They’ve made…

The MP component of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, which any PC gamer should be at least peripherally aware of. Saw a console port to PS2 and Xbox, two years later.
That was Nerve Software, SD only did 3 Maps for the later GOTY Pack.

PS: RtCW for Xbox amd PS2 where btw. no simple 1-to-1 ports.

The MP component of Doom 3, which again any PC gamer should be aware of even if they haven’t played it. Saw a console port to the Xbox nearly a year later.

Afaik they only did the maps.

shrug I didn’t want to be accused of leaving something out.

Has anyone noticed that the game’s graphics seem to have deteriorated? Maybe i am just an idiot but look at these videos and tell me what you think.

Don’t these videos look better than the ones we are seeing now?

(Linsolv) #46

Have you ever taped a TV? It’s not very good. Even if you’re taping in 1080 and it’s being shown in 1080, video quality becomes garbage.

EDIT: That’s why the footage you’re seeing, which is mostly “pirated” footage from PAX, is so bad.

The more recent footage that wasn’t from PAX is 90% cinematics.

The latest class vid looks fine. As does the choir of guns vid.
The freedom of movement vid which you linked, doesnt look that great.

(JeP) #48

Linsolv : cinematics ? Choir of guns didn’t show any… ?

(Linsolv) #49

If it’s not gameplay video, then it’s cinematics, even if they use the real engine for it. And the fact is, there were only a few shots of actual gameplay footage, and then without any HUD. Far as I’m concerned, it’s nowhere near gameplay footage.
My main concerns that many console ports mess up on:

[ol]
[li]Mouse movement. There should be NO mouse acceleration, mouse smoothing, deadzone, negative mouse accel, or anything else ruins the movement. It needs to be raw mouse input, nothing getting in the way of the mouse and the game.
[/li]
[li]FOV. The FOV should be adjustable to at least 90 degrees horizontal. And if it’s not adjustable, make the default FOV 90.
[/li]
[li]Hold crouch and Toggle crouch. Hold ADS and Toggle ADS. We need the option to choose between toggle and hold.
[/li]
[li]An interface that works well with a mouse and keyboard and uses it’s advantages.
[/li]
[li]A server browser that can filter ping, maps, gametype, server name, etc…
[/li][/ol]
my signature here

Also, I’d like to add, everything “PC-specific” (like mouse movement, FOV90 or whatever) should be active BY DEFAULT!

It’s no fun playing against people who may only be worse because they may not know about an option. Like running against someone in a wheelchair, even if you win, where’s the fun in that?
(this is why i play ETQW without the quick weapon change activated)

On the topic of “why this will not be a consolitis case”:
I’ve heard all these “arguments” from other games cough Crysis 2 cough, and well what happened…
Of course SD ist still way above everyone else on my trust scale; but there is proof, and there is hope, and there’s a difference between those two:wink: In other words, those concerns are legitimate.

Linsolv : ok, I was understanding precalc by “cinematics”, but I get it now. I can’t say I don’t agree, I would really appreciate a good walkthrough like they released before !

(Cankor) #52

With SD I seriously doubt there will be any issues here but I certainly understand the concerns.

For instance DICE was a PC developer previously as well and BC2 is clearly a console port. So far we have seen no screens showing a Mouse/KB UI and no gameplay (that we know of) using mouse/KB. By their own admission they are doing the PC controls last because they don’t have to submit them to MS and Sony for verification, so they have longer to port them over, er, I mean develop and debug them

(Linsolv) #53

In all honesty, why does it really matter what the PC controls are? YOU CAN REBIND THEM. In fact, I’d go so far as to say every PC gamer I’ve ever met checks most of the controls and changes them before they start playing, unless they’re too impatient in which case they end up changing them at a later date.

Although… you can also rebind the console controls now. So that’s cool.

Many ported console games suffer from stuff like mouse acceleration, mouse smoothing, deadzone and negative mouse accel. That totally ruins controls on the PC. Thats why it matters.

(JeP) #55

Yeap, this time it’s not a thread about “default options”

Although BC2 was a good console port, luckily Battlefield 3 will not be a console port.

[ul]
[li]PC is the lead platform[/li][li]Primarily developed for DX11[/li][li]Runs in 64-bit[/li][li]64 players PC (24 consoles)[/li][li]No waisted resources on developing for XP or DX9[/li][li]All gameplay shown so far has been PC only[/li][/ul]

It’s going to be great!
