Copying .PK3 Files

(schmeisser) #1

Excuse my ignorance in advance. I burned a CD copy of my entire etmain file on my work computer, with all the various custom maps, skins, etpro, patches, etc, and tried to overwrite the etmain file on my home computer to get all these maps. (56k modem at home makes downloading maps a nightmare) NFG. Even if I try to copy 1 .pk3 file at a time, I get the following message:

“Cannot copy file. Windows is unable to find the file. This item might already have been deleted or moved. Press F5 to refresh the view of this folder.”

My goal is to copy some of the new maps and explore them at home before trying them out multiplayer via my work DSL connection. What am I doing wrong here? Once a map is copied to etmain, will it appear in the Host a Server list, or do I have to start custom maps from the ~ console somehow?

I have no idea what your first problem is about - is that referring to the folder on the CD, or on the HD? Maybe drive doesn’t like it - do other burned CD’s work, or do you have another drive you could try the CD with? On another computer?

But yeah, the maps do show up on the list automatically.

You’ve fucked the burn up.

Reburn it, but this time, make sure its on Data and just shove em directly into the CD, dont bother copying ALL the dirs. Depending what your using it should just be a case of drag and dropping the map .pk3 files from your /etmain/ and /etpro/ directory then copying them off the CD. Would advise using Nero 5.x+ if you aint already…
