bit of my weekend finishing off my collection of 1000 pointed lego games with the complete saga.

I have to throw some money at my PC to get a 3rd party GPU cooler before I can continue enjoying DoW2, which is a tad irritating, but rather a cool GPU and pretty games than ugly games and a roasting GPU.

I really enjoyed Fiddy Cent (though I’m not sure how many other people did) - it’s such a fantastic guilty pleasure. How is Wanted?

It’s on the short side (took about 4 hours to get through it on normal + getting about 95% of the collectables) - but the action is enjoyable, the cover system works nicely (it’s a lot like gears, with one button getting you into cover and then allowing you to move between cover points). The bulleting curving can be useful for digging enemies out of cover and it’s easy enough to do that it doesn’t take long before you’re happily curving bullets all over the shop.

I’d rate it up there with fiddy, as it shares a lot of traits - but the playable character isn’t quite as annoying (and you don’t have to get over playing as fiddy if you aren’t a fiddy fan). Worth a rent for a weekend, that’s for sure.

I shall have to check it out - thanks for the review :slight_smile:

I’ve not finished GTA:CW yet, infact I’ve still not finished GTAIV either. Enjoying both of them immensely but just haven’t got the time to put some serious hours in. Incidentally, I picked up Max Payne 1&2 on Steam for £8.99. Forgot how much I loved those games way back when.

If you’ve got a PS3, you should really try to pick up an Asia version of Demon’s Souls. One of the best RPG games I’ve played in a long time. Look it up.

badman you’ve still not challenged me yet at DoW II. I’m waiting!

I very nearly bought it today, actually, though I’m thinking I should probably get a PC first - laptops and games don’t seem to get along too well. ;o

That one looks very interesting. Thanks for the tip! If you don’t mind me asking, where did you pick up your copy? If I can help it I’d rather not use eBay for games, with the exception of SNES goldies of course :smiley:
