Connection tweaking

(z|Gandalf) #1

Hi,
Have you change your connection settings, maxpacket, snaps, timenudge… ?
Some people said that you can have smooth playing when you put a maxpacket > 30

cl_timenudge -50
cl_maxpackets 100
snaps 20
rate 13000

Depends on what connection you have, but for Broadband:-

cl_timenudge 0 // shouldn’t be lower than -20 even if you’re on dial-up and should be zero anyway if you play on servers with anti-lag enabled.

cl_maxpackets 60 // anything from 60 - 100 for Broadband, but start at 60 and work up.

rate 25000 // can be as low as 13000 - 15000 but no point unless you’re on dial-up (in which case 7000 - 10000 might be better anyway).

snaps 40 // if on dial-up try 20 instead.

Thx for your replies k1ll3r & Kendle

gandalf, gandalf from old jolt (01) tram only?

Yes, i think that was me…
Great map Tram only for all classes, but a little bit hard for allies

for the settings, i’ve tried :
cl_timenudge 0
cl_maxpackets 100
snaps 40
rate 15000

My connection is DSL

rate 25000 // can be as low as 13000 - 15000

25000, hum… Kendle, can you tell me what does this setting ?

I’ve also seen other settings like no_udp, no_ipx… do you know if there is a good tutorial somewhere or a list of important settings ?

rate

The server assigns an amount of bandwidth for each client with a server-side setting called sv_rate. Whatever this value is your client-side setting (called simply rate) should be greater than or equal to. Setting your rate higher than the server does no harm (assuming you’ve got a good connection) as you won’t get any more than the server is giving you anyway, so it’s recommended to set it to the highest allowable value. If you set it lower than the server is giving you (when your connection could handle more) you’re not getting full benefit. The only circumstances in which you should set it lower are when your connection can’t handle it, i.e. you’re on dial-up, or ISDN maybe.

The highest allowable value, as determined by PunkBuster, is 25000. PunkBuster checks this setting to ensure it is within a certain range because it can be abused with scripts to cause artificial lag and make you harder to hit.

net_noipx

This tells ET whether to disable the IPX protocol (as used on Netware LANs). Unless you’re playing on a LAN that uses Netware it should be disabled so set it to 1.

net_noudp

This tells ET whether to disable the UDP protocol. As ET uses this protocol it shouldn’t be disabled so set it to 0.
