Why would the match making be based off of XP rank? That wouldn’t make much sense. I’m thinking more about w/l and maybe a slight tilt variable in kills/xp to help good players escape an “ELO Hell”. Otherwise I’d never expect hours played to be relative at all. This is all about skill match making- same as in most other games that have it.
Current patch Time To Kill (TTK)
and I answer absolutely not cause it’s really easier with a low TTK to camp the obj ! so it’s defense biased with a low TTK
then after I said the spawnkill it’s also easier … (please learn to read before answer … )
Reading isnt the problem here
Bracket system only way to do it as W/L and KD is only relative to who you play eg if match making was perfect everyone would be 50/50 WL bads and good
XP wont work, play time wont work and Kills wont work… Maybe Acc, headshot ratio and Kills Per Minute are they only things I can think of. K/d also…
I do find this odd at times as well. In discussing other games with many of you folks, especially those who mostly played RTCW and ET, it does seem like tracking was the only thing considered a skill with regards to weapons. There tends to be a lot of dismissal of flick shots, pre-firing, spread and recoil control, reflexes, stance management etc. All things that I know have been highly valued in other equally successful competitive games.
I value all those skills. Even well timed nades…
Wins are more important than anything. You can win without getting a ton of kills or a good k/d though. A high skill player would easily be able to carry their team on a ladder system if they were proficient at doing objectives and getting kills, which is the best combination there is. Wins should be the raw factor, but both XP earned and kills would definitely be considerable sway variables. Ladder systems also make farming attempts pretty unattractive since you can only survive higher up by earning it legitimately or you get roflstompped.
I have to strongly disagree I could care less about winning… Pubbing Objective based games RTCW, ET and BF3 I could care less about winning. I was working on aim, line of sight, control and just flat out raging people. The perfect example was BF3 I only cared about kills with certain gun to level. Pubbing ET was all about Kills in the pubs. ET was a fast enough game though that the OBJ was basically on the way to raging face. However sometimes it wasnt and people with skill could rage behind the line and just wreck spawns. You can be the best player in the world and put with 7 other noobs and still get rolled every time…
if you dont play the obj then play TDM …
in obj games the only goal is the obj done ! if you don’t care then change game mode …
Perhaps we could leave the “how to calculate skill” topic for the relevant thread and get back on-topic, which is TTK.

False, You can ride the RV while I am having fun. And ET and RTCW didnt have TDM. I personal hate TDM. People popping up out of know where and getting a good shot on you. Consistent back rage and running in circles. The best modes to rack up a ton of kills is an SW or OJB based server where you know where everyone should be and coming from. Always running at the action. Plus its a pub; who cares what other people do.
Whats the point right now anyway other then venting on the forums there is no one playing the game to take daily frustrations out on!
I’ve got to disagree with your general opinion on this one spook…what you’re talking about is exactly a deathmatch and the best place for it is certainly not an objective based game. I would be willing to wager a LOT of the rage you got (or caused) in ET and RTCW is because you were deathmatching and not playing objective. Frankly it just ruins the game experience, ESPECIALLY when you admit you don’t care about winning, only running around and killing. 1 person not playing objective can easily make your team lose and most people playing the objective oriented games are there to win as a team, not lose because 1 guy wants to deathmatch. That’s why people care. It spoils the game experience for them. That’s not an point you can argue dude.
Mind you, given our current situation here in alpha I don’t begrudge you running around and having some fun until things get in a more manageable state…but I would have raged HARD had you been on my team doing that in ET or ETQW-that would have been an insta-ban on my servers. Just sayin…

Like said just before people like you are just ruining the objective game …
even in pub there is team play ! this is only an excuse for you to say “PUB”
You dont care about team play, so lone wolf like you need to play TDM.
but even in Team Death Match there is the word “Team” maybe you dont care but others do !

Im the person that makes people /quit pubs. If you think about it I do play OBJ because I am mostly found around spawns and spawn killing. You are probably a player that hates spawn killers… The best clans in the game are the best spawn killers since it only takes one person to move an RV or to plant Dyno. So you are the 1! The other 7 are the many…
Not caring about pub dynamics sort of defeats the entire purpose of the discussion really… comp matches are won by team work though. I’ve seen many a team that has better shooters and still loses. Obviously a combination of both skills is the best.
Of course the entire “who cares about pubs, it’s just about top fragging” is the exact issue that match making attempts to fix. If you can make pubs function in more balanced player groups then it becomes more of a mock comp match or pug, but obviously it’s still a pub. Everyone enjoys it more and it makes for much more epic and fun games.
Spawnkilling - legitimate (essential) tactic in comp, no place in pub. A lot of comp players assume all pub players just want to run around and play TDM, love spam weapons and don’t care about teamwork. Of course there are players in this category but a lot like myself still want the objective-based play but without the serious commitment to matches, practice sessions etc. otherwise we’d all be playing QL etc. I used to play TDM comp btw. back in the mists of time for Q2, and a brief stint at (very, from our clan TFA’s point of view ;)) low-level comp for W:ET.
back on topic…
now ive played a lot more. i have to say ttk is much too fast. almost instant in a lot of cases.
