CPU = 100% during games....... causing emmmmmmm Lag?

(_NeT_WalBanger) #1

Right for last few weeks/months now i have been getting REALLY bad lag in game (but it wasnt the servers as its on EVERY server)

With the Lag meter on it shows Green spike on the BOTTOM line and if i keep my key pressed (i.e w=forward) it stays there and the game is really jerky/jumpy…
If i let go of all my buttons the lag goes, so in games/clan matchies ill be playing and then all of a sudden i start lagging and i have to jump forward and let go of all the keys then as i land start to move forward again (this gets rid of the lag im getting)

I used to think it was my Broad band provider, but im not sure it is now :???:

Well today i had task manager open and i noticed when i started ET up the cpu went to 100% and stayed there even before i joined a server (the music screen, menu)

Here is screen shot of what i was getting:-

Now i havent got a shit computer so its got to be something else… Plz help :frowning:

Specs:-
CPU= AMD 3200+ Barton core
RAM= 2gig XMS corsair ram
Graphics= 128mg Gforce fx5900
21" CRT monitor (dont think that make a difference…)

This is what i mean by the lag meter… that faint green will stay there till i let go of all the keys…

  • you can see tyhe 100%% cpu again

HELP!!! :’(

P.s I only usual have Ventrillo + MSN running in background…

In the above screen shots i had NOTHING running not even msn or vent…

I have no idea if the is ET/software/hardware related (prity sure its not a virus, done some digging in my registary etc looking and found nothing Weird)

Sounds like ETPro anti-warp, and would indicate packetloss and/or unstable ping.

I don’t think 100% cpu load is abnormal.

so how do i sort that then?

and while your here… whats the html code foe your avatar that changes your pic plz :smiley:

This probably wont help, but I have Norton AntiVirus, and when I put of the ccApp.exe file my ET smooths out a lot. Sure I lose Virus protection, but I still got my Sygate Firewall running…so no worries.

(Domipheus) #7

make sure you do not have some sort of key-logger running in the background.

(Sauron|EFG) #8

Run Pingplotter (freeware) to a server to see if it’s caused by a bad connection.

Google is your friend
:stuck_out_tongue:

Lol, if 100% CPU load would mean terrible lag, I couldn’t even connect to the server :smiley: And I can play very well!

(DG) #10

games use every bit of cpu available to it.

the ‘ghosting’ on the lagometer is from ETPro antilag - they changed the lagometer in 3.1.0 to show when antilag was happening. The problem stopping when you stop moving confirms this.

Something is causing connection problems, unfortunately you’re no closer to finding out what. ISP? Router? software?

  1. I’d probably start by trying to find a non-PB server,
  2. make sure nothing is running in the background, or curious services listed in Task Manager.
  3. virus scan (AVG is decent and free) and adware scan (AdAware and/or Spybot, both free), if only because they’re cost free and relatively painless.

just to add to DG’s post, i would also recommend you use something like hijackthis to search for weird programmes … just be careful what you delete with hijackthis as it displays ALL programmes (legitimate or otherwise) that have suspect behaviour

anti-spy.info is better, but the free version is only a 30 trial :frowning:

ok thanks guys…

I have Norton Anti virus pro…

  • Spyweeper on…

So not really a virus or spyware…

he ‘ghosting’ on the lagometer is from ETPro antilag - they changed the lagometer in 3.1.0 to show when antilag was happening. The problem stopping when you stop moving confirms this.

Its not really that i “stop moving” i stop pressing the buttons for a split seconds while in the air and as i hit the ground press forward again… so im still moving in the air as i jumped…
Does that still count?

(DG) #13

ok, let me move straight to #1 things to do being

  1. disable norton AV while playing
  2. disable spysweeper while playing
  3. continue down previous list - including actually scanning computer with the norton and adaware etc. (with updated definiations)
