Console, do we get freedom or do we follow Activision?

(Paul) #1

Well, easy question, I couldn’t find it directly so I thought let ask it…

Do we get the freedom to have a console ( and be able to fast type /quit so you dont have to go through all the menu’s like mw2 ) or will it follow the bad example off modern warfare 2?

CHeers, :riflenade:

Both SD and Bethesda’s games are known to have extensive console features.

So:

I’d bet!

(darthmob) #3

Of course we’ll be able to access the console. Anything else would be stupid.
()

(signofzeta) #4

there is no game that is on any id tech engine, except id tech 1, that can’t access the console. Wait I lie. Call of Duty 1 is on id tech 3, and I couldn’t figure out how to activate the console. Even so, if it isn’t possible to activate the console, there is usually a different way to open it up.

(BeyondSpectrality) #5

You also have to remember that Infinity Ward (or the guys that just got fired) didn’t even want to make Call of Duty MW2 for the PC so that.s why that game was such a huge disappointment.

(H0RSE) #6

talk about biting the hand that feeds…Didn’t the game get its start and build up its fanbase on PC?

(Voxie) #7

Source, pretty please?

(Paul) #8

Also for me please, I’m really curious if this is true. I know they just ported a fantastic game to the pc and left even marks in! You saw some xbox signs on the pc when you played - it’s fixed now but it was really embarrassing. A side from that, every console should get at least the same ‘attention’ not a stupid port and sell it!

(timestart) #9

You had to set a few obscurely-named cvars on the command line to enable it, but it was there in Call of Duty.

(BeyondSpectrality) #10

I spoke too literally…I apologize I was meaning that they’d rather make it like the console version and just port it over than actually implement PC features…No lean (a staple of the franchise), no dedicated servers, and the wondrous XBox 360 notes in the programming/code of the game. Kinda like Left 4 Dead…Lastly the optimization features in CoD: MW2 are horrid…

SD are not IW. I think they as an independent studio need to look at developing on multiple platforms but they’ve never ignored that each platform has its strengths and weaknesses. Likewise that each platform’s demographic is not the same.

Yes IW were successful despite blanding down to the lowest common denominator but SD are smarter and classier than using that cheap bag of tricks to be successful.

Afaik console version = PC version

(Voxie) #13

I was under the impression that the reason the PC version was so gimped was because of Activision. In light of the recent spectacle with all IW’s senior talent jumping ship this seems even more likely. Will be very interesting to see if Respawn Entertainment makes a decent shooter for the PC within a few years.

(Paul) #14

Possibly, it will drag all the people over and develop Coll of Dotty 1

You will find xbox 360 notes in both config and code because its a gfw game (GAMES FOR WINDOWS NOT GAMES FOR WINDOWS LIVE!!!)
I think part of the “quality guarantee” is that it supports the 360 pad… or game pads in general. which means you will get notes related to the 360 in both config and code.
So in that respect you can all go cry port now if you want.

The official requirements.

"1.4 Support the Xbox 360 Common Controller for Windows [Conditional Requirement]
Requirement

Games that support gamepad controllers must support the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows using the XInput API. If DirectInput peripherals are also supported, then DirectInput can also be used. However, XInput must be the default API if an Xbox 360 compatible device is used.

All references to common controller triggers and buttons must use the Xbox 360 names. See the Xbox 360 Common Controller for Windows Terminology list for details.

Controller vibration must be turned off when the game is in a paused or suspended state.

Mouse/keyboard control cannot be fully disabled at any time. At a minimum, an option to return to game menus must be available. "

every game that has a GFW title that has a 360 version is a console port. Let me know if you find any GFW titles also on the 360, that isn’t a console port, that is, the GFW game is a true PC game.

If there isn’t a GFW game that isn’t a blatent port of a 360 game, then I can be safe to say that GFW is a bunch bull sacks. That was why I steer clear of GFW games. Except Wolfenstein, because I was desperate. Had to buy it to complete collection.

(darthmob) #18

Hah! Sacred 2 is a real PC game with GFW badge that has later on been ported to consoles. Hah again because it crushes the tiny shred of doubt I had that your statement may actually be reasonable.

It scares me though that it seems to be the only game in the quite big list of games where it applies. :frowning:
