Crash when adding favorites

(frozen) #1

Well. A few days ago, prior to the master server list issue, I had about 10 or so servers in my favorites list. Then, I started getting those crashes when you viewed the ingame server list. Well. I noticed several things happened when the game crashed:

  1. My SYSTEM settings were reset. For example, no longer was I playing the game at 1024x768, but, now, at 800x600. Each crash, afterwards, I’d have to fix all my settings.

  2. My favorite servers list disappeared… somewhere.

On top of my favorite servers list having gone… ‘away’, I am no longer able to even add any favorites. I’ll check that box in the server list, and crash. I’ll need to fix all my settings after the crash.

I’ve tried while actually playing on the server itself, eg: ESC->Server Info->Add favorite. Still crashes.

These crashes are new. They weren’t happening several days ago. When ET crashes, the screen just turns black and the ET window disappears. I’m left with a console telling me that ET received a Signal 11 (which is the SIGSEGV signal).

Frequently, in complement to the above, are several error messages about the location of files (“image shaders” and other things) not being found. Though, this is often not the case.

I’m running the Linux version of ET, if that makes a difference. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

you need to delete your servercache.dat files since its corrupted to stop the crashes., unfortuneately it will also delete your favorites.

Since I’ve no favorites to lose (note above that I lost them anyway…) such is not a problem.

Though, I recall deleting that file yesterday and finding that the problem was not so easily solved. I will try it though. Thanks

Okay, I’ve just tried this and it did not provide a solution to the crashes I’m experiencing. When attempting to add a favorite, the game exits with signal 11.

since a few days I have exactly the same problem, as soon as I trie to add a new server to my favorites ET crashes. Never happened before and I just deleted the servercache file but that didn’t fix it.

Okay, I’m not the only one. So, is anyone else experiencing this issue? Or does anyone know how to solve it? Thanks.

I’m having this problem right now as well - for about six weeks or so. I had the exact same problem several months ago, but it eventually fixed itself somehow. Deleting the servercache file did NOT work.

There’s a servercache.dat both in etmain and in each profile directory (for all MODs). Which one did you delete?

Obviously the wrong one, because now it works. Hehe. Thank you.

This file you speak of does not exist for me…

[frozen@home ~/.etwolf/etmain]$ pwd
/home/frozen/.etwolf/etmain
[frozen@home ~/.etwolf/etmain]$ ls -l | grep .dat
-rw-r--r-- 1 frozen users 381 Apr 30 13:37 hunkusage.dat
[frozen@home ~/.etwolf/etmain]$

I’ve solved this problem now. I simply renamed the ‘.etwolf’ directory. Then, I ran ET and setup my profile and game information. I moved my MODs over from the old etwolf directory, into the new one. I restarted ET, view the server list, and added several favorites.

Yay.
