Controllers.

(Shane) #1

I just bought a handheld Playstation-like PC controller to play with, and when I looked in the System section, I noticed there was nothing for controllers! Can we use them, or are they not implemented in the game?

I highly recommend either;

Belkin’s Nostromo SpeedPad

or

Thrustmaster’s Tacticalboard

…if you are looking for an alternative to the keyboard. (PC) Control pads just aren’t as efficient as the old standard, keyboard/mouse setup for FPS gaming IMO.

Learn to use keyboard+mouse.

And don’t use the wheel to select weapons :moo:

I find the wheel good for weap select, only because I don’t use the standard wasd keys to move. I use the arrow keys next to the numpad, and all the keys around it are binded to my various weaps… but I still use the wheel to select the weaps I don’t have binded.

And as for the use of other controllers than the keyboard/mouse, why would you want to? this is a pcgame, And the keyboard/mouse OWNZ!

I want to use the pedals of my Momo Force Wheel for sprinting and jumping!

I use the wheel all the time to select weapons, it’s a lot easier when you know the weapon you want is one slot away, like quick switching from pistol to panzerfaust. Although I know why you’re saying that, I always see noobie medics slowly scrolling through weapons to get to the needle.

I use the MS cheapie gamepad and I love it. I got ET to accept the buttons but it wouldn’t take the axis movements.

So I switched over to the old faithful: http://rbsoft.de/RB-Joy/rb-joy.html

Just wondering, you’re not Boo that plays on GK are ya?

/seta in_joystick 1, then configure your buttons in the in-game menu.

Post here, and someone may have a config for you.

Honestly, I haven’t seen anyone have much success with a gamepad alone. If you paired it with a trackball (to look around), you may do much better. I’ve seen quite a few use a Nostromo Speedpad and trackball combination with success. In [A3D], we all use a joystick/trackball combination of some kind (joystick for movement and the trackball to look around). Using a gamepad, joystick, racing wheel (j/k), or whatever by itself would make you a nice target for other players.
