coortinates for chats... ugh

(bani) #1

Please give us the option for rtcw-style location in the chats and the fireteam hud. The coordinate system is just annoying.

maybe an option for “verbose location” (rtcw style) and “coordinate location” (et style) ?

(DJ_Art) #2

I agree with that.

The new system might look more like a “military” style, but it’s totally annoying.

In RtCW I was playing like a medic and I was depending more on the location displayed next to the teamchat than the compass.

For example, I was getting a “Medic! (Trench Toast)” and I immediately jumped from Upper base downwards to revive the man :>
Now, I see a “Medic (H,2)” and scratch my head :>

The new style of map cords is a little annoying at first but now im used to it is much better as you can quickly like at your big map (pressing g key) or zoom further out with your compass. Also telling your team to meet you at G4 is alot easier for me.

On rtcw there were a lot of maps which would mean remembering 100’s of different locations.

I believe that it is easier to remember where is the Upper Base, the Trench Toast, the Wine Cellar, the Staircase, the Allies stronghold, the north tunnels, the south tunnels, the train depot, the radar, the back wharehouse and so on …

rather than remembering where is G4, A5 and H2.

Because the names are descriptive. If you are an experienced player and quit playing for 2 months and then get back to RtCW, you will easily find Radar 01, Radar 02 and Main Wharehouse.

Now, imagine 10 different maps for ET. G4 means absolutely nothing!

Because anyway, when I will play ET with my clan (organized), with this system I will have to write down to a paper for each map the most important places and their coordinates (for example link H2 with the Cave Doors). And put this notebook in front of me and change page every time we change map!

Yes I know, this is realistic, this is probably what soldiers did (building charts and keeping them together with the map to make it easier for them), but we’re talking about a game here :>

I know what your saying but it takes about 5 seconds to look at your g map.

As i said though remembering all the stock map locations can get annoying nevermind all the custom maps like:-

Nightraid
Blackaus
MitchelDown
The River
Tundra
Ice
Frostbyte
Fun Beach 2
POW Escape
Murderhill
Bankraid 2
X Lab
Normandy Breakout
Hydro Dam
Toxicity
Heavy Water
Valhalla
The Interception

As well as many other maps i cant remember

(pack) #6

oh, you get used to that, to everything…

B6/C6 is the door in that building…

Allies should try at start to move straight forward from E2 to E4, maybe taking D4 as well. I believe Axis most of the time respond with some move to E5, whereafter allies can place reinforcements from G1 to F3.

You get used to that :moo:

(Vengeance) #7

I think the trick to this is just do both.

Also when i say meet at G4 or werever that person checks there map and then navigates to that area. I didnt mean they would be like “oh yeah, Good ol G4, i remember that place”.

  • your cords are always shown on the fireteam so you know if your going in the right direction

(bani) #8

my point is that they should give players a choice for either old rtcw style or et’s coordinate system.

you people are arguing against choice?

(DJ_Art) #9

ET is a fast-paced multiplayer game.

And when I’m a medic (or whatever else class) 5 seconds is too much important time. for 5 seconds I might lose reinf. time or I may even lose my life :>

(Vengeance) #10

Let me put it in more obvious terms.

I know your not gonna check your map in a firefight, im saying you check your map when you are fairly sure its safe to do so.

Also if you have never got 5 seconds to spare how do you communicate to your team.

Also if you read my last post - the trick is enable both ways

I agree, I like the RTCW system better. The other thing is that the grid system doesn’t work at all for highly vertical maps. If mp_beach were an ET map, the upper bunker and war room would be the same location  The ducts would not be identified, and the radio room would be the same as murder hole.

While this might not be too much of a problem of fuel dump, it is extremely limiting for mappers.

The the RTCW system is also much easier to learn IMHO, assuming the map designer came up with decent names. The RTCW system has variable resolution too. The whole beach area can be identified as beach, while the tiny area that is the ducts can also be identified.

(Vengeance) #12

On this point i am in total agreement with you, however, im sure Splash Damge as already thought of this.

And ppl tend to create there own names for certain places e.g. the sewers on fuel dump.

(bani) #13

actually it already is a problem on fueldump. you dont know if players are inside the fueldump building or on top of it.

(Dragon) #14

I agree that both options should be included. Bring back the names…

Eg Depot Gate (H4) is better than just plain old H4
(Not that i know what co-ords the Depot Gate is)

(Pippi) #15

That’s a scary thought.

And on assault you wouldn’t be able to see if your teammates are defending the garage or the tower…
