Config

I spent about 2 hours on my original ET config, loads of toggles and such. then i hit delete by mistake…and then i emptied the recycle bin by mistake
So i just spent the good part of an hour making some special binds to do commands like lay dynamight. So here they are

// This bind plants dynamight in one press. It selects dynamight, throws it, arms it, and switches back to primary weapon. Also Says Destroy Construction.
bind del vstr “dynaplant”
set dynaplant “weaponbank 6; wait 40; +attack; wait 5; -attack; wait 30; +attack; wait 300; -attack; weaponbank 3; voiceteamchat destroyconstruction”

// This bind plants a mine in one press. It selects dynamight, throws it, arms it, and switches back to primary weapon. Also says Deploy Land Mines.
bind ins vstr “mineplant”
set mineplant “weaponbank 7; wait 40; +attack; wait 5; -attack; wait 20; +attack; wait 150; -attack; weaponbank 3; voiceteamchat ftdeploylandmines”

// This bind is a lazy engineers dream. Press the key once, it pulls out pliers and starts to build, on a second press it stops building and switches back to primary weapon. Also says Im Constructing.
bind home vstr “lazybuildtog”
set lazybuildtog vstr “lazybuildon”
set lazybuildon “weaponbank 5; wait 10; +attack; set lazybuildtog vstr lazybuildoff; voiceteamchat ConstructionCommencing”
set lazybuildoff “-attack; weaponbank 3; set lazybuildtog vstr lazybuildon”

// This bind is a quick satchel bind. On the first press it switchs to satchel charge, throws it and switches back to primary weapon. Also says Fire In The Hole.
// On second press it switches to the satchel remote and detonates the charge and switches back to primary weapon
bind end vstr “satcheltog”
set satcheltog vstr “satchelon”
set satchelon “weaponbank 6; wait 25; +attack; wait 20; -attack; wait 20; weaponbank 3; set satcheltog vstr satcheloff; voiceteamchat fireinthehole”
set satcheloff “weaponbank 6; wait 25; +attack; wait 20; -attack; wait 75; weaponbank 3; set satcheltog vstr satchelon”

// This bind is for Field Ops. On pressing it, it will switch to ammo box, lay 4 ammo boxes, then switch back to primary weapon. Also says Resupply The Squad.
bind pgup vstr “ammo”
set ammo “weaponbank 6; wait 25; +attack; wait 225; -attack; weaponbank 3; voiceteamchat ftresupplysquad”

// This bind is for Medics. On pressing it, it will switch to health packs, lay 4 packs, then switch back to primary weapon. Also says Heal The Squad
bind pgdn vstr “health”
set health “weaponbank 6; wait 25; +attack; wait 225; -attack; weaponbank 3; voiceteamchat fthealsquad”

Rather alot there :o Some of them are just for the sake of it. most of the time they wont be used. but they can be useful at some point.

Learning by doing.
What (dead) academic is famous for that educational quote, by the way?

And I just replied by mistake.

Doen’t the vsays sound like orders rather than information? If I hear e.g. fthealsquad I will assume someone is pissed that the medics are not doing their job, or start looking for wounded teammates if I’m a medic myself. :stuck_out_tongue:

As a one-time hard-core scripter I hate to rain on someone’s parade, but some of those scripts are awful. I’d strongly advise anyone thinking of using them NOT to do so.

Take this one:-

bind del vstr “dynaplant”
set dynaplant “weaponbank 6; wait 40; +attack; wait 5; -attack; wait 30; +attack; wait 300; -attack; weaponbank 3; voiceteamchat destroyconstruction”

I cap my frame-rate at 43. This script would take nearly 9 seconds to execute, for me. That’s 9 seconds in which I would be immobile and unable to defend myself. Can you say “dead meat”? And I’d have to be sure I had enough charge to plant or else I’d be immobile and vunerable for 9 seconds for no reason.

This one is possibly even worse:-

bind pgdn vstr “health”
set health “weaponbank 6; wait 25; +attack; wait 225; -attack; weaponbank 3; voiceteamchat fthealsquad”

Not only would this one put me out of action for nearly 6 seconds, but I can’t think of many situations in which I’d want to dish out 4 packs at the same time anyway. If a player needs more than 2 packs, TK/revive.

Even at 76 FPS these scripts take too long to complete. You might as well stick a sign over your head saying “free kill here” if you’re going to use scripts like these. It’s far more flexible to do these things manually and you’ll stay alive longer (and be more use to your team) into the bargain.

Sorry bandit5K, I do appreciate the effort you put into making these scripts (and presumably testing them), and you do say you did most of them just for the sake of it and wouldn’t use them very often, but as a former hard-core scripter I’d always advise people nowadays to do things the “proper” way, cos scripting is simply no substitute for practise.

As usual… what Kendle says… also:

Wrong word… And its Dynamite?

(BondyBoy007) #10

Or is he implying that you “might” still be alive after selecting this bind?

I think there’s some points where you need to draw the line at scripting. It borders on laziness tbh .No offence to your work, it’s great you made these scripts, but cmon, you want to leave some stuff for yourself to do. And like kendle, i dont like to be tied up doing something and have no control until the script has ended. I even switched from weapon toggles to single binds to save on time. If i’m planting a dyno, i like to throw it down and have a look around. If someone starts shooting me, i like to be able to stop mid-arm, shoot away at them then resume my work. How’s about maybe doing something the ole fashioned manual way

That would be using common sense now along with some thinking/actual learning to play now wouldnt it… :>
