Container city map

United Arab Emirates. They took their man made islands to the next level by merging it with the Burj Dubai.

They realised oil was nearly gone and cracked the sads with limited lifespan resources, so they built The Ark to try to start onselling renewable technologies.

lol, that would mean Haliburton was the contractor, and Dick Cheney finally ruled the world

For a singleplayer this a welcome development though, it means that the same places aren’t being recycled over and over again, it means there’s enough budget to keep providing the player with new environments as it goes through a scripted experience.

The opposite is true for multiplayer, a map that ‘evolves’ throughout the course of the match is incredibly fun as it calls for clever map control.

thus making the new guys get wasted all the time and giving up before they get to know the map.
not very new-player-friendly

Long term replayability trumps first day simpliicity.

(tokamak) #167

That would essentially be my response yeah Cankor.

(LyndonL) #168

… which is why Brink is so great. Play it “singleplayer” first to learn the “multiplayer map” and then play it online

(tokamak) #169

The map we’ve seen so far resembles the right picture better than the left one.

(Exedore) #170

Apples, meet Oranges!

(system) #171

Correct me, but I think it’s a mixture of those two.
There’s this main route, but thanks to SMART you should be able to reach many points aside from this route.
So the Containers are not just showing you where to go but you should be able to climb up and therfore at least smaller bodytypes have more routes.

(tokamak) #172

A few alternative routes don’t justify the stature that the right map has. The point of the right map is to show that maps used to be complex and open to multiple interpretation. Another example is Goldrush and Railgun, both maps dynamically changed as the battle progressed. Container City only goes one way.

(system) #173

Okay I see. think I got you wrong on your previous post. sry for that

(tokamak) #174

I swear your posts have a delay or something.

If you think comparing doom with Brink is ridiculous, then let’s compare two games (about to be) released within a shorter timespan. General aesthetics and details aside, just the layout:

(Exedore) #175

They do.

I was referring to the exaggerated comic that was posted, and I’m merely suggesting that looking at one aspect and magnifying it for effect does not necessarily give a complete picture.

(.Chris.) #176

Yeah, his post wasn’t there before for me either.

(tokamak) #177

Granted (the original blog also commented on how Doom had more freedom due to it’s higher level of abstraction something which wouldn’t be accepted any more). But I meant that your posts seem to appear later in the thread than the rest, I honestly keep missing them even though I swear I’ve read the whole thing until I posted. Or is this under mod-surveillance to ensure developers don’t accidentally break NDA?

(Nikto) #178

having 14 objectives would ofcourse present a bigger and more complicated map. on the other hand, what small group ever get’s 14 objectives they have to do in one day?

get there.
that means, pass the things that block the path, take the thing(or blow it up, whatever), get to the rendez-vous.

(tokamak) #179

Did you play W:ET by any chance?

(Spaiker) #180

As long as the maps are good for 8-8 with some interesting points, it 'll all be fine
