Conversation with gamer at work.....

(1234567) #1

I was talking with a fellow gamer at work about upcoming PC titles and I asked him if he was going to buy Brink. He said…

“Never heard of it. What kind of game is it?”

Seriously, can you believe that? I guess there are some people that live under a rock.

(Herandar) #2

Yes. It’s actually quite a common complaint around here.

(Mustkunstn1k) #3

Brink seems to indeed be a game that only the hardcore are aware about. I hope that in the coming weeks that will be changed with more footage on gaming sites, ads on TV / Internet etc.

(Seyu) #4

Gaming sites are already full of Brink advertisements, I think they’ll need to put an ad on TV to get the masses.

(DarkangelUK) #5

I’m an avid cinema goer, a few of the big names last year we well advertised at the cinemas for big movies.

(Nex) #6

Its good for Brink not to get mainstream players, like the developers said, they are just plain stupid…

(DouglasDanger) #7

Yes, but if it doesn’t sell, it won’t get support or DLC or a sequel or anything.

(Beermachine) #8

From what I understand, Splash aren’t targetting mainstream online FPS players, which lets face it have been corrupted by kill steaks, personal glory, Ohk’s, stats of everything including number of teabaggings etc and are divided between the COD / BF / MW / next generic FPS camps already, but mainstream single player FPS gamers (a massive market) with a streamlined interface, good bots etc to try to ease them into the joys of good multiplayer.

A bold plan, and given that there are a wealth of single player people who dont multi due to there being so many complete tards out there but have good aim, know the meaning of teamwork and most importantly arn’t tards themselves I sincerely hope it works.

Actually, I have been surprised by the amount of people on xbox live who have heard of Brink. I think the real problem is that they know so little about it.
Everyone who i have talked to seems to think that it is Mirrors edge with guns and custimisation.

(LyndonL) #10

Actually it’s a kind of contemporary green vision set on this place called the Ark…

(crazyfoolish) #11

…which is an immense floating artificial city

(LyndonL) #12

Floating? Ooo… And they have these things called Splicers…

(1234567) #13

I know! If I hear that guy say that one more time… LOL.

I agree that no one wants more people with the standard “mainstream fps gamer” attitude. but were gonna get those guys regardless. On top out of all the fears I have for this game not being the dynamo it should be is poor advertising. I have been in many retail stores that have the pre-order, game shops, the most hard core of computer shops, and even my 200+man gaming clan, NONE of them have heard about it untill I inform them about it; hello best buy game floor rep, I’m looking to pre-order brink, “brink? never heard of it is it a game or something?, you sure we offer it?” Its like this every where I go.
Its one thing not to target “mainstream gamers” its another to keep it a secret from the general public.

By trying to avoid the “mainstream fps gamer” they are also hiding the game from new and casual gamers, the “mainstream fps gamer” doesn’t even reside primary on the PC, they are majority console people.
Aside from poor sales, you also get empty servers, less chance of new content and future development(as mentioned before)

things we need now and soon:
TV adds
Steam adds (if you really want this game to get good pc attention, make a TF2 hat pre-order for brink from steam)
In store and online playable demos

I have seen far too many extremely well made games fail before there time just because of poor PR and advertising.

(DouglasDanger) #15

They aren’t trying to avoid the mainstream fps gamer. The game doesn’t come out for two months. The media push should start sometime soon.

(trigg3r) #16

we’ve been saying that for a while now

(DouglasDanger) #17

Yes, I know. You have to look at it from the publisher’s POV. Look at the amount of games coming out and the amount of other stuff being advertised. If you advertise too early, people will forget about it and you will have wasted tons of your budget.

(Loffy) #18

But if it is floating, can they manouver it? I mean, then could try and reach land, to figur out why there haven’t been any radio contact for years. :penguin:

(Seyu) #19

To maneuver an entire city all over the world would require humongous resources, with the residents fighting for survival over the scant resources I doubt anyone would want to go on a world tour instead. Also, the Founders don’t want to contact anyone in the outside world.

(Otto) #20

Since it is floating, and doesn’t have a way of transporting itself across the ocean… what holds it into place? Sea current/waves and wind would slam it into a body of land eventually right…?
Unless… GASP! it’s secretly just the very top of an even bigger sunken city part of a lost content! DUN DUN DUNNNN! The Starting Point of “Brink 2: A Fathom Deep”(working title)
