Constant Framerate Loss

(Dread_Stunlock) #1

Hi, I recently got Quake Wars: Enemy Territory and it looks really great by it’s gameplay.

Now my issue is that sometimes I get sudden framerate loss, but normally it plays the game very smoothly and I have placed everything on Low. i did not try MP yet, I am only playing against the PC.

These are my system specs. Website called Canyourunit scanned my system and showed that I can play the game even on recomennded settings but still, smooth gameplay for me is better than high graphics.

I play on Windows Vista so you know.

Please reply ASAP I really want to play the game :frowning: :armadillochase:

Probably overheating and downclocking the CPU/graphics card to cool down

(Dread_Stunlock) #3

So what can I do?

(light_sh4v0r) #4

Quite possible that because of the hot weather (here in Holland anyways) your PC slows down to prevent overheating. You could try to open up your PC and clean it of dust. Be careful though, computers don’t like static electricity

Laptops do tend to get hot and their gfx cards aren’t good to begin with…

(Dread_Stunlock) #6

 But eehh…It’s not that hot in UK right now it’s windy and not hot at all. Also I have ATI not GFX.

Also checking from Xfire tops of what I get is 40 FPS but that still smooth, and it frequently drops to 4-8 fps… and that where the FPS drops happen. :"(

Edit: Sorry I little bit lied about the FPS…

(Dread_Stunlock) #7

Okay, It’s definately not the heat, because I switched off my Laptop and it went cold…I tried to play again…still same junk :frowning: any other ideas?

I’ve been sitting here for five minutes now, trying to think of a reply to this statement.

Graphics drivers are obviously not working. Try older/newer ones and see how that works.

(AnthonyDa) #10

Well, I assume he had 0fps once its PC shut down.

(Nail) #11

he shut off his lappy and let it cool down, then he tried game and still had same prob, it could be his power performance settings

Now my issue is that sometimes I get sudden framerate loss, but normally it plays the game very smoothly and I have placed everything on Low.

I would like to tell you the reason of why it runs that laggy, but i will mostly be banned then xD

But i am going to give you a clue…

“when too much lights incide on the same surface, the engine needs to process more information because of per-pixel lighting”. So the problem in fact is mostly because of the map anyway.

deferred shading probably will improve the performance.

If you have power modes, make sure you set it to the highest performance when playing. Also make sure you are plugged into an outlet. My laptop GPU gets downclocked when in lower power settings and when it runs off the battery.

I am still getting the constant FPS loss, even with shadows and everything off and everything on minimal :frowning:
Any more suggestions? Thanks to all btw you have been helpful

(Sugar_addict) #15

You might want to try turning off the unnecessary programs that run in the background.
It is also a good idea to update your drivers.

get a new pc… and try again…

2ghz processor lol…

(Nail) #17

did you notice it’s a dual core ? 2 ghz is fine

fuzzel is too rich to understand

There can be a lot of things,

  1. when does this happen? try to see if this happens around the same time of the day or night you play
  2. vista sucks so under system set it for best performance
  3. what background services do you have running?
  4. stop all p2p when playing
  5. try game booster and see if that helps
  6. hows your autoexec configured?
    good luck

is there any pattern to when the problem happens? like after playing 2 maps or something? or does it happen immediately on loading the game?
