Configure XP levels?

I’ve heard that this can’t be done, but surely, such a simple few cvars to implement for the developers would’ve been done…

Server admins need the ability to set the number of points needed before people achieve the various levels of XP.

This way, when configuring a stopwatch ladder or competition, the server admin can set up something like:

  • It takes 1 point to achieve level 1
  • It takes 2 points to achieve level 2
  • It takes 3000 points to achieve level 3 or 4

That way, effectively you’re starting everyone on level 2 and they basically won’t get any higher.

This way, you have the advantages of level 2 (faster reloads, extra clip, higher accuracy, etc), but you don’t have to go through 15 minutes of the map to get it.

A lot of people complaining about SW don’t like the fact that the map may be over and some people might still be on level 0 or level 1, and let’s face it, the game is much more fun to play on the higher experience levels.

So if we could start everyone off on level 2 and not let them get any higher, then the playing field is still even and you reward aim and strats, as it should be.

Does anyone know if it can be done, or if it’s planned for any upcoming patch?

Thanks

Ive allready posted a similar post, not getting any decent answer yet, maybe with this post we will be luckier.

quote from my other post with reasons why XP levels should be configurable/lockable

"Thing is a rtcw community is finding out how to run proper et matches.

1 campaign only = not really fair
1 campaign running twice with switching of teams = to time consuming

We can play SW rounds but with the XP resetting itself after 1 SW round, we wont really get far with skills.

Therefore, being able to locking XP to one value for all players would be just what we need

I dunno… I just figure if you earn it you earn it. Unless you’re exploiting. Everyone has the same chance to get to whatever level. In other words, I think it’s fine/fair just the way it is. Then again, I don’t really play on SW servers. So maybe my post is a little bit irrelevent.

:blah:

I’ve been arguing the case for this since E.T. test came out, and have even PM’ed Locki about it (with no response). I also got into a flame war on Bani’s forum with some Clan noob about it.

Xp has to either be disabled or locked at an un-changeable level for Clan games, simple as that. Aim, strats and teamplay is what Clan games are all about. Rewarding individual players, even the concept of individual players scoring points, is meaningless in a true team game.

I’d have though a couple of server-side cvars to give admins the option of setting the points is all that’s required. Then the noobs who play on public servers and are deluded enough to think XP’s are all that the game is about can have their way, whilst the serious Clan players can have fair competitive games where aim, strats and teamwork are the deciding factor in which team wins the game. That way everyone is happy.

I’m actually fine with SW as is, with XP resetting at the end of each round (A or B). This way we get the advantage of the experience system, which I like overall, without the grossness of the majority of peopel running around with L3 or L4, which I think is silly.
