I believe it is rank 5 option that lets you see enemy locations for a short time.
Constructive Criticism on how to improve Brink. (Feel free to share your ideas)

Improve your team’s AI. They need to help with objectives. Having to do it all yourself against an entire enemy team trying to work on theirs is not fair. Sometimes I want to be a support member of the team, not constantly having to do everything myself because some ignoramus had a bright idea to break the game.

This is more for a future iteration than the current one, but use a female body type as the “light” model. People seem to be complaining about the lack of women. If the girl’s skinny anyways, just add small boobs and feminine versions of each face. They wouldn’t have to retexture anything on the body to fit the frame.

An encyclopedia, similar to what Dynasty Warriors has, with information on the events and characters in more depth than currently is offered.
My main problems right now:
[ul]
[li]Ping number in match! We’re not console gamers, we like numbers not colored bars.[/li][li]Option to change FOV.[/li][li]Aim/movement feels sluggish. Might just be a cause of the bad performance.[/li][li]AMD 4*** series cards experiences very ugly GRID like look everywhere.[/li][li]Game performance is terrible.[/li][li]Server browser performance is horrid, everything slows down when you search.[/li][li]Can’t join a server while it’s refreshing.[/li][li]Refresh button doesn’t work.[/li][/ul]
Can’t give any gameplay problems because as of right now I can’t really play.
My one suggestion that doesn’t already appear to have been addressed is with making Assault Rifles perform distinctively.
I’d like to see their range and base accuracy improved and stability reduced across the board. As it is, the only distinction between an AR and a SMG is that the AR has a smaller ammo load in exchange for the ability to carry an underslung GL.
A lobby system is key to getting a group of friends in a public game. Or perhaps some in game match settings for the host or via a team voting system, to change a game from public to private, restart a match, and close up a room that has reached the host capacity to maintain a smooth game. 1 player matchmaking is solid, but what about for large teams of 6-8 that want to play a public game?
I agree with most of the points and look forward to good fixes for the console versions.
free dedicated server + password + warm-up + press ready
slots available + name of the server + ip
not enough?
The Right Clas for the right time
You can change body type mid-game or abilitys. So if your team really needs an operative fro the objective and your a soldier witha heavy body type and all soldier ability. Your screwed!!. You alos have that multiply character thing, that would be great and all if you actual could switch to another character.
Here’s an example:
If you’re a heavy soldier with soldier abilitys, and you need more healers, your screwed beacuse your poorly equipet. BUT if you could change to one of your other characters that you made that was light and had healer abilitys, your all set.
The bottam line is you need to be able to switch characters mid-game.
You’re supposed to work yourself around that weakness with the tools you’ve been given. That’s one of the points of the game.
When bad map design meets “Deal with it”, fun doesn’t happen. I’m sorry, I loved ETQW, but this may well be the first game that drives me to grovel before steam for a refund.
If at all possible Could we just change our body type on the fly. I can totally understand if you just stand up and slap me in the face. Because for me I like to defend as heavy and attack as light and occasionall vice versa
Most of these are not game play mechanic related, but could really help improve the overall experience of the game.
When an objective changes based on the situation context, like when the NPC escort goes down, the objective should automatically change to the new objective if a player has that objective selected. I.E. if Nycheyev goes down and it switches from “escort” to “guard” it should just change automatically instead of cancelling altogether.
On that same note, I don’t even think that the objective should change names at all, except for the pertinent classes. Using the same example as above, everyone but medics should see “escort” while medics would get (and if “escort” was their selected objective, it would switch automatically to) “revive/heal.” The fact that it says “Guard” when you’re supposed to kill the escort on some missions is EXTREMELY confusing at times.
Still more on objectives and being completed, if an important mission is completed, but it’s not one that plays a cutscene, an audio clip and a hud element should inform everyone that the objective was completed. I see too many people, and have fallen victim of it myself, going to the WRONG objective (such as going to the safe when you already got the data key out) because nothing informed you that the objective was completed.
The perk… er… “‘Whatever’ of Perception,” would be a great perk to have… If it weren’t for the fact that without it, you can actually move around and take cover while doing an objective. Maybe make it so that if you don’t have the perk, you’re focused on starring at the objective, as well as being unable to move/crouch/lean.
Likewise, with Perception, it would be nice if it worked for everything, and not just repairing/building/planting. Disguising, comm hacking, hacking turrets, repairing turrets, etc all do not benefit from the skill, which doesn’t make a lick of sense.
A visual indication of what a spawn room is (or better yet, make them exit only) would be nice. I’m always ending up finding the enemy spawn and greeted by their death cannons. Yeah, not so much of a problem once you know the maps inside and out, but think of the new players later on.
Customizable crosshairs. 'Nuff said.
Server Browser Filters that aren’t stupid. Some of you may have seen my posts asking how to work them, well I found out, and it’s pretty dumb. When you open a filter, you’re presented with an input box. The input box only allows a single number to be entered, and no mathematical or programming syntax seems to do anything. So, if I put “12” into “players,” the browser filters out every game that has 13 or more players. For ping, this is ok; put in 150 and you get only servers that ping up to 150. But for player counts, this is dumb. Where’s the “not full & not empty” option?
Hitbeeps. The cvar is there, but it doesn’t do anything. At least not in MP. There are some commands, such as this and “static crosshairs” that only seem to work in Solo/Challenge mode. I remember hearing a quote from SD about this, saying, “We made sure that when you hit an enemy, you know it.” Having the XP counter and a red thing over your crosshair is ok… But I’d still like the hitbeeps, and so would many other people. If the option is present, and works in SP, just make it work in MP too.
As above, but for the static crosshairs. Make 'em work in MP.
An option to disable depth of field or a fix for it. I think it’s actually working in reverse. DOF in MOST games happens when you ADS. DOF in Brink DISAPPEARS when ADS, but is annoyingly present when not looking down the sights.
Something that tells you that you won’t get unlocks in Challenges if not in Solo mode. Unless this is a bug, of course.
If you’re playing as a medic and the bots get mauled down they will just wait for you to heal them which makes it kind of impossible because you really have zero time to heal all of them without getting slaughtered by the oppositions force since they’ll just lay there doing nothing until you die.
I preferably play shooters with invisible first person weapon model. Well, at least I did that in the Quake titles, ETQW, etc. :oppressor:
If you do that in Brink, the crosshair is not visible when using iron sights.
Would like to see the crosshair staying visible, when not using the weapon model. Or are there any serious reasons against this?
Gun recoil seems off to me, i cant burst fire at long ranges with assault rifles or even single shot, a few may go fine but randomly one burst will wave all around the screen, it makes bursting better, but not overwhelmingly improved over auto fire.
Some assault rifles seem to be straight upgrades in the stats listed when choosing weapons, or having more accuracy in exchange for pretty much lowered everything else.
AI, this is the largest concern by far, friendly AI seem to choose objectives at random, instead of prioritizing the primary and secondary, it seems that if there are 5 objectives, each is given a 20% chance of a bot choosing it, therefore only 20% will ever come to the primary objective which amounts to 1 or 2 bots ever coming to help me, ever tried to hack the missile controls on security day 6 on hard with only 1 friendly as backup? you never win. Enemy AI seems to have ESP, you peek around a corner and 5 bots looking the complete opposite direction whip around sight directly at you and mow you down to kill you with perfect accuracy in about a quarter second. the game was advertised as having realistic AI you could give them realistic reactions, im tired of turning a corner and colliding with an enemy only to have them powerslide me because they reacted in .00001 seconds or them insta targeting me if i look around a corner.
Again with Security day 6 hacking on hard, you are the ONLY one who ever attemps a hack, and the only way to stay alive is to get to cover while hacking which results in your PDA having a 3 bar connection so your objective completes about 1% every three seconds, while you die and have a 20 second minimum hike back to the missile in that time the enemy can take a 99% completed hack down 3 times over. Maybe a longer time putting the hack box back on, but your progress in the hack never goes down? that way it balances more.
About friendly AI being pathetic i realize that in most games friendly AI is pathetic (CoD anyone? Those guys kill about 1/100 enemies you encounter) but the AI here im seeing 4 friendy AI go against 1 enemy and usually the enemy will kill 3 of my guys before he dies, that doesnt seem in any case right. im all for enemy AI to be better than friendly AI, but not by such an incredible margin.
tl/dr
-
Tweak recoil a bit, but i love how this game actually has recoil that you cant snipe with an AR you actually need the sniper to do it.
-
Friendlies need to prioritize objectives better, either prioritize the primary objective or focus on the objective most of the team has selected in MP so the bots are more team players. Also friendly AI needs a competence boost.
-
Hacking needs to have an overhaul in its times and how the other team reverses the hacks.
Spawn is too quick and too near. Why should I play strategic when I can spawn and run back in a few seconds?!
I think they made the right choice by not going with the highly detailed character customization. Stuff like that gets hard on resources. I’d like to color things the way I want too, but that’s a similar issue. Don’t get me wrong though, I completely agree with your point. I would be much more happy with twice the selection of outfits, hair styles, etc…
I agree on the weapons, something should be done. But, I don’t know to what extent exactly. I’ve only used the assault rifles for the most part. I find there are only two that are really worth considering when you break it down, and one of them is so pathetically worthless it really shouldn’t be in the game. There’s no reason for any weapon choice to completely expire once you have another unlocked. So, perhaps the key is to offer specific and distinct strengths and drawbacks between the different weapons and offer upgrades that can either slightly enhance those strengths, moderately improve the weaknesses or add functionality.
I play as an operative quite frequently. It’s just my class, it’s always my class. I try to make the best of it and I feel I am a productive member of the team, but I totally hear what your saying. Disguise is effective 50% of the time, it’s good for a brief pass. It helps to look like your trying to dodge your own teammates and find cover. Still, the class needs some kind of buff like the other classes and a few more dirty tricks. Another idea I had was improving the firewall. Meaning, it takes an operative to place it, and it takes an operative to remove it. As a counterbalance to some degree, the engineer could be allowed to also “degrade” enemy controlled command centers that they cannot access due to the firewall or perhaps sabotage it for a small increment of time.
alright… add the warm-up system to all gametypes, the lobster should do more damage( about as much as a light rifle) and the heavy needs a bit more health because you are so big that people hit you easily and die just as fast as a medium unless you are taking cover, which is pointless because i was looking forward to being and intimidating bullet sponge.
Add 360 controller support for the PC version (even Battlefield: Bad Company 2 didn’t do this correctly) + multi screen support since I haven’t been able to run this game in fullscreen on my second monitor and I’m not talking about the split-screen mode I would just like to play this game as I would for the console version sitting back and relaxing with a game controller playing it on the second monitor. Most games don’t support the multi screen feature or the controller I would like to see this patched in, I don’t care if the patch is 5GB I just want to play the game the way I want. Hell right now I’d like to see the controller support patch.
I basically agree with your points.
I love customization but i allready see the borders for that.
What i can’t agree is the “useless operative”…my operative wants a word with you.
I mostly use light body type, run around the map, find a dead enemy and disguise as him, then i can proceed on going to hack objectives if given, sneak behind a line of enemies and after they are distracted with defending from my team, i just shoot them in the back or grenade it out with them.
Same goes with command posts…just too funny if you are disguised, walk over there and wait for a good time, only to capture it.
Further improvements in my opinion:
What i also think should be done is, that you can change your body type DURING a game…i like my lightweight when i have the room to use it, but sometimes you are in situations where i just can’t even leave the spawn area cause he dies too soon and has not enough room to use his agility.
Maybe make them depending on classes as a middle way.
Something that needs to be done in the future: Release DLCs. Maps can get repetetive over time and maybe give those people that want it some more classic game modes besides the objective ones.
TDM could work maybe.
DLCs could also solve the “too few weapons and customizations” feedbacks
