They’re in the final stages of testing. I think it’s safe to say that the servers should be up and running within 48 hours. Well enough in time for Brink for those 24 of us that will be playing on the PS3.
Time to rejoice! ha.

What the PSN servers are STILL down? Did they find the little brat punk who did it yet? How long have they been down now, 2 weeks? :x
meh i wasnt really worried, i was gonna play through solo at first anyway, course i kind of planned on co-oping with the friend and fellow forum goer RealIrony, so id prefer they be up
About 2 weeks. And they haven’t pinpointed who did it yet. Fingers are pointing towards Anonymous even though they firmly deny it, there was a file left on the Sony servers saying “Anonymous: We Are Legion”. Now, it may have been Anonymous, or it may be someone framing Anonymous as a cover.
Or someone in Anonymous did it and now that the FBI is involved, and many customers/hackers alike are mad about it, they want to distance themselves from the situation.
My bets are, and this may sound bad (keep in mind that I am a big Sony fan), that Sony is keeping things down just to try to punish Anonymous for the attack. By keeping the servers down this long, and pointing fingers at Anonymous, the general community will hate Anon for attacking Sony at all, and Sony will eventually draw sympathy and have all this nice time to restructure their system. In the end, Sony still wins.
And to those that say “Screw Sony! They aren’t doing anything for the consumer!?!!”, well, it’s not entirely true. They announced yesterday they’re working with an identity theft firm to give every customer that signs up for it 12 months of free identity theft protection. Along with the 30 days PS+, and some other unnamed software, I’m not terribly upset about all this. Good reason for me to spend time on this forum and prepare for my new favorite game.
good luck with the firmware update when you finally log in, methinks it’ll be a doozy
Hahah. True true Nail. Luckily, my PS3 is set to check for updates everyday at 4 am, so hopefully it happens overnight and I’ll be ready to play the next day.
Hopefully.
As bad as the PSN hack was, I’d rather have the ‘open’ PSN network over a locked down Live.
Open indeed
i would be more concerned about someone stealing my personal info, not so much about when it’s back up, but that’s just me.

No matter how big that firmware update is, I doubt it is as bad as deleting and reinstalling all BC2 patches (around 2 hours). Firmware updates are usually fast for me anyway and at least the download has a percentage and ETA unlike Sony (who is almost done =D).
I’m defiinitely more on the concerned side, first it was may 2, then may 4, then may 5. So I’m not ready to believe it’ll be up in two days or so, hope it is tho.
I’m not looking forward to the first day or so of it being back up, me thinks that’ll it will be glitchy and laggy to start
My hopes are sky high. I haven’t been able to even touch Portal 2’s co-op. The singleplayer was amazing!
I ordered Portal 2 as well, really looking forward to it. I bet it works fine day 1, knowing Sony, they’re going to want to make a good impression when people get back. The only thing that may be sub-par would be downloading the inevitable update when everyone else is too. Probably going to be a bit slow.
They have supposedly been working round the clock for almost three weeks now and PSN still isn’t up? I don’t buy it. As a gamer with all the next gen( or current gen) consoles I for one and thankful for a paid service like XBL were I can count on a team on engineers truly devoted to keeping the live services up and running constantly
I also read the other day that apparently they traced the source of a route one of the hackers took and they claim that it was sourced to Malaysia. So thats interesting.
I have heard countless people saying XBL is better, or that they traded in PS3 for Xbox or this or that. Frankly I’m sure no one cares. I’m very happy for you that you play XBL, I have an Xbox as well as a PS3 (and a PC for that matter). We’re like twins, you and I. That being said, I am excited to say that a thread that has PSN in the title has evoked XBL owners to come and try to convert or spread the Xbox gospel. I swear, if the internet was a neighborhood, you kids would be walking around in white shirts, black ties, and backpacks handing out pamphlets on the good word of Xbox.
But I do defend your right to an opinion either way. It would just be awesome if I, as a PS3 owner didn’t have to accidentally read it every day in some form or another.
Anyway, my rant is over, and I apologize good sirs if I was a little long winded. I don’t care about the PSN outtage or the hack, they didnt have any of my credit info on there, and if they did. I’m sure they want the identity of a increasingly broke soon to be Grad student. I’m not worried about if it’ll be up by May10th either, if its not. My ass will be all over Brink’s off-line version.
Please don’t turn this into a Sony Sucks, Xbox Rules thing.
I’m not sure what the status of PSN is. I hope it is up by the time Brink comes out. It could impact Brink’s sales if it isn’t, which would stink for everyone.
XBL costs, PSN doesn’t, nuff said
I think it already affected Brink preorders, that, and the need for an extra beta
Sure, whatever. The Xbox is getting a Day One patch, that means it is terrible!
(kidding)
console wars are silly and stupid
as I’m getting it on Xbox first, it means I have to put the kid’s box online, if you need Gold to get the update, it ain’t gonna happen, so no patch
