crash issue

(NovaPrime) #1

Server: Linux, hosted
Mod: etpub 0.9.1, with LUA
Engine: et300 0.7

My server is crashing 2-3 times a day. I don’t really know when it started because I just recently started playing more, and noticed it.

I thought maybe it was the etpub nightly, so I switched to 0.9.1 stable release, and still the same thing. I removed all of my lua scripts except the auto promote script, also tried various engines (eteng, et300, etded…etc) and still crashes once in a while. I was using latest omnibot 0.82 and tried reverting back to 0.81…still crashes randomly according to the server !uptime command.

The error in log kind of looks like it might be a hardware issue?

Have u tried without omnibots at all?

(Micha) #3

Which mapscripts do you use? Any customs?
Try to find out if it always crashs on the same map (could be a mapscript error).

I would try to make a fresh installation with newest etpub files.

@ Domagoj
I will remove the omnibots over night and see what happens

@ Micha
There are no custom scripts.
The only etpub map scripts I see are in the etpub client under “maps” folder. Question, should I put these on server also? In the MapScriptDirectory?

Thanks!

I think the omnibots are somehow crashing it, i remember back few years ago, that whenever my server was crasing it was cuz of omnibots…

(Mateos) #6

If the crashes are gone after uninstalling OB please contact crapshoot through PM here, he’s in charge of it

(NovaPrime) #7

well, I turned off OB and it still crashes randomly. So I am nuking the server and starting over.

Where can I find updated lua binaries? I downloaded latest etpub and also 9.1 but do not see any binaries. I think the original 8.1 had them, but it’s been a long time.

(NovaPrime) #8

oops found the lua binaries so nvm. Ok, I reinstalled server clean, etpub 1.0, no omnibots. I will know tomorrow morning if that did the trick.

(NovaPrime) #9

logged in this morning and !uptime reported server has only been up for 43 minutes. So looks like my server is crashing and restarting still.

So I have a couple questions:

  1. is there anything that impacts the !uptime duration, like map changes? Shouldn’t this be how long the entire server has been online?

  2. I am only running classic 6 maps. Should I put the map scripts located in etpub client, into the “MapScriptsDirectory” located on the server, or just leave that server-side folder empty? I have always had them in there, but I am not sure if I need them. When installing etpub, it does not add any map scripts to that directory. So is this a client-only thing?

(NovaPrime) #10

not sure why, but the problem for me turned out to be the lua qagame binary. I swapped it for the non-lua binary and the server is stable. I will probably report to etpub team.
